"Although I have heard about San Miguel from artist friends who had gone there to live, we had no idea what to expect as tourists. Everything was a delightful surprise starting with the hills like a Mexican San Francisco. This house was spectacular and the owners have lovingly attended to every detail and thought of all your needs, even little slips of paper written in Spanish with the address to give to taxi drivers. My favorite space was the terrace off the kitchen where we enjoyed leisurely meals and a fantastic view. The ever-changing clouds, the songs of birds & roosters, The lack of traffic noise, the church bells created a relaxing sanctuary. We slept so well every night. The Mexican art, dishes, colors & furniture delighted us. Up on the roof I loved doing yoga, reading or just cloud watching. Once our feet got used to walking on the cobblestone streets, we walked to El Centro at least once a day. The people on our street as well as the whole town were friendly. We always felt safe. Soledad, the housekeeper is a gem. Be sure to take advantage of her cooking as much as possible. We thought they were the best meals that we had and we had plenty of great meals. My best advice is to bring sturdy, thick soled shoes for walking. Nothing in America can prepare you for how rugged their streets are, but to thoroughly enjoy this town you need to walk, browse, explore, shop. It's a small town & almost every place can be reached in a half hour walk from this ideally situated home. This is a great place for a peaceful and private get away."
