  • Convenient oasis!

"What a lovely, peaceful, well-appointed home away from home! We enjoyed the front patio each morning for coffee and the mirador each evening for a view of the city lights and the cool breezes. The house is clean and well-looked after by Nicolasa, who also did a bit of ironing for us. Don't forget to pay her extra for those tasks. Transportation was available just outside the front door either by local autobus (a 5 peso ride to el centro) or by taxis that pass by frequently. It is also a not-too strenuous walk up to el jardín from San Antonio. The house is well- located to the Instituto as well as local restaurants and Farmacia Guadalajara where you can get almost anything you might need. I would highly recommend the property to couples, single ladies (felt very secure)...great for an extended stay. We would definitely stay here again!"

  • The Perfect Oasis In a Perfect Holiday

"We recently spent a wonderful month in San Miguel de Allende based at the wonderful Casa Madelan. The city was exciting, busy, colourful and full of festivities and activities. The house by contrast was an oasis of peace and quiet and gracious indoor/outdoor living. Home owners Alan and Madeline have thought of everything. Three ensuite bedrooms with spaces to sit and read or write and rest ensured we and our guests were happily ensconced in our own comfortable digs. The shared spaces such as the beautiful central courtyard with lush vines and plants and fountain, the rooftop sala with ample seating and BBQ and satellite kitchen area, and the beautifully decorated and comfortable living room / dining room made communal gatherings a joy. At any point in the day we could choose between a lovely patch of sun or cool comfortable shade outside. The interior was beautifully lit with large windows letting in natural indirect light; and lots of thoughtfully designed interior and exterior lighting made every space beautiful and comfortable day and night. The main kitchen was well equipped and easy to work in and shopping at nearby markets, bakeries, butchers and grocers for fresh local ingredients for our meals was really fun. We also had a great time discovering local restaurants and cafes. We were walking distance to everything in the centro historico area and much beyond. When we tuckered out or it was getting late we just jumped into a taxi. We took in films, museums, concerts, markets, galleries and studios, and even took part in local volunteer activities. The neighborhood felt comfortable and safe and we enjoyed meeting the family who ran a little shop steps from our door where we bought water and anything we were running short of. The property manager Erika was very warm and helpful and it was great to know she was there when we needed her. Margarita came three times a week to clean and take care of the garden. She was very pleasant, efficient and thorough. Allan and Madeline’s passion for great design and comfort and for the magic of SMA was evident in every communication. Our San Miguel holiday was a perfect mix of activity and rest. Our stay at Casa Madelan was nothing short of wonderful! We felt extremely well taken care of and soul nurtured by all involved including San Miguel de Allende. We would love to return!"

  • More than expected

"The house was only on a high hill overlooking the city. The view is as everyone described. The owner has taken time to decorate the house with a flavor of old Mexico and it felt as if you had stepped back in time but with all the modern conveniences. The most wonderful part of the house was Juana who gave us Spanish lessons and made us feel welcome."

  • We will return

"We recently spent six weeks at Casa Garza after previously staying there for four weeks. We like the location for the lack of traffic, view, and typical breeze. It really is just a 10- 12 minute walk down the hill to the Jardin. Returning took us a bit longer as it is up hill, but we usually liked the exercise. The location is also handy to Parque Juarez, a delightful park with a variety of interesting activities. The 3rd floor master bedroom has nearly a full wall of windows facing west over a small balcony that is a comfortable place to read or catch up on email. The wifi works well throughout the house. The kitchen is well equipped. The TV cable package includes several English stations including PBS. The new clothes washer is a handy addition, but you do need to take down the sheets and towels after Anna has hung them up to dry. The ground floor bedroom allowed us to invite friends to stay with us. The first and second floors only have windows in the east facing doors. The owner provides a 12 page booklet of information after you sign a pleasingly short rental agreement. Anna is helpful with getting water delivered and Paula is very responsive regarding property concerns. We hope to return in the future."

Getting to Central Mexico Vacation Houses

The main access point to the central region of Mexico is through the capital Mexico City. The Benito Juarez International Airport is located in Mexico City. It is one of Central America’s busiest airports and its expansion has only been hampered by the fact that it is surrounded by residential and commercial property. A secondary airport is the Toluca airport which handles domestic and private charter flights. The Mexico City Airport hosts most major North and South American carriers. There are regularly scheduled flights that operate daily between Mexico City and destinations such as Houston, Atlanta, Miami, Las Vegas and Dallas. If traveling from other parts of the United States or Canada, you can route via any one of these major hubs. A bus terminal located outside the airport provides public transportation to other parts of Mexico City. If you plan to explore further afield, it may be a good idea to hire a car for the duration of your stay.
