Always agree on a fare before getting inside. In addition to taxis, there are buses that make many stops in and around town. There is no need to be at a bus stop to catch a ride, just wave at the driver and he will stop! The buses have been privatized and each is owned by the driver. Buses compete for passengers which makes for an exciting ride.

What not to Miss Around Guerrero

Staying at Guerrero, Mexico vacation rentals almost demands that you witness the cliff divers at La Quebrada. These fearless adventurers take a 150-foot plunge off the cliff into the deep blue sea. This is not for the faint of heart so if you fear heights, you might want to look away! You will also want to explore the surrounding towns of Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo which offer beautiful beaches as well as a modern port. Taxco, another nearby town, is famous for its arts and crafts, particularly silver jewelry. On your way, check out the splendid architecture of the Santa Prisca church and other old buildings. While in the Taxco area, do not miss Cacahuamilpa Caverns, some of the most gorgeous in the world. If you like cave-diving, this is the spot for you!

Other Things to Do

While in Guerrero, do your best to make it to Zocalo, Acapulco’s town square. It lies on the western side of La Costera and is cool, shady, and peaceful. While in Zocalo, you will definitely get a taste for local culture along the tree-lined paths. It is filled with bistros, restaurants, and street vendors selling local fare. There is also plenty of street entertainment. For a change of pace from the partying and beaches, you will also want to check out Pie de la Cuesta which is to the northwest. It is bordered by the Pacific Ocean and the freshwater Laguna de Cuyoca. Also, your trip to Guerrero will be incomplete without a day at Isla de la Roqueta. It has a beautiful beach with shallow areas which is perfect for families with small children. Take a glass-bottomed harbor boat tour around the area to see the region’s underwater glory.
