"We stayed in this house for most of July and enjoyed it thoroughly. The house feels very new and was very well-appointed with just about every convenience you'd want...blender, toaster, microwave, plenty of cookware, glassware, and dishware, dishwasher, washer and dryer, plenty of fluffy towels.
The owner and her brother, who lives nearby and is quickly available to help if you need him, are very conscientious about providing you a good stay. We had an incident on a Sunday afternoon where a power surge blew out the microwave and, right afterwards, the electricity, and he came right away. There was no way to get it fixed on a Sunday, but he arranged to have the electricity repaired by Monday morning. We were leaving overnight that day anyway, but when we returned Monday afternoon, everything was fixed and there was a new microwave.
A gardener and a pool guy come every week, so the grounds are well-kept. The pool is small, but great for cooling off in the late afternoon with a beautiful view of the mountain behind the house. It it also very private, especially if the second house on the property is unoccupied.
The house is a little out of the way for those without a car, but the bus stop is a two-minute walk away. We didn't take the bus, but they look nice and are very frequent. There is a 7-11 close by for morning coffee, a couple of eateries, and an interesting consignment shop. Those who really like to walk -- or perhaps walk one way into town and taxi back to the house -- or who don't mind taking the bus will not really need a car. That said, if you are used to having a car, you may want to keep one there; parking is easy and secure right next to the house. And while I'm not sure about how to rent a bicycle in the area, biking would be a great way to go because of the bike path that runs along the highway from Chapala to Ajijic and beyond.
The neighborhood seemed pretty quiet except for the dogs, as someone mentioned. There was some barking at night, but it seemed rather typical to me. A dog hears some noise and balls, another starts to bark, and so on...and a couple minutes later they stop. In cooler months with windows closed, you wouldn't notice much. It was rainy when we were there so we did not have the dust another reviewer spoke of, and while some vacant lots had a little trash here and there, it wasn't bad. The area is not plush, but it was fine.
I'm out of room now, so I'll close by saying we loved this house!"
