  • Cozy and Safe

"Three of stayed in this rental until July 31st. Property very clean and well maintained. Photos do not do it justice. Extremely bright inside and out and very safe. Location perfect for us. Very peaceful. Loved the smell of jasmine coming in through the open kitchen sliding windows as we washed dishes. Especially loved the floor to ceiling window that lit up at night to showcase beautiful foliage. Barry the owner a wealth of information and the cleaning woman an EXCELLENT cook. I will be recommending this rental to family and friends traveling to Oaxaca. My teenage daughter says she felt and home and had the best vacation ever!"

  • Perfect!

"We rented Casa Lily (middle unit) for a week in February with our 2 kids. We loved the cleanliness of the place and the property. It is located in a quiet neighbourhood one block away from Playa Zicatella and a 5 minute walk from the busy Zicatella area. Very convenient for breakfast as it is a block away from Dan's Café Deluxe, famous for its breakfasts and weekend only fish tacos. Further down at the end of Calle Jacarandas on the right, there is another little open air restaurant where we had several good meals. The Casa is tastefully decorated and conveniently equipped. But the highlight for us was the swimming pool. We planned our days to be back from the beach around 4pm to enjoy the pool and our kids pretty much learned to swim in it. We will definitely return next year."

  • Perfection. Location, Peace, Beauty, Service.

"Our family used three of the units - The Aguacate Casita, the Villa del Sol and the additional Acroiris room. All three were immaculate, with comfortable beds and and lovely decor. The entire villa is cleaned daily, but not intrusively. I stayed on after my family left, and as a woman alone in her 60's felt completely safe. I did like the extra sense of security I felt over renting an apartment. The location is ideal. Everything I needed was within walking distance. I took classes at Español Interactivo and it was a 10 minute walk. I would also recommend the school, for those who want to learn by speaking. The teachers have great patience for those like me who sound as if they are speaking with marbles in their mouths. The owner of the villa, Mary Jane, made our stay absolutely perfect. I am already planning a return in October."

Oaxaca Travel Tips

Staying in Oaxaca Vacation Rentals

Oaxaca is a city and region in southern Mexico. It is a delightfully cultural place to enjoy a vacation. The mountains and valleys in the area are home to a large population of Zapotec and Mixtec Indians and their pretty villages are well known for the beautiful crafts which they produce. The city of Oaxaca is a colonial city of plazas, courtyards and stone-built buildings. The surrounding area is dedicated to growing corn. High in the mountains is the ancient ceremonial center of Monte Alban, similar to the Mayan civilizations found elsewhere in Mexico. The region of Oaxaca also has a beautiful coastline with miles of sandy beaches.

Staying in a Oaxaca vacation rental is a very relaxing and easy way to enjoy a family vacation. A rental home gives more space than a standard hotel room, and a kitchen, cooking facilities and a full-size refrigerator are welcome amenities when catering for a family. Visiting the markets is just one of the local highlights, and it can be a great place to buy fresh fruit and vegetables, fish, tortillas and cheese for a cheap meal. Alternatively, use your rental home as a base and eat out at one of the reasonably priced restaurants nearby.

Condos in Oaxaca can be found within easy walking distance of the superb beaches. Enjoy beautiful views of the coastline or the mountainous backdrop, depending upon where you choose to stay. Vacation rentals can provide a quieter option for those looking for a relaxing vacation away from the bustling beachfront. With a vacation rental, the choice is yours!

Things to do Around Oaxaca

Oaxaca has some fabulous resorts along its coastline offering miles of sandy beaches, swimming and beach watersports including surfing. It is easy to rent a boat and go sea fishing or watch dolphins and turtles in the clear waters. A local traditional massage is a wonderful treatment, or try the temazcal vapor bath.

Most visitors enjoy exploring the area by car or bus. Tours can be booked to the main sightseeing locations. The area is also pleasant for hiking and cycling, particularly as it enjoys low humidity. Visit one of the many archaeological sites in the area or take a trip to the local craft villages. Museums, cinemas, restaurants and nightclubs are all available, although speaking Spanish may be helpful in the more local establishments.

How to get to Oaxaca Vacation Houses

Direct flights to Oaxaca International Airport can be booked from Houston, TX and via Mexico City. The main airlines are Continental, Mexicana and Aeromexico Airlines. The airport is located about 25 minutes south of the city and there is a transportation service available for either public or private transport.

Areas to Visit From Oaxaca Condos

The local fishing port of Puerto Escondido is a popular place to visit. It is famous for its surfing, sunbathing and local restaurants.

Chiapas is the central highland area near Oaxaca. It is renowned for the beautiful handicrafts produced by the Indians here. The center of the region is the colonial style town of San Cristobel de las Casas which has narrow cobbled streets and old adobe walls, giving it a very authentic air. A visit to the San Juan Chamula Church is a great place to experience the religious and social practices of this community.

The ruins of the Mayan city at Palenque is a fascinating place to visit. The burial pyramid of King Pacal was only discovered in the 1950s and revealed much of the Mayan culture and history of Palenque and its kings.

The Weather and Climate in Oaxaca

The climate in Oaxaca varies according to the geographic zone. It can be hot and dry along the Pacific coast but at the high mountain elevations, it is much cooler. The capital city of Oaxaca enjoys subtropical weather with temperate winter temperatures, ranging from 16 to 25 C. The rainfall is mainly between June and October and the area has low humidity.
