Overview of Russia Vacation Rentals
Visitors to Russia Vacation Rentals
For many years, Russia was closed off to international travelers. When visitors were granted visas, their travel was usually restricted to business travel and organized guided tours. In recent decades, changes in the Russian government have led to the relaxation of travel policies. While travel in Russia is not as easy as in other parts of the world, it is a destination that has become far more accessible to international travelers. Russia is a destination for culture and history enthusiasts. People who will appreciate the country's attractions are those who have read up on the nation's turbulent history and are familiar with the different political figures and government policies. Russia encompasses a vast and varying landscape. There are many natural attractions for those interested in exploring.
Getting to Your Russia Lodging Destination
The main air hub into Russia is Moscow which is served by three international airports. The largest and busiest of these is Domodedovo International Airport, located 23 miles southeast of Moscow's city center. It is also the country's most modern airport and the only one capable of hosting the larger jumbo jets. The majority of international carriers use this airport to transport passengers to Moscow. Domodedovo International Airport has regular commercial flight connections with almost all continents, including Australia and Africa. For some long-haul destinations, travelers may need to route via major cities in Europe or the Far East, and from there get an onward connection to Moscow. The other two airports near Moscow are the older Sheremetyevo International Airport, located 18 miles northwest of the city and Vnukovo International Airport, located 17 miles southwest of Moscow. These two airports serve primarily domestic and regional destinations in Asia.
Top Russia Travel Attractions
In Moscow, there are a number of tourist sites that every visitor should see. The most famous is the Red Square. Here you can visit the State History Museum and view the beautiful St. Basil's Cathedral. It is also where the mausoleum of Lenin is located. Gorky Park is a famous amusement park in Moscow. In the summertime, you can enjoy rides and meander around the pond at the park's center. In the wintertime, when the pond freezes over, it becomes a popular ice skating rink. If you want to experience a taste of local Moscow life, take a stroll down Arbat Street. It is the city's busiest pedestrian street and characterized by shops, restaurants and bars. It is also a great place to buy crafts, art and souvenirs.
The Peter and Paul Fortress is linked to the Romanov's and serves as the final resting place of the Romanov Czars. St. Petersburg is home to the Hermitage Museum. The museum has one of the most impressive art collections in the world, including original paintings by Michelangelo, Rembrandt and Da Vinci. For anyone who has a military interest, you must visit the State Armory. This impressive museum houses treasures and military artifacts dating back to medieval times. The exhibits include priceless gold and silver jewelry as well as various helmets and armor from the different centuries and empires.
Best Time of Year to Visit Russia
Russia has a cold continental climate with extreme freezing temperatures in winter and a short and mild summer. Unless you don't mind the icy weather, it is recommended to travel during the warmer summer months of June, July and August. This is also the peak travel season in Russia so it is advisable to make your travel plans well in advance and have some sort of structure to your tour itinerary.
