  • Great views, wonderful city.

"Casa Rosa is dramaticaly situated and offers from every room in the house magnificent views of Guanjuato, a spectacular and effervescent city. We greatly appreciated our month in the house, the help and attention of the house manager, the visits of one the local cats who we adopted, the proximity of the city center, the beauty of the city scape. Climbing to the house is a demanding exercise but gets one rapidly into shape."

  • Awesome Home in Great Location of SMA!!!!

"My family of 6 just returned from a fabulous trip celebrating the new year in SMA. I am not sure I can convey how pleased we were with this property. The photos and descriptions were spot on. The home is in a gated neighborhood with everything you need within a short walk. (Food, Drug Store, Restaurants, ICE CREAM, Bars.....). Just another few blocks of walking you will be near the famous Jardin in Centro. This home includes the services of Luzma, the family's housekeeper. She keeps the home immaculate and will prepare any kind of breakfast you want which is included in the fee. For a few extra pesos she is willing to stay and cook an evening meal if you find the hundreds of restaurants within walking distance lacking :-) You could easily arrive, follow Ann's book of suggestions, and have an awesome trip without any advanced planning! Be sure to look at "A Perfect Week in San Miguel" which she will email you before your arrival. Our favorite activity was horseback riding at the Xolotar Ranch, about 20 minutes out of town. They will pick you up at the home, take you on a stunning 2 1/2 hour ride through beautiful hills, canyons, and even a flowing creek. This is followed by a homemade lunch in which 100% of the ingredients came from the ranch. The guides will allow you to ride at any pace that you want to. The horses were spirited yet gentle. When they drop you off after your adventure, the Jacuzzi and solar heated pool will be ready to soak your tired muscles! The home is also filled with many unique pieces of local art and handmade furniture. We enjoyed many leisurely games of chess in one of the family rooms on their large custom chess set. The home's telephone is made available to guests which allows toll free calls back to the United States as well as to Mexico. This ended up being a very valuable perk for our group. The first floor was served very well with high speed Wifi. Lastly, the owner was immediate in her email responses before, during, and after our trip. She is obviously committed to insuring her guests have a first class experience. I cannot give this home a higher recommendation!!"

  • Sun - Friends - Dinner Parties - Painting on the Terrace

"I just spent a month in Don's house and I couldn't be more pleased. It's a beautiful home that feels comfortable, safe, and special - excellent layout. We cooked dinners many nights (found everything we needed) and benefited from the lovely china, big dining room table, and dishwasher! Plus cocktails on the patio or around the fireplace. All the bedrooms have balconies and excellent beds/mattresses. My guests were extremely pleased and slept well. The master bedroom has a lovely ceiling and fireplace; the closet is huge, the shower has excellent water pressure and having two sinks in the bathroom is great. I can't say enough good things about the 3rd floor terrace. I spent hours there painting, reading and taking in the view ... listening to the sounds of SMA. Thank you."

  • Wonderful Stay!!!!!

"We stayed at Casa Anna for a week. We had an amazing time in SMA. The house is so beautiful as soon as we stepped in we felt like we were in paradise. We love sitting at night on the roof enjoying the amazing view of the city. The house is also beautifully decorated! Every day we found something interesting to enjoy. Juanita (the maid) was amazing she cooked for us an amazing breakfast. She is so friendly and was a pleasure talking with her. We were so happy we chose Casa Anna is very conveniently located with everything so close like restaurants, market, jardin, parroquia, shops. The only regret we had is that we wish we could have stay longer."

Guanajuato Travel Tips

Vibrant City Life in Guanajuato

The city of Guanajuato is the cultural capital of the Bajio region in Central Mexico. The many historic buildings, museums and preservation of culture have resulted in the city center being declared a World Heritage Site. There are few places in Mexico where you can see such fine examples of architecture that dates back to the Spanish colonial era. As you explore the city sights, you can learn about the legends and historical events that have become an intrinsic part of the city's culture. Guanajuato travel is exciting, and you'd do well to read up on the many attractions in the guide book beforehand to ensure that you don't miss out on experiencing the city to its fullest.

Guanajuato is a Year-Round Destination

Weather-wise Guanajuato has three main climates varying from temperate to semi-arid and semi-dry. The days are hot with temperatures seldom dropping below 17 degrees C (62 degrees F). This makes the destination ideal not only for experiencing the cultural sites but also for exploring its surroundings.

Have an Adventure at Guanajuato Vacation Rentals

There are several nature reserves near Guanajuato where you can enjoy the scenic beauty of the sierras on various hiking and mountain biking trails. The Valley de Santiago, located 54 miles from the city, has legendary mountain biking routes which take you to explore the many volcanic rock formations. The Zona Recreativa de las Palomas is located just 15 minutes from the city by car. The reserve is a haven for migratory birds from North America and a great attraction for bird-watchers. Here, you can take a tour in which you will learn about the birds as well as the different plants, trees and herbs of the region. For those looking for some thrills, you can go paragliding at Cerro del Cubilete which is 25 miles from Guanajuato or hot air ballooning in the nearby city of Leon.

Explore the Culture of Guanajuato

The city has an intricate network of paths and underground tunnels which connect throughout the city. Callejon del Beso is home to one of the city's most famous legends. Known as the alley of the kiss, the legend tells of two young lovers who were forbidden to be together; they would meet under darkness in the small alley to steal a kiss. A walk through the city center will take you to view the beautiful architecture of the Basilica Señora de Guanajuato, the Alhondiga de Granaditas, the Templo de San Diego, and the Monumento al Pipila. During your meanderings, you can stop in at the markets such as the Baratillo. Here, you will find ceramics and jewelry crafted by hand in a tradition that has been handed down through the generations. Other crafts include hand-blown glass, wood sculptures, brass utensils and Mexican toys such as yo-yos and spinning tops. It's interesting to watch the artisans at work and spend time selecting a bowl or earthen pot to take home as a souvenir.

Enjoy the City Views from Your Guanajuato Accommodation

Many apartments and homes available for rental in Guanajuato have spectacular views over the city. On a warm evening, you can go up to the roof of your San Miguel de Allende vacation rental and watch the city lights illuminate the beautiful buildings. The apartments are equipped with most amenities and can accommodate families, couples and groups of friends. Vacation rentals are some of the most affordable ways to visit and stay in Guanajuato. It's a city with a distinct vibe and safe to explore on your own. Staying in a local apartment will provide you with a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the local culture. You can buy fresh produce from the market and enjoy some freshly baked bread as part of your breakfast.
