  • Quiet, feeling like a local.

"The casita had everything we needed for a relaxing break away from the busy-ness of a pre-arranged, all-inclusive resort vacation. We've done that, a resort is okay, but the seclusion of small-town Los Barriles is just what we were looking for. We opted not to get a car, but probably will next time...or maybe just a quad, we didn't really need a car. Instead, we had Wolf Management arrange a pick-up for us at the airport. Reasonably priced and friendly, the guys at Turis Pancho were at the airport waiting with a van for just us. We stopped a local mini-mart for a few beverages before we left Los Cabos and they took us to a grocery store in Los Barriles for some more essentials. We met up with Wolf Property folks and they checked us right in. (I forgot about the deposit, but had the cash on me which they refunded in the same cash at check-out.) Los Barriles is tiny, but we weren't here for anything but relaxation. We kept saying we'd go to town and get a car or a quad, but it took us three days to bother to walk all the way into town when a grocery store was an easy walk in a safe neighborhood. It was not a bad walk to town, we just didn't feel like bothering and Wolf said they'd have a car delivered if we wanted. Everyone took dollars at a reasonable exchange, so we didn't get pesos very often either. We'd just walk up the street for whatever sounded good (and for more limes...definitely perfected my margarita recipe...that's one tough blender!) Finally, we did rent a quad for a few days, and never felt the need for a car. The quad allowed us to run to town to eat out. Taqueria Viejo was our favorite, but Barilito was fine and the nachos at Vagos Sports Bar, where we watched the game, were excellent. We didn't go to town for the nightlife; if you want a big party, this isn't your place I've heard, but I never checked for myself. If you want to relax on the beach, kayak at a leisurely pace and snorkle for fun, it's all right here. We aren't fishermen, but did see folks fishing from the beach or from small boats. We loved the privacy, the beach was always clean and quiet. The noisiest thing was the quads, but they're just not that bothersome when you're relaxing on the beach. We loved our time in Los Barriles and at the casita!!"

  • Perfect stay on the Cape

"Just returned from our spring break tour of the Baja. Had the pleasure of staying for a few days in this wonderfully appointed house. It was perfect for our party of 8 as there was plenty of room for all of us ... and then some. The kitchen is equipped with every thing you would need to prepare a gourmet meal; the living room has multiple seating areas so everyone can spread out and do their own thing; the bedrooms are laid out in such a way as to maximize privacy; the outdoor area/pool area overlooks the stunning Sea of Cortez. Polli (the house manager) maintains the house very well as it is very, very clean and everything works perfectly. Unlike other homes we have rented, the house is well stocked with beach towels, pool/beach toys, bottled water, t.p, paper towels, body soap, laundry soap. The house is positioned to maximize sea breezes, so we never used the AC. The area is also very safe so we slept with the sliding doors in the bedroom open to the evening breeze and had a perfect night's rest to the sound of the waves below. Punta Pescadero is situated about 30-40 minutes from Los Barilles (the nearest town), so the setting is very rural and quiet. Days were spent relaxing by the pool or out on the kayaks (supplied). We had one afternoon sipping cocktails at the small hotel down the road and were fortunate enough to be entertained by a Humpback whale breaching just off the shore! We did drive into El Cardonal (if-you-blink-you-will-miss-it village 15 minutes north) for dinner twice - once at the taco truck near the basketball courts which only serves on weekends; and once at El Cardonito (very good). Fyi, for those who can't live without their java, had very good lattes/espressos at Cafe Encinalito in los Barilles. We have rented many homes through VRBO all over the world and I must say that this is one of our best experiences. I can't emphasize enough how well stocked/equipped this home is. It never felt like a rental home (with locked closets full of supplies, or half filled dish soap dispenser) but rather like we were staying at a friends home. It was a pleasure communicating with Steve throughout the planning process as he was always prompt with his responses and provided a ton of info on the house and area. Thank you Steve for sharing your wonderful vacation homes with us."

  • VILLAS ARE THE WAY TO GO

"Staying in the Villas de Cortez gives you access to the condo pool area and also the Palmas de Cortez pool area but the Palmas people cannot access the condo area. Great first floor condo that is very well kept up. Owner was great to work with and the condo manager Pedro was always around to help out if needed. Everything is stocked here that you would ever need, they even had skewers for the pork kabobs that I made on the gas bbq. You can bring your own drinks to the pool or buy a beer at the pool bar for only $3. Vendors are on the beach if you want to do some shopping but they are not allowed on property and are not pushy at all. It's about 15 steps from your car to the front door. You can book your fishing boat at the Palmas de Cortez and I recommend Captain Raul Montano on the boat El Borracho. Wife had an excellent massage at the Spa for $80."

  • Returning guest--from Oregon

"Safe and wonderful return trip (3rd) to this lovely ocean front home and the Baja. The town, home and the property are perfect for a family or group seeking a traditional old remote baja type experience. If you want a quiet and natural vacation this place is for you. We enjoy fishing, cooking, scuba diving (1.5 hours away) and walking the white clean beaches. The small friendly coastal town has almost one of everything you need. We drive 30 minutes to the larger town for one big weekly shopping trip. The home owner is great and very helpful. Cabo is 2.5 hours away if you want the action of the big city. We have explored all of the baja south of La Paz and while we love it all we appreciate returning home to this special property."
