  • Lovely Bones

"First of all, if you have selected SMA for a vacation, you can't go wrong. It is a lovely city with great restaurants, interesting art and a huge range of activities to keep you entertained. The house itself is in a great location - no more than a 5 minute walk to the main market, and perhaps another 5 more minutes to the Jardin. As well, its location up a hill provides fantastic views from the roof top deck. The house is great - lovely deck, beautiful boveda ceilings, courtyards, well equipped kitchen, super comfy beds, nice linens......basically everything you could want. Some of the decorations in the house were a bit "heavy" for our taste (I realize this is entirely a personal thing). The house does, however, need a thorough cleaning as we found many cob webs and dust bunnies - including one in the kitchen that grew daily and was riddled with bugs by the end of our stay - hardy a big deal, but I suspect the housekeeper is more concerned with making the beds than scrubbing. As well, the main gate at the street locks (and thus the house was secure), but the lock for the housekeeper's entrance was never locked during our stay, and the door into the kitchen from the housekeeper's area was broken, so basically the house never locked. This didn't really worry us, but it does need to be addressed. In addition, I feel that damage deposits should be returned as promptly as possible - preferably in cash on the day of departure - as this has been our experience with virtually every other VRBO and/or international rental we have made."

  • Casita in San Miguel de Allende

"We were so excited to finally stay in San Miguel. Well, it was even more special staying in a beautiful Casita, that was warm, cozy and the decor was so well done! Sharon, was so nice and someone you felt you have known forever! Very helpful and made our first night, very welcoming after a long drive! Sharon's home is beautiful and the garden outside the Casita is wonderful to wake up to. My favorite, were the all the windows and great decor! A place that after a day out, was so special to look forward to coming back to and relax. We ate in a few times, which was very romantic. The bedroom and bed was very comfortable, the TV worked great. Bathroom nice size for two and the shower was great. Lots of closet space. I cannot say enough about this amazing Casita. I would go back in a second. Yes, the Casita was magical. Francisca and Carlos were part of Sharon's staff, they were very nice. San Miguel de Allende is such a special place. The restaurants are the best, very reasonable, we went to a great piano bar and enjoyed walking the city, viewing the old Colonial buildings. Lots of little nooks and crannies to explore! Much more reasonable then Europe!"

  • Magical Week, Perfect Place to Stay

"My son and I had a magical time during our week at the casa and in San Miguel de Allende. This home is a beautiful, comfortable retreat that is exactly as pictured. It is lovingly maintained and, during our stay, cared for by a delightful housekeeper who was also kind enough to teach us a little Spanish every time we saw her. The home had everything we needed, and when we wanted to take a break from exploring, we had an eclectic library of books and videos to keep us entertained, along with plenty of sunny verandas to choose from for relaxing. The casa is a short walk away from the center of the city (10-15 mins, slight uphill on the return) and located in a neighborhood with mostly Mexican families. The owner of the casa, Tim, was incredibly gracious and easy to work with from start to finish. We so appreciated the starter groceries left for our first morning after a late night arrival, beautiful vases of fresh flowers, and the helpful list of his favorite restaurants and recommended experiences in the city and beyond. We thoroughly enjoyed our adventures in San Miguel de Allende. It is a charming city full of surprises at every turn, behind every door, and in every courtyard. The people we encountered were gracious and helpful and so patient with our attempts at Spanish. We loved our meals and the gorgeous views at the rooftop restaurant La Posadita, and breakfast in the courtyard of Hotel Posada Carmina. The Lavanda Cafe was a charming gem of a restaurant as well. We enjoyed the Jardin Botanica (a short taxi ride away), the Allende Museum, exploring the many artist’s studios and shops at La Fabrica de Aurora (5 mins from the casa), and walking, walking everywhere (comfortable shoes are a must on the cobblestones). Thank you, Tim and Maru, for a wonderful stay. We hope to return soon to continue the adventure. – Debbie and Ryan, Santa Barbara"

Dolores Hidalgo Travel Tips

Dolores Hidalgo Vacation Rentals

Dolores Hidalgo is situated near the city of Guadalajara in Mexico. Dolores Hidalgo is known for its rich history as the city where Mexico's struggle for independence from Spanish rule began (and continued until 1824). Because of its rich history, Dolores Hidalgo is a colonial city, where visitors to the area are first greeted by a huge statue representing the heroes that fought for the country's independence. The city is also known for its ceramics and plenty of fun and activities in and around the city's main plaza.

Whether you're heading to Dolores Hidalgo for a romantic getaway or on a family vacation, Dolores Hidalgo vacation rentals offer you a home away from home experience. Vacation rental property styles range from condominiums to Dolores Hidalgo villas. Especially for extended stays, vacation rentals provide the comfort and convenience of amenities such as kitchens, living areas, private bedrooms and more space than you'll find in a hotel room.

Living Like the Locals in a Guanajuato Accommodation

The small town atmosphere of Dolores Hidalgo allows most visitors to feel as if they are part of the community. While spending your vacation in a hotel surrounds you with other visitors to the area, staying in a Gunajuato accommodation, such as Dolores Hidalgo villas, surrounds you with the locals, which means you are truly immersing yourself in the culture of Dolores Hidalgo. Whether you choose to meet your neighbors or keep to yourself, a private Dolores Hidalgo vacation rental gives you the option and the space to entertain your family or relax in comfort.

Delores Hidalgo Vacation Rental Activities

Wander down the streets that lead to the main plaza from the front door of your Dolores Hidalgo vacation rental. View the decorative ceramics, Talavera ceramic pieces, the area is famous for in the ceramic shops or tour one of the ceramic factories. The other item that Delores Hidalgo is famous for is its ice cream, so you'll find ice cream stands on all four corners of the main plaza. In addition to serving traditional ice cream flavors such as vanilla, chocolate and strawberry, Dolores Hidalgo serves up scoops of less common flavors such as avocado, shrimp and tequila flavors.
