These are either snorkeling or scuba diving trips, depending on whether the guests have diving certifications. There are several qualified dive companies that can take you out and provide equipment to rent. Fishing is another popular pastime. Deep sea fishing charters can be arranged from the local marinas. The main fishing season is between March and November. From January to April, you can experience some magnificent whale sightings. Several whale species can be seen with their young along the coast.

If you enjoy cycling, there is a great route that passes right through La Paz. The 230-mile Cape Loop goes to Todos Santos, Cabo San Lucas, Buena Vista, and various other cities. The Pichilingue Peninsula has some excellent single-track trails for biking enthusiasts. Just north of La Paz are several places where you can enjoy day hikes along the Pichilingue Peninsula. After enjoying a few hours on the trail, you can find yourself on a beautiful secluded beach. If you want to explore with longer multi-day hikes, head to the Laguna Mountains to the south of La Paz.

La Paz is located in the province of Baja California Sur, Mexico. It enjoys a warm year-round climate with more than 300 sunshine days per year. The summer months run from June to September, and are hot and humid. While this is a popular time of year to visit because it coincides with school vacations, it is advisable to choose a vacation home that has either ceiling fans or air conditioning. Because of the high levels of humidity, many people prefer to visit during the cooler winter months when the temperatures are milder and the air is drier. If you are planning to explore the underwater treasures, the best time of year for diving is between May and November when the waters are most clear.

Getting to La Paz, Mexico

La Paz is the capital city of the Baja California Sur state and a significant commercial center. La Paz has an international airport with flight connections to all major cities in Mexico as well as to neighboring countries. The Manual Marquez de Leon International Airport has direct flights from Los Angeles, Mexico City, Monterrey and Guadalajara. Several major commercial airlines have regular flight connections to La Paz. Just outside of the city is the port of Pichilingue which has ferry connections across to the Mexican mainland. If you plan to drive to La Paz, the Highway 1 provides easy access from the U.S. San Diego border post.
