"My husband and I visited the city with a great friend of ours, and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this lovely home in Guanajuato. The set-up of the house is perfect for privacy when desired, while still being able to enjoy time together. Each floor has a master bedroom suite and a sitting/living room area - the kitchen is on the second floor which has lovely open windows and a balcony that allow the breezes off the hills to fill the area. We enjoyed having our coffee in the morning and our wine at night on the third floor balcony overlooking the dramatic city-scape. The kitchen was well equipped and had everything you'd need to fix meals at home, but the food was so inexpensive and good in town, that we ate breakfasts at home and ate out the balance of the time. The beds were very comfortable and were generally able to lull us back to sleep when the dogs outside the building started to bark in the middle of the night. My husband is a light sleeper -- I'm not, so he had a bit of a problem one or two nights with the dogs. The house is far enough from the middle of the city that there is relatively little traffic noise - we specifically went to Guanajuato when we did, to enjoy the Festival of the Flowers in town on the Thursday prior to Palm Sunday. It was a MASS of people parading through the town, but little was really heard in our neighborhood after ten PM. My husband is having some spine and back issues, so he has been using a cane - it was SO convenient to be able to leave the house, walk a few yards up the alley and have an area that was basically a cab stand at the head of the street. There was a bus stop as well, but we didn't use buses since you could basically take a cab anywhere in town for between three and four dollars US. Everyone in Guanajuato is SO very friendly - we've never felt any safer on any of our trips outside of the country. We speak very little Spanish, but had utilized some Spanish tapes prior to our visit and were able to communicate on a basic level with no real issues - everyone was eager to help us. The large Wal-Mart style store is about three blocks from the house and has almost everything you could want. Many of the brands are the U.S. ones we're used to, and the prices are very low; everything seemed very fresh. Martha was wonderful and arranged to have John get us to and from the airport and got us reservations for dinner one night when our lack of Spanish was a problem. She is a delight."

  • Wow what a perfect place

"My husband and teenage son just got back from Guanajuato and loved everything he city and this place. My son loved that the shuttuers could be closed in the front bedroom so he was not bothered by the morning sun :) He loved the blazing fast WIFI for our siesta and evening time at the house. I loved the counter space and huge open windows in the kitchen and that I could make a nice breakfast each morning. We all LOVED the roof deck where we spent each day from around 2-4pm relaxing with a cold drink and taking in the view and the cool breeze. It was very close to everything and was on the walking route to la pipila. Best part about the location was that it was a relatively quiet part of town. You could hear dogs barking and roosters crowing in the morning but it was not the location for evening revelry and musicians which you can visit but do not have to sleep next to. One of my favorite parts of the experience was the great book of recommendations that the hosts left for us. We did almost everything in their book and loved it all. Restaurants recommended to a hike in the mountains. All really great. Thanks Marie, you made this trip a memorable one for all of us. Sue - Chicago"

  • A misture of Mexican and American: Spacious, Comfortable with Great Outdoor Spaces

"Two of us spent over 6 weeks here during the winter of 2014. The house was spacious- we enjoyed having two separate living rooms, one on each floor. Watching the traffic flow well below us as it curled along around the Embajadores area at night was a wonderful view from the second floor. During the day being able to see so much of the city in three and four directions -below us and over across Gunajuato's many hills- from the second and third floors was a continuously interesting sight. The majority of furniture in the house is American and the many fans throughout the property were appreciated on warm days and evenings. We found the way up to the house from Sangre de Cristo Street, starting at the old fountain, was our preferred route to the house. A choice of out door spaces was appreciated but we mostly used the covered terrace on the second floor as we liked the views and the protection from the direct (and sometimes hot) sun during the mid day. At times we found the trek up the many steps a bit tedious (with too much luggage!) but this is Guanajuato and you get the views as your reward! Tracey, the owner, was very responsive and helpful in addressing our questions, needs and issues that arose and needs. There is so much to recommend GTO in the winter- the symphony, the concerts at Don Quixote, and Museo Gene Byron, plus the galleries, the interesting architecture and the "Lego building blocks" of the houses tumbling down the art and the various galleries."

  • Excelent house for big families

"Our staying in Casa Verde was very pleasant, we where 8 adults and 2 kids and the space was more than sufficient, the view is lovely, the utilities and furniture where more than enough, you will not need anything more than groceries. Wifi works perfectly, as well as the kitchen appliances. Even though we were 10 people trying to get ready at the same time, we never run out of hot water. We used the washer and dryer machines and both works perfectly. The only observation is that there are electrical voltage variations (due to city standards or electrical infrastucture) so keep in mind to bring a surge protector in case you are bringing special electronics such as computers, just to be safe. We definetly recommend it and will be our 1st choice on our next visit to Guanajuato."
