  • Wonderful condo, great location!

"This was our first visit to Hawaii and we stayed at this beautiful condo while in Maui. Honua Kai is in a perfect location—close to Lahaina and Napili Bay. This condo in particular was perfect for us and our teenage daughter. You can see the pool, Dukes, and the ocean from the lanai. We really enjoyed being in the inner courtyard because we could see the torches in the evening. The condo is wonderfully appointed. We appreciated the included beach chairs, beach towels, umbrella, and cooler. Boogie boards and beach toys are available for families with younger kids. The kitchen has everything you need for meal preparation. You'll find nice pots & pans, utensils, grilling tools, and even a salad spinner! We appreciated that there were spices and condiments available. The beds and linens were very comfortable. The condo was quiet. We never heard neighbors or noise from the pool area when the nana doors were closed, which wasn't often. Even when open, the condo was pleasantly quiet. Some tips: rent snorkel gear from The Snorkel Store (right on the way), make reservations for dinner at Dukes for sunset and get an outside table, drive the road to Hana, see the sunrise at Haleakala, get a hamburger at Cool Cat Cafe, go to the Old Lahaina Luau and buy your tickets early. The Times market is close, but our observation was that the Safeway in Lahaina is less expensive and has better produce. Mark and Barbara were wonderful to deal with and Michelle was also wonderful. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this condo and would love to come back."

  • Fantastic Vacation!

"We loved Cape San Blas and Twilight! What a house! Very, very well stocked! More than we expected. Had everything we needed and more!!! Very spacious and comfortable! Love that there was a lot of living room seating for everyone to spread out! We had so much fun in the gulf (which was sooo close to house), had bonfires, collected shells, snorkled, scalloped, took a sunset cruise, ate, shopped, saw dolphins swimming everyday, sting rays, beautiful birds, and fell in ocean fully clothed....Lol. Locals were very friendly! Tours were great! Loved Cone Heads, Scallop Cove, and donuts at Trading Post! Homeowners thought of everything! There were games, books, toys, beach accessories, tons of information of were to visit and what to see! We had better weather than forecasted! Only rained a hour-ish one mid morning. We all watched a movie and played Bingo! We had a 4 year old, 10 year old, and 6 adults. Had plenty of room! Tv's and DVD players in every room! So nice that every bedroom had their own bathroom! We loved the decor! We did not want to leave! I saw every sunrise, and sunset! Would love to stay here again. My only suggestion would be to have a free standing base or hole drilled in picnic table for an umbrella for a little shade on deck. Mind you, it never stopped us from sitting out there! I would recommend this house to anyone. Thanks!"

  • Very comfortable house in quiet Falcon Cove

"We really enjoyed our week here relaxing, reading, walking on the beach, and hiking in Oswald Forest. It is a short walk to the beach access, plus some water views from many windows or up on the cocktail deck. The deck between the kitchen and garage was perfect for afternoon meals as it was sheltered from the wind. The kitchen is well equipped. The couches and beds were comfortable. If you want night life or bustle don't come here. If you get tired of relaxing, the location in between Manzanita and Cannon Beach makes it easy to go shopping or out to lunch or dinner."

Portugal Travel Tips

Best Time of Year to Visit Portugal Vacation Rentals

Portugal enjoys some of Europe's warmest weather. The climate is typically Mediterranean with cool, wet winters and warm, dry summers. Because of its extensive coastline and many beautiful beaches, the favorite season to visit Portugal is summer. The weather starts to warm from early May and stays sunny until late in September. The peak travel season occurs during the months of June and July.

Stylish Portugal Holiday Rentals

Portugal is known for its vibrant and colorful lifestyle. Many of the vacation homes are apartments located in cities or seaside towns. Thin walls keep the homes cool in the summer heat and windows take in the beautiful coastal views. Many have beautiful gardens or overlook cobbled streets. As you open your window in the morning, you may get to smell the fresh coffee aromas brewing at the corner coffee shop.

Top Portugal Travel Destinations

Portugal's most popular summer destination is in the Algarve area. This region extends along the southern Atlantic coast of Portugal. It is known for its warm weather and vibrant holiday atmosphere. The main towns are Faro, Lagos and Tavira but the coastline is dotted with numerous small and welcoming fishing villages and towns. Many Europeans spend their summer vacations here lazing on the beaches and enjoying the warm Mediterranean weather.

Lisbon is the cultural and historical center of Portugal. It is a vibrant city that is a wonderful blend of old and new. There are several interesting museums that showcase the nation's history. On the city outskirts are several ancient castles and palace ruins from which you can enjoy great views over the city. Dining out in Portugal is a celebration in itself. Traditional dishes include fish and are often quite spicy. Portuguese food is known for its Peri Peri flavor which has a hot and spicy chili taste.

The northern part of Portugal is more rural. Major towns and cities in this region include Oporto and Braga. Oporto is famous as being the origin region for the strong fortified wine known as port. If that is to your taste, you can visit some of the local wineries and see the age-old methods of how port is produced. You may also get to sample a few different varieties.

Getting to Portugal

Portugal is located in the far southwestern part of Europe. It's only neighbor is Spain which surrounds the country to the north and east. Portugal also has two foreign island territories located in the Atlantic, namely the Azores and the Canary Islands. The main travel hub into Portugal is the capital city of Lisbon. The Portela International Airport is located just outside of Lisbon and linked to the city by rail and bus routes. The airport serves as a major travel hub for the rest of the country as well as the Azores and Canary Islands. There are regularly scheduled flights to Lisbon from most major cities in Europe. Several low-cost airlines operate flights from London to Lisbon as well as to Faro on the Algarve coast.

If you are traveling from North America, it may be worth your while to look into these alternative flight routings to find the best possible travel deal. The second major airport is in the city of Oporto. For travelers visiting this famous wine region, this will be the best airport to fly into. Once in Portugal, it is relatively easy to get around. There is an extensive road and rail network linking the various towns and cities. If you plan to hire a car, be aware that traffic in the major metropolitan areas can be quite chaotic. Outside of these areas, you can relax a little and enjoy the scenery.
