  • Vacation at Casa Kikillia

"Wow, what a perfect get-away vacation. You're just far enough away from Puerto Escondido to feel like you're in the middle of nowhere, but close enough for all the amenities! We had everything we needed as far as sleeping arrangements. There were three of us. I love the bathrooms which are spacious and open with shelves and hanging space for everything you bring. I also really enjoyed being close enough to the beach to hear the waves all night, but enough yards away to hear the birds in the morning. Loved exploring and seeing all the different plants and animals and walking or having a picnic on the beach. There were some mosquitoes, but only for a short time at dawn and dusk. I had almost no bites...got a lot more when I went home than at Casa Kikillia! Definitely a unique experience with the kitchen/palapa separate from the sleeping structure. I loved hanging out on the cushions under the palapa to read or just feel the breeze on my face while sipping lemonade! The kitchen has everything you could need for cooking from pots and pans, microwave, stove, frig, utensils...you name it. The stress-free place for a little R&R. I'd go back every summer if I could!"

  • Relaxing Escape

"Delightful home two lots up from the beach. The owners are very easy to deal with, and answered any questions we had. The main living area of the home is small, but we were outside almost all the time, enjoying the lanai by the beautiful pool, as well as the roof top deck. Comfortable beds in the bedroom, and nice big thick towels for the bath and beach made us feel at home. The kitchen is well equipped, and there is also laundry facilities. Great location for walking the beach, both to the main area of Zicatela, as well as La Punta. We found a car helpful for getting groceries, as well as exploring the surrounding area. There is a secure covered area to keep your car. The home is kept spotless by Eva, the housekeeper, and the grounds and pool are very well maintained. We would recommend this excellent property to anyone."

  • Paradise...really

"Our group of eight adults from two families had a fantastic week at Villa Lumina in early Jan. The house can accommodate many more... up to 14 people with couples using the double beds...but was perfect for our group, with plenty of space for everyone to lounge, read, and enjoy the pool and fantastic views out across the beach. Coming from northern climes we had a hard time believing that the open air living spaces (kitchen, eating and lounging areas) would be truly comfortable, especially at night in January, but we spent the week in T-shirts and shorts and slept under sheets with no need for blankets. A perfect climate. This video shows the interior: http://youtu.be/hE94u4aeGmk. The house is in a small gated community about 30 mins from the airport and Puerto Escondido itself. Because of that distance, we cooked dinners at home rather than venture out at night. Our week sped by, mostly spent lazing around the pool, wading in the surf and swimming in the pool, planning meals, enjoying sunsets and star-watching at night, all to the relaxing soundtrack of the surf. The house has wi-fi that worked reasonably well, along with a nice little library of paperbacks for those who finished the books they brought from home. Lupe, the caretaker, speaks no English but was very helpful, and Lucia, the housekeeper, was accommodating as well. Because we all love to cook, we chose not to pay the supplement to have a cook for the week. Lupe introduced us to Gloria when we requested a cooking lesson and market guide, and she rode with us to the market for a primer on ingredients and then back at the house whipped up lunch and left us with a ready-to-cook dinner. It feels churlish to note anything short of utter praise after such a relaxing week, but in the spirit of helping others have an even better time we note the following. It would be helpful to have a house book with guidance on where to get groceries, find markets and convenience stores, etc. Visitors should plan to rent a car or book a driver, and should be aware that you will need at least some basic Spanish. This is a lovely area that is experiencing rapid growth, with more likely to come in a couple of years once the highway now under construction reduces travel time from Oaxaca City to Puerto Escondido. In the meantime, tourist services can be pretty basic. But that should not stop you from visiting Villa Lumina. Go now."

  • Luxury, Tranquil, Beautiful

"Friends and family holiday at Casa Tres Azules did not disapoint us, from the moment we arrived until the time we left we felt welcomed by the amazing staff. Julio greeted us upon arrival with the keys etc but to tell you the truth we were so amazed at the property we really couldn't concentrate on what he was saying, it also helped that my daughter-in-law is from Oaxacca so the lanuguage wasn't an issue, we all changed and jumped into the 28 degree ocean. Nina arrived the next morning with groceries to start out our day and Philomena cooked us a very delightful breafkast. We are not needy people but anything you asked for Philomena was glad to do it, I tried doing dishes a few times and she wouldn't hear of it. Nina the property manager was a phone call away but we never had the need to call her and she respected out privacy. Katherine your book on Puerto Escondidos was very helpful with your recommendations, we ate out every other night inexpensice cab ride to town but make sure you call the cab an over before you want to go, (mexico time) lol. Your recommendation for Flor de Maria's restaurant was right on we planned to go there anyway as the owners are from Guelph Ontario and we know them, we were not disapointed. The view from the rooftop of Zicatela was stunning. Pacho the gardener a man of many talents can't do enough for you, he climped the palms and cut down fresh coconuts for us, built a fire on the beach, and kept the grounds immaculate, you can tell he takes pride in his job. Lastly Casa Tres Azules, we stayed 2 weeks and seriously I could have stayed until spring, the Casa is spotlessly clean, spacious and decorated very mexican style, between the beds being so comfortable and the sound of the ocean we all slept like babies, no need for a/c with the cool wind blowing in the bedrooms. We all had our own bedrooms facing the ocean. I would definetly recommend Casa Tres Azules and only hope we can return next year. Thank-you Katherin and Edward for sharing your Casa with us. Shirley Lewis, Hamilton , On. Canada."
