  • A Diamond in Narbonne

"You can never find a better place than Henri and Chantal's apartment. It was the BEST apartment we stayed in from the 3-week trips with my girlfriends from Nice, Marseille, Narbonne, Lourdes to Toulouse and the best landlords! The apartment - the photos spoke themselves. It was 5-min walk from the center square, 10-min walk from Narbonne train station, the apartment was massive - 2 bedrooms, 1 bath but with huge double sink n massive open shower, living room, dining room, kitchen - am not kidding, everything was proportionately huge with Henri's handiwork in most of the stuff in the apt! 1 huge and 1 small terrace, the big overlooking a real ancient church. But, since I am a cook, I appreciated the kitchen the best - huge and with all the comforts of a chef's kitchen, except for a magic bullet blender....:0). Extremely clean, because the landlords do everrything themselves! The beds were so so comfortable and linens in the designerr category! The Band and Olufsen docking station (4S only, though) was superb, just as the wi-fi! Landlords - Henri picked us up from the train station, what a service! He dropped us off, too! Henri and Chantal - thank you so much for the awesome stay! We could never have imagined a better landlords, apt, and stay, than at your place and Narbonne! Narbonne - small but quaint town. We loved meandering the little streets, enjoying Les Halles - like La Boqueria of Barcelona - fresh produce stalls - veggies, fruits, meats, and little restaurants and pastry places. We found the wonderful L'Entre Temps restaurant with fabulous food and waitress- Natalie - she was a hoot, and befriended a couple from Belgium who often the place when they are in town for 6 months! Le Cuisiniers Cavistes was fabulous restaurant, too - ambiance, food, service - exquisite - love the beef w/ a slice of seared pure duck liver on top - to die for!!!!. Thursday was a flea market day - though not in the Amerrican sense of selling junks- but more like farmer's market type - clothes, purses, shoes, perfumes, soaps, hats, scarves.....the 3 days we were there was not enough - one must stay from Wed - Sunday and just enjoy Narbonne and the apartment. Henri and Chantal, thank you again for being the best and having the best apartment! We love and miss you two. Am certainly looking forward to renting your place again. Lorna Mebs"

  • Marvellous holiday!!

"Alder Cottage is a spacious and luxurious holiday home in a beautiful and unspoilt environment. Host Mary gave us a warm welcome and provided us with tasteful organic meals. Our two children had a great time playing table tennis in the shed next to the cottage. There is plenty to do in the North West of Ireland. North Leitrim offers great mountain walks and it is an ideal base from where to make trips to the Donegal and Mayo Coasts and Marble Arch Caves. Our children especially liked the Ulster American Folk Park in Northern Ireland. The recently opened Cavan Burren Park is also a recommandation."

Switzerland Travel Tips

Visitors to Switzerland Vacation Rentals

Switzerland is a scenically beautiful destination. Most of the country is dominated by the towering Swiss Alps which remain snow-capped for a large portion of the year. Traditionally, Switzerland is a destination that has a high price tag attached to it. It is the home of luxury watchmakers, elite private banks, and arguably some of the best chocolate in the world. It therefore tends to attract the more affluent traveler. The Swiss Alps have been the favorite skiing destination for royalty and celebrities for decades. The resorts are run with typical European efficiency which makes Switzerland one of the oldest and finest skiing destinations in the world. From the start of the season in December all the way through to April, many skiing enthusiasts flock to the various resorts in Switzerland. A large majority of travelers are from neighboring countries such as Germany, Austria, Italy and France, as well as Belgium and the Netherlands.

Switzerland Travel Attractions

Skiing in the winter season is undoubtedly one of Switzerland’s main attractions. There are many leading resorts which include well-known names such as Verbier, Davos and Klosters. Most resorts are actually villages that are located in the valleys. Each village generally has two or three ski areas on the surrounding slopes. Ski lifts and cable cars provide easy access to the slopes. Most resorts have ski schools where you learn to ski or snowboard or simply improve your skills. Most ski runs are groomed and range in levels from beginner slopes to advanced black runs. Depending on your skiing ability, you may want to choose a resort area that caters to your level of skill.

Throughout the year, there are many spas that offer beauty therapy treatments and relaxation in stunning mountain surroundings. You can visit for a day or weekend, or stay a week enjoying the hot mineral baths and pampering treatments. Many are located within easy driving distance from the ski resorts and can be accessed by buses and trains in all seasons.

When the snow melts, the Alps open up to a whole range of adventure activities. Mountaineering enthusiasts take on the highest peaks and casual hikers can enjoy exploring the lower slopes. In recent years, mountain biking has become a popular pastime and there are many marked biking trails on the mountains. There are also sections of the Rhine that have excellent whitewater rafting in season. Local outfitters run commercial trips for rafts and kayaks depending on your level of paddling skills.

Switzerland’s cities are incredible to experience. Museums, theaters, art galleries, and some of the most exclusive shopping in the world make them worth a visit. The two main cities are Zurich and Geneva which are located within relatively easy driving distance of one another. The surrounding lakes also offer many summer recreational activities.

Seasons to Travel to Switzerland Chalets

Switzerland is a superb destination to visit at any time of year. The season that you choose to travel in will depend largely on what your interests are. The ski season typically starts in December and runs through April, depending on the season’s snowfalls. The peak period for skiers is between late December and February. Spring is a particularly beautiful time of year in Switzerland and great for outdoor enthusiasts that don’t mind the remaining chill in the air. The summer days are long and warm, and perfect for a wide range of outdoor explorations.

Getting to Switzerland Vacation Rentals

For many European travelers, the easiest and most convenient way to travel is by train. High-speed intercity trains link all major towns and cities, and smaller conventional trains will take you to the villages and ski resorts. International airports are located in both Zurich and Geneva, and host a wide variety of international and regional airlines on regularly scheduled commercial flights.
