The Baja Peninsula is definitely Mexico despite using Baja California in its name. When you rent any of the San Jose Del Cabo vacation rentals, you will immediately see the difference in other vacation spots and that of Cabo San Lucas. Cabo San Lucas is a hot destination for college students and young couples, whereas San Jose Del Cabo is for the more mature group. San Jose Del Cabo Vacation Houses and Nearby Heritage and Culture

Baja California has its roots in the 16th and 17th century, when Spanish galleons would drop anchor on the coast to find fresh water. Many of the ships were coming from the Philippines to Acapulco but would be unable to make it without a stop on the peninsula for water. The bays were also a prominent spot for pirates to raid ships because they were able to hide and surprise the Spanish galleons full of cargo. This led to the first permanent settlement of the Baja Peninsula. In 1730, the area received yet another change as Padre Nicolas Tamaral began the Mission San Jose del Cabo overlooking the Rio San Jose. Again the Spanish lost ground fighting with Native Indians and mosquitoes until a military outpost strengthened their hold. The Mexican American War decided the fate of the Baja Peninsula, leaving it in control of Mexico while the upper portion was engulfed in the U.S. When you stay at San Jose Del Cabo vacation houses, you will be treated to more of the heritage and culture the Mexican destination has to offer.
