"4 couples stayed here on a trip to see the Monarch Butterfly Sanctuary nearby. The house is high on a hill with a fantastic view of the lake and town of Valle de Bravo from every room. Caretakers Iris and Benecio (who live on the property) were very gracious and helpful for all our needs. Iris bought groceries for us and cooked dinner for us 1 night, although we chose to eat out most of the time at the many wonderful restaurants in Valle. The 4 bedrooms are very comfortable, although one is primarily for children with bunk beds and 2 twin beds in a small room behind the bunk room. The master suite is 2 flights of stairs down from the main level and the 3 other bedrooms are 2 more flights down (a total of 53 steps) so beware if you have bad knees or walking problems. All floors are tiled, so you have to be careful about slipping. It was a bit of a challenge for some of us, but after the first few days, we seemed to adjust better to climbing the stairs. Good exercise! The pool (not heated) was another 2 levels below the bedrooms (total of 105 steps!) but we managed to make it down there once to sit around the pool in the lounge chairs. Fun to walk down the hill into town, but take a taxi back up to the house! Taxi is only 30 pesos ($2 US) each way and can take 4 people. The town of Valle de Bravo is a Pueblo Magico (Magical Town) designated by the Mexican government as an especially beautiful, quaint place to visit and it lives up to its designation with narrow cobblestone streets, all white with red tile roof buildings, a beautiful lake surrounded by mountains, waterfalls, and best of all the Piedra Herrada Monarch Butterfly Sanctuary just about 15-20 minutes outside of town. We were lucky to visit it on a sunny day so the monarchs would burst from their clusters on the trees and fly around in the mid-day sun. An amazing sight! Best to go around 10:30-11 am and be at the top of the mt. (2 kilometer hike) around noon or 1 pm when the sun is high in the sky. The walk up the mt. is steep and strenuous so I recommend hiring a horse for 150 pesos ($10). I thought I could walk it, but after a short distance, I opted for the horse. Walking back down was fun, though, if you don't want to take the horse again. All in all, the home was very comfortable and accommodating for all 8 of us. We had a little problem with the hot water the first day, but Benecio got things working. Have to let water run awhile to get hot in the lower bedroom showers."
