"We spent a 5 days in Jose'simmaculate, very comfortable apartment. The apartment is exactly as described and pictured. We endorse all the positive comments made by other reviewers. Everything you need is provided in the apartment. The location was ideal for us. It is convenient for visiting Barcelona's many attractions on foot or by metro as well as being a quiet haven for sleeping at night. Close at hand are metro stops, grocery and other shopping and bars and cafes. Barcelona is a standout city to visit. We have been twice and love it to bits. The other standout for us this time was Jose. He is the best host i have had for many times.. Jose was always prompt with replies and very helpful before we booked and arrived. All the information you need about the apartment and about Barcelona is available in the apartmen. Jose met us at the apartment when we arrived, explained everything about the apartment including how to use the appliances (always helpful!), showed us where amenities like the supermarkets were and gave us local restaurant recommendations. (Sadly one restaurant just across the road that Jose told us was recommended by some of her other tenants (Portoles) was always full when we tried to eat there - so we suggest if they take bookings be sure to book!) Jose marked tourist attractions on a map and explained exactly how to get there. Jose was just a call, text or email away if there were any problems during our stay (there weren't) and booked us a taxi for our departure. He came to make sure it arrived on time and to bid us safe travels even though it was only 7am when we left. A terrific apartment, great location, lovely people. Highly recommended.I"

  • Excellent!

"Excellent all around! The apartment looked even better in person than it did in the pictures. My wife and I are walkers and we walked all over the city from this apartment - the location is great! If walking is not your thing there is a metro station very close (Sant Antoni). There is an awesome gourmet grocery store a few doors down that we really enjoyed (they have excellent grab and go salads, etc.). Before booking I noticed a few reviews discussing issues with burglaries - do NOT let this deter you from booking this beautiful apartment. First off, the neighbourhood is very safe, so no concern there. Secondly, the owner has installed a high security lock (magnetic), in addition to the other heavy duty locks. I laughed when I saw the locks as I couldn't imagine anyone ever getting into this apartment unless they left the door unlocked. Very secure! Lastly, it is true that the easiest way to get to the apartment is Euro Bus. However, for the cost of a round-trip bus pass you can get the T10 transport ticket. This ticket is good for 10 metro rides and you can share the ticket. It is also good for the Renfe train that you can take to/from the airport (Terminal 2 only). You can take the train to Passeig de Gracia and then take the metro from Passeig de Gracia towards Parallel. Get off at Sant Antoni and you have a short 1 block walk to the apartment. The advantage of doing this is that you still have 8 metro rides to use (Renfe to Passeig de Gracia is 1 ride, Metro to Sant Antoni is 1 ride)."

Madrid Travel Tips

Madrid is listed as one of Europe's top cities to visit. What is it that makes Madrid so special? Some people say it's the vibrant Spanish lifestyle, others the rich heritage of art and culture and the magnificent architecture. Still others say there is simply such a wealth of attractions. For many people, it is all of these things. You may have one specific interest that you are visiting Madrid for but you can be sure that you'll come away with incredible memories of this beautiful city.

People interested in European culture and history will be fascinated by the many historical sites and museums near Madrid vacation rentals. Palaces, theaters, and churches all tell their own stories of Spain's dramatic history. Art and music enthusiasts will be spoiled for choice when trying to decide which museum, gallery or theater to visit first. Madrid does an excellent job of showcasing Spain's rich heritage of opera and many famous artists. Madrid is not only for the more mature culture enthusiasts. The vibrant nightlife, excellent cuisine and amazing shopping attract many young and trendy travelers.

Traveling to Madrid Holiday Villas

Madrid is served by the Barajas International Airport, located approximately 12 kilometers from the city center. The airport is the fifth busiest one in Europe. It facilitates more than 46 million passengers a year and accommodates more than 100 different international and regional airlines. There are four terminals at the airport and shuttles and taxis operate 24 hours a day to ensure you are always able to get where you need to be.

There is an extensive railway network in Spain providing easy access to Madrid from almost anywhere in the country. The two main rail terminals are Atocha and Chamartin. Both these railway stations receive high-speed and suburban trains from destinations within Spain. Chamartin is the international terminal for long haul trains from France and Portugal.

There is an extensive road network that originates in Madrid and spreads out across the country. Car rental is available but driving in the busy city traffic can be a bit daunting for foreign travelers so it's recommended to use public transport. The most affordable way to get around the city is to purchase a Madrid pass. Available from one-day passes up to seven-day passes, these passes allow visitors to use all public transport, undergrounds and trains at a greatly reduced price.

Staying in Madrid

Like most major European cities, hotel accommodations in Madrid are expensive. Renting Madrid accommodations is an affordable way to be able to stay long enough to enjoy all the city's sights. Rental apartments are centrally located near business centers and major tourist attractions. Many are within walking distance and those that aren't will be near a public transport terminal. The rental homes tend to be small and are perfect for couples or a small group of friends. Because there is so much to see and do in Madrid, staying in a rental affords you a greater level of freedom and convenience to be able to come and go as you please.

Some of Madrid's Most Famous Cultural Sites

The Royal Palace and Armory is open for the public to tour. These impressive buildings were home to generations of Spanish monarchs and the stories of their lives make for an interesting guided tour. The Teatro Real was founded by Queen Isabel II and intended to be one of the world's most impressive opera houses. Being able to enjoy a performance here is something to be cherished. The Spanish National Library has over half a million books and manuscripts and is dedicated to preserving the written heritage of Spain. The many historic buildings in Madrid each tell a story of their own. The Spanish people are proud of their heritage and make every effort to preserve it.
