  • Glorious Amalfi

"At the risk of repeating all the wonderful things that have been written about Oliver and Lella I feel compelled to do so. They are truly wonderful hosts and Oliver will go out of his way to insure that the time spent at his well tended villa is perfect in every sense. A spring holiday for three of us was one we will never forget not only for the beautiful landscape of the Amalfi coast, the wonderful food and wine and the lemons, my god, the lemons! The house is very thoughtfully organized to make it user friendly and with every convenience one would want. Being early in the season we were not able to partake of the garden they were planting for their guests and Oliver's boat was not yet ready but we enjoyed the lemons and Oliver arranged another boat for us and spent the day with us providing his inimitable take on the coast he loves so much. The boat trip is, as others have said, is worth every penny. We cannot recommend House Oliver more highly. A few tips for those lucky enough to stay here. Oliver's restaurant recommendations are excellent of course but be sure to try Lido Azzuro at lunch time in Amalfi. Also a warning; do not buy wine from D'Vino in Ravello aka Wine Amalfi Coast or Antonio Mansi. He is a thief and a liar. We are currently battling over Euro 1000 worth of wine that he has failed to deliver. There are other warnings on Trip Advisor about this crook (which I wish we had read before we fell into his hands) but the more the better. Apart from that enjoy your stay at House Oliver!"

Spain Travel Tips

Visitors to Spain Vacation Rentals

Spain attracts travelers who enjoy the sunshine and a great vacation vibe. The Spanish people are known for their festive nature where almost anything is an excuse to have a celebration. There are many age-old traditions such as bull fighting and the running of the bulls that still take place today. Festivals and events take place throughout the summer season, and visitors can join in and enjoy the celebrations. For those with an interest in art, culture, history and architecture, Spain offers a wide variety of museums and historical attractions. Outdoor adventurers can enjoy trekking and hiking in the northern Pyrenees mountains. Beach lovers can laze on the many beautiful beaches along the coast.

Traveling to Spain Villas

Spain has more than 30 international airports. The primary international airport, however, is Madrid. For flights from across the Atlantic and other parts of the world, you will most likely first fly into Madrid before connecting on to your domestic destination. If you are already in Europe, you can take advantage of the many low-cost airline deals that fly to the various smaller international airports. From London, for example, you can get direct flights to Ibiza or Majorca. In Spain, there are frequent domestic flights connecting the various cities. Once there, one of the best ways to get around is by bus. While there is an extensive rail network, it does not include stops in many of the smaller coastal towns. Car hire is easily available if you want to explore independently. The country roads are generally not too congested but city traffic can be somewhat chaotic.

Top Spain Travel Attractions

Spain has a little bit of everything: A rich cultural heritage, vibrant nightlife, excellent dining, beautiful beaches, outdoor adventures and much more are available. For a cultural experience, visit the vibrant cities of Barcelona or Madrid. In these cities, you can be amazed by the artistic architectural styles, visit beautiful cathedrals and ancient museums. A big part of the modern-day culture is football and it is an experience to watch one of the local games in the stadiums. Spanish people are generally friendly and you can soon find yourself as part of the crowd. Just make sure that you are supporting the same teams as your new friends.

Madrid is known for its excellent nightlife. Be prepared for an all-night dancing expedition if you do plan to head out. Most clubs only open at midnight and close when the sun comes up the next morning. The various coastal regions are a bustle of activity during the summer months. Spend the days lazing on the beach, enjoying a leisurely cruise sailing or fishing on the Mediterranean Sea. The islands of Majorca, Menorca and Ibiza are known to be the playground for the rich and famous. If you want to do some celebrity spotting, this is the place to be. Spain has an extensive wine region and the majority of the wines are sold locally. Many blends and cultivars are unique to Spain.

Best Seasons to Visit Spain

Spain is known throughout Europe as a summer vacation destination. The peak travel season is during July and August as literally millions of visitors flock to the warm sunshine and beautiful beaches along the coast. Spain enjoys a typical Mediterranean climate which results in long, dry summer days. The weather starts to warm from April and stays mild until early October along the coastal regions. Travelers who want to avoid the summer crowds can travel earlier or later in the season. If you want to experience the cultural side of Spain, then plan your travels around Holy Week which is the start of many festivals. Other events take place throughout the summer season.
