  • A wonderful vacation

"Perfect location a block from the Jardin (plaza). A spacious colonial home which has kept its authentic charm rather than be remodeled to fit some decorator's concept of magazine perfection. Yet the house has enough modern amenities for comfort, including heaters in every room for these cold November nights. Our one recommendation - please upgrade the beds. Our king bed in the main bedroom was so stiff and hard that we joked that they were the stone platforms from the pyramids."

  • Stay in San Miguel over the holidays

"Overall, Casa Adriana is a good place to stay in San Miguel de Allende. It is fairly close to the downtown shops and several good places to eat. Walking straight down Calle Orizaba takes one to the beginning of all the shops in about 10 minutes. The main square is, roughly, a five minute walk from there. The house itself it quite beautiful, Very well cared for and clean. The beds are comfortable and the kitchen is very well equipped (no dishwasher, though, Juanita would clean the dishes if asked). She (Juanita) did a very good job of keeping the entire house clean. She was very responsible in her work (and very friendly as well). A few caveats on our stay. First, there are very noisy and problematic neighbors on the Calle San Felipe side of the house (directly outside the gated complex). The noise is pretty consistent; especially on the weekends. On New Years Eve/New Years Day they sang so loudly, over a loudspeaker, as to make sleep nearly impossible without earplugs. They did so all night long until about 7 in the morning. These same neighbors were also consistently drinking outside of the main gate to the property. One night when we came back from eating dinner, more than 15 men were outside drinking and it appeared there may have been a fight. Leaving through the door on the Calle Orizaba side is definitely preferable (it avoids the drinking men altogether), but if one is driving, that is not possible. They were never aggressive with us. We'd say "buenas noches" to them and they would respectfully respond. So, no serious problems, just the noise. To let you know, I'm not some "scared" Gringo who is not familiar with Mexico. My wife and step-son are both from Mexico and I've been to many different Mexican cities in the past 15 years (including working in the slums of Juarez). The neighbors not scary, just a kind of a pain. Second, there was a noticeable odor of sewage in the full bath downstairs. Nothing overpowering, but definitely noticeable. Lastly, please be aware that Casa Adriana is not a home designed for small children. We have a 21-month old and there are many things which we had to place out of her reach (or simply stop her from grabbing). In general, I'd say the home is fine for families with kids about 7-years-old, or so, and up. Overall, I would recommend Casa Adriana as a good place to stay. The good certainly outweighs the bad. Just be aware of the neighbor issues."

  • Outstanding!

"We just left Casa Harriette after a glorious week in San Miguel. The large house is beautifully decorated and very well maintained. The bedrooms are all spacious and comfortable (each with their own good sized bath), the kitchen is well equipped and there is lots of room to relax in the main living areas. And then there's the fantastic rooftop garden with gorgeous views of the entire city. The homes central location is ideal and a short, easy walk to the center of town and many restaurants, shops, parks and attractions. The staff, Maria and Jose, were wonderful and took such good care of us (and Maria is a fantastic cook!). Our only regret is that we couldn't stay another week. We can't wait to return to Casa Harriette."

  • Relaxing retreat, centro as it gets.

"We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at SonjoWasi. The historic garden property is located in centro San Miguel, very close to the beautiful Parque Benito Juárez and the new Rosewood Hotel and Spa. Many wonderful things to see and do are within easy walking distance, such as the Instituto Allende, Tianguis Orgánico Saturday market, and so on. Villa staff members took very good care of us, and made us feel right at home, esp., preparing home cooked Mexican breakfasts and lunches, helping with our laundry, calling taxis, and so forth. A modern Peruvian restaurant called La Parada, is located conveniently just outside of the villa gates. To conclude, we absolutely enjoyed our sojourn at SonjoWasi, and we totally recommend it."
