"My husband and I, along with two other couples, had the privilege of renting this lovely home during the month of February, 2015. The house is beautifully decorated and pleasing to the eye from all angles. There is a lot of light due to large windows and doors, several leading to beautiful terraces and patios. Most of these have views of San Miguel, the center of which is only a 10 minute walk away! The 3 large master bedrooms, each with a full bath, made the house very well-suited for 3 couples, however, it would be good for families as well. As described, there is one big hill to climb to reach the house from the center, but we all got used to it, and actually enjoyed the exercise. The view and accommodations were so worth it! There are two staff people who work at the house. First is Margarita who is a warm, welcoming hostess who is eager to improve her English, but at the same time, is a very patient teacher of Spanish. She is an incredible cook, and will give you a list of her favorite dishes to prepare. We gave her money for food for some special meals, then enjoyed the delicious aromas, tastes and presentation. Cruz is a gardener extraordinaire. He comes daily for several hours to tend to the dozens of potted flowers and plants that adorn the terraces. He is a gentle soul with a very green thumb. SMA is a lovely town, and staying in this house was the perfect complement to our stay there."

"My wife and I came down for a long fiesta weekend. We wanted to be close to the Jardin (center of action) yet have a great view and be in a real Mexican neighborhood a bit set away from the hustle and bustle. Casa Joya is perfectly situated so that you don't feel like it's a chore to stroll to the Jardin for a coffee or to run back and pick up that vase you couldn't decide on getting earlier.
The house itself is set behind tall walls that give you total privacy and a sense of intimacy. Yet climb the stairs to the sala and you are greeted with a view of the town and the mountains beyond. It was too easy to fall asleep on the terrace to the sound of the church bells below.
One night we didn't have the energy and asked the housekeeper to prepare some enchiladas and salad for us. We counted this among our best meals, despite eating extremely well at the many restaurants. In addition, having laundry service meant that we packed less clothes and were easily able to carry on, saving time at the airport.
We loved the airy, modern design that is totally in keeping with the colonial spirit of San Miguel."

"We spent a month in this apartment and it has everything you need. Best of all is the remarkable view of San Miguel from the rooftop. It is a lovely property and we spent an incredible month exploring the area and the state of Guanajuato. If planning to visit here, I highly recommend John and Sharon's San Miguel home."

"I spent two weeks in this beautiful home along with my two sisters and it was a magical experience. First of all, the house is just stunning. It is flooded with natural light and at every turn, there is another beautiful piece of art or native artifact to enjoy. All our beds were super comfy, the linens and towels are luxury quality. The owner (who is delightful by the way) seems to have anticipated your every need with hair dryers and robes in every bathroom, a fully stocked kitchen, maps and informational materials, a great library -- even a bucket of umbrellas at the door. I told her next time, I won't bother to pack! It was all there!
The location is perfect -- steps away from the 5-star Rosewood and Matilda hotels/restaurants, the most beautiful park in town and just a few blocks from the Jardin. There are three levels of flowered patios and terraces with the top ones yielding breath-taking views in all directions. I watched a full lunar eclipse from the top terrace. Magic!
We hosted a dinner for friends on the patio one evening, all authentic local cuisine prepared by Maria, the housekeeper/chef. I have saved the best for last; that's the staff. Jose keeps the gardens in pristine condition, every flower pot is watered, every fallen leaf removed. He even fixed my broken eye glasses. And there is a good reason everyone tries to steal Maria. That woman can cook and seems to love doing it. She just couldn't do enough for us -- laundry, grocery shopping, making beds and keeping the house clean with fresh flower bouquets everywhere. I've rented homes in SMA for nearly 35 years. This was the best one by far. Can't wait to go back and next time it will be for more than two weeks."
