  • Very Nice Apartment in Beyoglu

"We really enjoyed our stay at this apartment and it helped us experience Istanbul. The apartment was clean, the kitchen had all the necessities, and the view off the balcony was spectacular. Pros: Location, just a block off the main pedestrian way, Istiklal, and in close proximity to a bunch of good restaurants and shops. The apartment was hot and stuffy when we arrived, but opening the balcony window and kitchen windows created a nice, cooling cross breeze. The bedroom is upstairs in a finished attic. It's nice, but is very stuffy until you get the air con going. I'd recommend starting the air con as soon as you arrive in preparation for the evening. The clothes washer was very helpful and we air-dried our clothes on the clothes rack provided on the balcony. Nahide was very helpful throughout our stay. Pros: Proximity to Istiklal, Taksim Square, the Tunel funicular to other public transport connections, restaurants and shops in the backstreets south of Istiklal. Other pros include cleanliness, the nice cross breeze, the large kitchen, and the fanstastic balcony with beautiful views of Sultanahmet and Galata Tower. The views were spectacular. The security door at the entrance to the building was secure. Cons: The attic bedroom was stuffy until the air con caught up. In hotter weather than we had, I wonder if the air con would be enough. Lots of stairs to get up to the apartment. The exterior of the building was not very pleasant, but the apartment itself was very nice. Tips: Walk down Istiklal, but for better restaurants and fewer crowds, try the side streets in the blocks just south of Istiklal, all the way up to Taksim. Hidden gems on those side streets. For a traditional Turkish breakfast, kahvalti, we enjoyed Cafe Firuz, which was a few blocks south and east. Watch Anthony Bourdain's show on Istanbul for more eating ideas. Another tip, hire Istanbul's Best Taxi Driver, as we did. We had a great day with him for a very reasonable price. besttaxidriver.com Thank you, Nahide!"

Istanbul Travel Tips

Attractions near Istanbul Vacation Rentals

Istanbul is a beautiful ancient city filled with culture, relics, museums and majestic old buildings. With a history that dates back thousands of years, there are numerous attractions to visit. You will need to choose your sightseeing options carefully if you want to visit all the places that are of interest to you. Most of the historic sites can be found in old Istanbul and have stood there since Roman times.

The Hippodrome is a relic of the Byzantine Empire and was built by Septimus Severus. Once a majestic arena measuring 480 by 117 meters, it could house up to 10,000 people. The emperor could reach the arena through a series of underground tunnels that ran from the palace. The Hippodrome was an important part of Byzantine social life as it was where chariot races took place. Later, during the Ottoman Empire, it was used for important ceremonies and events.

The Sultanmet Mosque is located across the square from the Hippodrome. This impressive structure is also sometimes known as the Blue Mosque. It is the only mosque worldwide that has six minarets. The mosque is open to visitors for viewing but you need to make sure that you are properly attired before entering. Women must have their heads covered with a scarf and wear long-sleeved tops and long pants. Men should not wear shorts as this is also frowned upon.

There are several historic Turkish Baths that can be seen in Istanbul. Rather than seeking them out on your own, why not join a guided special interest tour? This will give you some insight into the history and design of each of the baths and their significance to the local community.
