  • Great comfortable home!

"We really enjoyed our stay at Casa del Barrio - Ricardo and his parents were friendly and helpful. This is an easy walk to Centro Historico, in a very safe neighbourhood. We walked everywhere! Ricardo was very helpful when we had to delay our trip by a day and worked things out for us, also offering to help with airlines etc. I'd recommend this place to anyone!"

  • Great place to stay

"We stayed for 10 nights in the second floor 'Otono' apartment. It was super clean and nicely furnished. Although we didn't cook any meals the kitchen appeared to be stocked well enough to do so. Drinking water was provided. It has plenty of natural light and big windows to let a nice breeze in, it never felt hot. The bed was very comfortable and the bedroom has a nice size closet. There was plenty of hot water and good water pressure in the shower. The wifi is fast and has a good signal, the router is right outside the front door. The location is perfect. It is directly across the street from the Iglesia Carmen Alto which made it very easy to tell the taxi driver to take you to the church instead of giving a street address. The only down side was when the stool was flushed there was a sewer odor but we told them about it when we left and they were going to call a plumber so I would assume that is no longer a problem. All in all an excellent value for the money."

  • Beautiful house in Oaxaca

"Judith and Sergio's house in San Felipe del Agua was such a treat! It is absolutely gorgeous, just the right size for me and my family (husband and 2 young sons, age 6 months and 4 years). It has everything you need, the kitchen is well-stocked, linens, etc. What we loved the most was the backyard/veranda. Every morning, I would roll out my yoga mat and practice in the morning sun. We were there in October, so the weather was never too hot or too cold (although we did have to use the space heater for 2 nights, but it just made it cozier for us to snuggle up on the couch). The house is really well situated, one street over from where the bus to the center would pick up every 10-15 minutes. Coming back from the center, it would drop us off right in front of the road leading up to the house. Judith and Sergio were really sweet and made sure that we had everything we needed while never being intrusive. Definitely consider this house if you are looking for a long-term rental in Oaxaca."

  • A very happy renter

"This was our second trip to Huatulco and our first rental in Condos Pacificos. We had stayed with friends in the complex before. We found this condo to be absolutely wonderful. This condo has all the comforts we desired. Linens, towels, etc was supplied as well as fully functioning appliances, air conditioning, internet and TV. Situated in the market area of Huatulco, just stepping out of the gate provides you with fresh fruits, vegetables, souvenirs, and the beautiful site of the Zucolo. There are many lovely restaurants within walking distance as well as Chahue and other parts of Huatulco. Don't feel like walking? Taxis are available by simply walking out the gate. There is access to many beautiful beaches. The condo pool area is very well maintained and the trees and plant life there is incredible. I would highly recommend this condo and we will definitely be staying there again, no hesitation."

Oaxaca Travel Tips

Staying in Oaxaca Vacation Rentals

Oaxaca is a city and region in southern Mexico. It is a delightfully cultural place to enjoy a vacation. The mountains and valleys in the area are home to a large population of Zapotec and Mixtec Indians and their pretty villages are well known for the beautiful crafts which they produce. The city of Oaxaca is a colonial city of plazas, courtyards and stone-built buildings. The surrounding area is dedicated to growing corn. High in the mountains is the ancient ceremonial center of Monte Alban, similar to the Mayan civilizations found elsewhere in Mexico. The region of Oaxaca also has a beautiful coastline with miles of sandy beaches.

Staying in a Oaxaca vacation rental is a very relaxing and easy way to enjoy a family vacation. A rental home gives more space than a standard hotel room, and a kitchen, cooking facilities and a full-size refrigerator are welcome amenities when catering for a family. Visiting the markets is just one of the local highlights, and it can be a great place to buy fresh fruit and vegetables, fish, tortillas and cheese for a cheap meal. Alternatively, use your rental home as a base and eat out at one of the reasonably priced restaurants nearby.

Condos in Oaxaca can be found within easy walking distance of the superb beaches. Enjoy beautiful views of the coastline or the mountainous backdrop, depending upon where you choose to stay. Vacation rentals can provide a quieter option for those looking for a relaxing vacation away from the bustling beachfront. With a vacation rental, the choice is yours!

Things to do Around Oaxaca

Oaxaca has some fabulous resorts along its coastline offering miles of sandy beaches, swimming and beach watersports including surfing. It is easy to rent a boat and go sea fishing or watch dolphins and turtles in the clear waters. A local traditional massage is a wonderful treatment, or try the temazcal vapor bath.

Most visitors enjoy exploring the area by car or bus. Tours can be booked to the main sightseeing locations. The area is also pleasant for hiking and cycling, particularly as it enjoys low humidity. Visit one of the many archaeological sites in the area or take a trip to the local craft villages. Museums, cinemas, restaurants and nightclubs are all available, although speaking Spanish may be helpful in the more local establishments.

How to get to Oaxaca Vacation Houses

Direct flights to Oaxaca International Airport can be booked from Houston, TX and via Mexico City. The main airlines are Continental, Mexicana and Aeromexico Airlines. The airport is located about 25 minutes south of the city and there is a transportation service available for either public or private transport.

Areas to Visit From Oaxaca Condos

The local fishing port of Puerto Escondido is a popular place to visit. It is famous for its surfing, sunbathing and local restaurants.

Chiapas is the central highland area near Oaxaca. It is renowned for the beautiful handicrafts produced by the Indians here. The center of the region is the colonial style town of San Cristobel de las Casas which has narrow cobbled streets and old adobe walls, giving it a very authentic air. A visit to the San Juan Chamula Church is a great place to experience the religious and social practices of this community.

The ruins of the Mayan city at Palenque is a fascinating place to visit. The burial pyramid of King Pacal was only discovered in the 1950s and revealed much of the Mayan culture and history of Palenque and its kings.

The Weather and Climate in Oaxaca

The climate in Oaxaca varies according to the geographic zone. It can be hot and dry along the Pacific coast but at the high mountain elevations, it is much cooler. The capital city of Oaxaca enjoys subtropical weather with temperate winter temperatures, ranging from 16 to 25 C. The rainfall is mainly between June and October and the area has low humidity.
