  • Our New Favorite Place in Mexico

"We have a new favorite place in Mexico. My wife and I have been traveling in Mexican beach towns for over 20 years. From Akumal, Playa del Carmen, Sayulita, Barra de Navidad, Cabo & a few more. Prior to this trip I would have told you that Sayulita was the place. We've been there about ten times starting in 1994. But Zihua tops them. You have to like Mexico. That includes walking through some dusty streets with some rumbling trucks & the occasional stray mutt. But it also means the charm of Mexico. The smells of street side restaurants & the feel of warm breezes rustling the palm trees & great beaches. Zihua is a big enough town that spreads out behind Playa Principale. More than adequate shopping without the high prices of a Playa del Carmen and a great variety of restaurant choices. Yet, it's small enough that you can explore it all easily. Be sure to take a morning & visit the local mercado in the town. Indescribably fun! Playa la Madera, where this condo is located, is more of a locals beach. Not too many tourists and very welcoming. The three or four "restaurants" on the beach are friendly & cheap - with the exception of Bistro del Mar, a bit more high end but worth a visit. The condos location is perfect. A short walk to town or short hike over to Playa la Ropa. I think that people who stay at la Ropa tend to stay there because it is a longer walk/hike to town. Or a short taxi ride, but still... The condo itself is well acquainted. Although it's a two bedroom unit it would be best for a couple (upstairs suite) and kids (downstairs bedroom) as there is not a lot of private space once you're there. To go with another couple we would look into renting this place along with the place next-door as the two can be connected via a door that is locked otherwise. The condo is beautifully wide open with panoramic views of the bay of Zihuatanejo. The kitchen is small but adequate to prep small meals. Favorites: "Patio Mexica" cooking school; Rufo's for dinner (same spot, different managements); sunset cocktails at any of the places up on the hill leading to la Ropa; fish tacos at Playa las Gatas; the mercado in la centro; watching the schools of fish jump on Playa la Madera & watching the sea birds dive into the schools for dinner. Rick & Suzette were really accommodating and helpful with our planning. They have great recommendations for eating & shopping and exploring. Muchas gracias!"

  • On Top of the World in Zihua

"This place and our experience was so unique. I agree with all the other reviewers - including the fact the pictures don't do it justice. I will only add that this spacious condo property honestly boasts literally the BEST-in-town jaw-dropping - almost 360 degree - views. It is perched at the highest point atop a steep hill in a highly secure gated community on the south side of Zihua. This hillside is dotted with several high end boutique condos/hotels and restaurants perched cliff-side. The ones we explored had really unique upscale decor and again those views .... When we chose to walk to a couple of restaurants security guards even provided us portable lighting when we strolled past dark. I never felt safer. If you want more than your ultra-private, albeit small infinity plunge pool at the foot of your bed, you can just walk a short distance down the hill to a quaint boutique hotel with a large infinity pool and more of said ridiculously amazing views for all day use with the purchase of a meal poolside. A more rigorous walk is to Los Gatos Beach - a funky small local beach dotted with side-by-side Mex style cafes. I watched a local bring a net of oysters out of the water and I ate them tastefully presented 5 minutes later. From this beach, taking the always available little ferry boats across the bay to downtown Zihua is the best way to explore this cute fishing town with a talented music scene. The driver and property manager were very helpful and a phone call away. Thanks to our driver we explored a UNESCO World Heritage site and enjoyed other interesting spots off the beaten track south of Zihua that we otherwise would not have found wandering on our own. Ixtapa borders Zihuatenejo on the north side of town. It is a more typically touristy small Mexican city that we chose to avoid but it's a short drive away if you want more nightlife and shopping."

  • Casa Linda-A bit of heaven on earth.

"It's hard to put into words what this property is about. It sits on a rock outcropping allowing breathtaking views of the Pacific and the city of Zihuatenajo. We watched whales and dolphins from the pool. (bring binoculars!) We enjoyed the comfortable and beautiful layout of the home itself. My son in law put it perfectly-it has a WOW factor when you first walk in-and that never goes away. It has all the amentities. You don't have to fight for a chair around your private pool. It is secure in a gated community. It is less than 5 minutes by car to the centro with wonderful restaurants and shops. Linda warned us the first time we traveled to Zihau that we'd fall in love. We have. Perfect is a pretty strong word but actually fits Casa Linda and Zihau. We will be back."
