  • Amazing Family Vacation

"The location of the property is amazing...the views are unbelievable. Other than the bungalow on the beach needing some maintenance/repairs, the place is awesome. My kids didn't want to leave. My wife wanted to take the staff home with us...Hugo and his crew are that good. The meals they prepared were unbelievable. Can't wait to come back!"

  • Seven Years of Bliss & Relaxation

"Like many others, we return to Casa del Sol y La Luna every year and generally plan our next trip sitting in the Palapa, enjoying our first Pablo-rita, watching the sunset, while our kids devour Rosa's salsa and guacamole with Pablo's homemade chips. On our first visits, we had kids in pack-n-play cribs and we now have teenagers and all of them DEMAND that we return each year. For parents, having Pablo and Rosa take care of our every need, from cooking to cleaning, to laundry, which means that everyone is relaxed all week. It's my wife's favorite vacation because she truly gets downtime with none of her "usual" responsibilities and she's catered to daily (as she should be!) And I'm happy because we shop at the grocery store with Pablo and get the most authentic, delicious Mexican food on the planet without paying restaurant prices! Same for the hundreds of margaritas we consume all week. After all these years, we learned to never eat out on this vacation - nothing beats Pablo and Rosa's food. If you're interested in activities, there's nearby surfing, tennis, the private beach, eco-tours, fishing, etc. Or you can just lounge by the pool. We've already booked our next trip..."

  • Great value for the money!

"We stayed here for a week and the place is great! Everything you might need to cook meals at the condo was available (excluding the food). Bed was comfortable. Everyone was friendly and helpful. The only drawback was no cable TV but if that isn't important this is the place for you! Ant problem but I think this is prevalent anywhere in this region. Crabs come out in the evening everywhere. Don't leave any doors or windows open cause they will come in the condo. Mangers were friendly and helpful. Would recommend having a car available since it is a ways from town."

Colima Travel Tips

Visiting Colima Vacation Rentals

Colima is a small state located on Mexico's Riviera. It covers an area of only 2,004 square miles and is bordered by the states of Jalisco to the north and west and Michoacan to the east. Within the state, there are two major cities that attract visitors. Manzanillo is well known tourist resort area located on a beautiful stretch of coastline. It is also a major shipping port on Mexico's Pacific coast. Sixty-one miles inland from Manzanillo you will find the state capital of Colima which shares the same name and is the largest city in the state. The beautiful historic city was founded in the early 1500s and boasts some spectacular colonial architecture.

Travelling to Colima Vacation Rentals

The Colima regional airport known as the Miguel de la Madrid Airport is located approximately 12 kilometers from Colima's city center. International flights connect via Mexico City to most major hubs in North America. Some international Airlines fly directly into Colima. Manzanillo Airport is located just outside of the city off Highway 200. There is a regional bus service in Colima but you may want to consider renting a car or simply using local taxis to get around.

The Best Time of Year to Visit Colima

Located within the tropics, Colima has a warm climate year-round. In July and August it can be particularly hot and humid but it is still a popular summer vacation destination for travelers from North America. The region has summer rainfall and these are usually characterized by late afternoon or evening showers once or twice a week. The rain brings a welcome respite from the heat and transforms the landscape to a vibrant green. Unfortunately, Colima does lie within the hurricane belt and storms can occur in the later summer months. For sun lovers, Colima's coastal resorts can provide a balmy mid-winter break where you can get away from the snow and catch a tan, even in December.

Places to Visit From Colima Vacation Houses

To the north of Colima are two impressive volcanoes which are collectively known as Volcan de Colima. These two peaks are Volcan de Fuego which is at an altitude of 3,980 meters. It is the more active volcano. The Nevado de Colima is a snow-capped 4,323-meter peak. Volcan de Fuego is located approximately 60 miles northeast of Manzanillo and is considered to be one of Mexico's most dangerous volcanoes as it became increasingly active between 1999 and 2005. There have been few major eruptions since but the peak is closely monitored by the University of Colima.

On the way to visit the volcanoes, it's a worthwile experience to make a stop in the small town of Comala. There is a quaint church and beautiful garden on one side of the main road; on the other side is a collection of outdoor cafés. Stop here for a drink and you may get to sample some of the local cuisine as provided by the Los Portales.

Within the city of Colima and Manzanillo, there are several interesting museums. The museums are open weekdays and showcase exhibits that range from cultural artifacts to spectacular photo collections and human rights themes. You can also view the works of local artists at galleries and browse the many stores for souvenirs. Just outside of the city of Colima is the La Campana Archeological Zone. This is a small archeological dig site that is slowly being restored.

Near Colima condos, there are many outdoor activities to be enjoyed. The coastal resort city of Manzanillo has spectacularly beautiful beaches and is reputed to be one of the safest destinations in Mexico. Enjoy diving, snorkeling, surfing and cruising or simply relax on the powdery white sands. Inland from Manzanillo there are rock pools, lakes and lagoons that are great for paddling, kayaking and swimming.
