  • Great home away from home

"San Miguel has become our second home of the heart and Casa Esteban is a large part of that experience. We have now enjoyed two stays in this Casa, each well over 2 months in duration. The setup of the house is as good as it gets. The master bedroom is on the first floor and has a fountain and enclosed garden just outside its doors. It also has double sinks in the en suite bathroom. The other bedroom/bath is on the second floor, along with the TV/office room, so guests have a sense of privacy. Sun pours into the office all afternoon in the winter. Both the first floor garden and the rooftop gardens are places that invite use. They are both kept perfectly groomed. The large couches on the roof are almost too comfortable. ;-) We enjoy cooking for friends and the kitchen is well equipped to do that. The dining table easily sits 5 or 6 persons. All of the lighting in the casually elegant living areas is on rheostats, providing a warm evening ambiance. The sound system accepts your iPod. And the fountain outside the living area doors provides great background music. Kudos to Lupe, the housekeeper, and Norma, the property manager, who keep the house in tip-top condition. All requests are dealt with professionally and quickly. The owners are good about everything. We look forward to our future visits!"

  • Can we come back yet?

"Hard to know what to write in a review for a place that is an integral part of what was a life-changing experience for our family. "Casa Azul," as it is known to us, is really a wonderful space, in a wonderful neighborhood, in a magical town. The casita/studio is larger than it appears in the pictures, and a lovely and functional space. The downstairs bedroom in the other house was perfect for our two boys to share; they are 2 and 5. And the upstairs bedroom was a perfect area for us. The courtyard was quaint and the large tree, garden and bougainvillea, complete with hummingbirds, make it lush and popping with color. And finally, the rooftop terrace was a perfect way to get some sunshine in the afternoon and see fireworks in the evening all over the city. The stairs leading to the rooftop are not for the faint of heart or for the non-sober. The neighborhood is a functioning Mexican neighborhood, which is just what we wanted. It is mixed with Ex-pats, families, businesses. The neighbor on one side runs a hardware store and opens early. And he was very friendly to us and our boys, as we're the neighbor family on the other side, the owners of the tortilleria, the convenience store and the wonderful fruteria a couple blocks away. These folks were kind to us, practiced their English as we practiced our Spanish, and we know their names and miss them! Best of all is the Spanish School on Orizaba (Josephina's School), a five minute walk away (15 if you're walking with a toddler). The teachers there were amazing, and if you're looking for Spanish classes of any level, they're really top notch. Also of note, as this review gets longer, were the excellent property manager and house keeper. The property managers were extremely helpful, efficient, and very professional. And the housekeeper was a gem. We would see them as we walked sometimes in the neighborhood, too. San Miguel is an amazing place, and Casa Azul was perfect! Thanks so much, Susan and Marc!"

  • A warm, friendly home

"My husband and I stayed at this beautiful property for about two weeks and would definitely consider staying here again. When we arrived, we met Isabel, the housekeeper here, who is a very special woman and very helpful. We also found that the owners had stocked the refrigerator with eggs, bread, milk and butter so we could have a meal before we were able to go shopping. We ate many of our dinners in the house. The kitchen is well set up for dining in. In the evenings, we loved to sit near the fire, listen to music, and read or play a game. There are three floors. We chose the bedroom on the top floor as it was larger and had a nice terrace where we could sit outside and enjoy the view and the sun in the morning and shade later on. When there was any question for the owners, they answered immediately. The walk into the central part of town was an easy one, and the casa was close to the Institute Allende and some of the restaurants where we had excellent meals, such as Hecho in Mexico. There is so much going on in town at all times. One day we took the House and Garden tour from the Biblioteca(library), later after a wonderful lunch, we tried to catch a concert given by a Russian pianist, and later saw an amazing jazz concert at the Peralta theater. If you love life and beautiful things, you will love San Miguel."

  • Location, location, location!

"A beautiful condo in a truly unique place. San Miguel can be enjoyed so much better as a pedestrian; We parked the car and didn't start it for the entire week. Decorated in a wonderfully eclectic style, comfortable bed, a truly nice place to stay."
