  • Lovely home away from home

"I enjoy this part of San Miguel, by the Ancha and parts south. The surrounding area has many activities within walking distance. The neighborhood is safe, and a close walk to the neighborhood church and it's park setting. Fairly noisy, but that is the beauty of living in a local neighborhood. It's something that you get used to. I opened the door one day and a horse was tethered just across the street with the rider dismounting...gotta love Mexico! The home has been lovingly restored, the furniture is comfortable, the kitchen well equipped with a large refrigerator and all the pots/pans necessary for creating family meals, if you choose to cook. But, there are so many wonderful, inexpensive restaurants within walking distance..why bother? And most importantly, the home is kept clean by a dedicated and sweet housekeeper Christina. A gardener also comes 2x a week to keep the flowers/leaves swept and the fountain & patio area clean. Lots and lots of potted plants and greenery create a very tropical and relaxing atmosphere. There is a balcony off the master bedroom, but it isn't really private as you walk past it to access the front bedroom and the rooftop patio. Access to the rooftop is up a very steep set of off-set steps and might be difficult for someone with a fear of heights and/or people not able to negotiate steep steps, but there are sturdy handrails to use. There were three, comfy lounge chairs and a table with four chairs/2 umbrellas on the roof top deck. We loved watching the sunset at night and the view of the neighborhood church, lit up at night is magical. No view of the Parroquia, but the nighttime sky and stars are special. Flor, the house manager is a very special person and part of the house's charm. She takes care of any problems that might happen (internet/phones were spotty on our visit) with a quiet professionalism. Never did the phone situation handled, but vacation isn't a time for all that anyway. There are many WIFI cafes within walking distance as well, so grab a cup of coffee and make some new friends."

  • Magical Home in a Magical City

"We just returned from a glorious week’s stay at Casa del Encanto. This was our first trip to San Miguel and I cannot imagine a more perfect spot from which to explore this magical city. From our initial inquiry, contact/information from the owners was quick, thorough and very helpful. As the previous reviewer indicated, the photos do not do this property justice. It is incredibly comfortable, beautifully appointed and perfectly situated for a stay in SMA. Graciela, the housekeeper, helped make our visit memorable. She made delicious breakfasts for us each day—varied in content and always ready at the time desired. It really is less than 10 minutes walk to the Jardin—the epicenter of all activity in town. There seemed to be some live music there every time we arrived. The home, with three bedrooms, each with its own bathroom, is perfectly suited to couples/friends traveling together. Additionally, the various sitting rooms and sala, as well as the incomparable courtyard (with fireplace!), means that there’s always a private space when you want to ‘be alone’. The rooftop is ideal for viewing magnificent sunsets and the frequent displays of fireworks. The owners have clearly taken great care in furnishing and decorating this beautiful home. You really do feel like you are visiting friends. We would not look at another property if/when we return to San Miguel."

  • Terrific place and wonderful hosts!

"Casa Caracol is a terrific place - in fact perfect for us. We were two couples traveling together and there was plenty of room for all of us. The bedrooms are separated enough that there is plenty of privacy. The kitchen is well equipped - we made breakfast most days and made snacks in the afternoons and we had sufficient kitchen equipment and dishware with no trouble. We did not cook full meals, but we easily could have. Purified water is supplied, which is nice. The list of amenities is long and added up really make the experience of staying here special. They include: -Spotlessly clean! -good wifi throughout -beautiful terrace with table, chairs, and hammock -fully loaded iPod and speakers for music -Charming decoration -UNLIMITED hot water - great for four people staying together! -lists of ideas for restaurants and activities -grocery store and fresh fruit and vegetable market nearby -very close to main square I highly recommend Casa Caracol! We will stay there again on our next trip to Guanajuato!"

Getting to Central Mexico Vacation Houses

The main access point to the central region of Mexico is through the capital Mexico City. The Benito Juarez International Airport is located in Mexico City. It is one of Central America’s busiest airports and its expansion has only been hampered by the fact that it is surrounded by residential and commercial property. A secondary airport is the Toluca airport which handles domestic and private charter flights. The Mexico City Airport hosts most major North and South American carriers. There are regularly scheduled flights that operate daily between Mexico City and destinations such as Houston, Atlanta, Miami, Las Vegas and Dallas. If traveling from other parts of the United States or Canada, you can route via any one of these major hubs. A bus terminal located outside the airport provides public transportation to other parts of Mexico City. If you plan to explore further afield, it may be a good idea to hire a car for the duration of your stay.
