  • Perfect getaway for two families

"The house has a quiet location with a fabulous beach view, beautiful pool, and comfortable outdoor lounging area but most of all it comes with wonderfully attentive and helpful staff and amazing cook. Every time we left for a meal, we regretted it! We would all highly recommend La Libelula."

  • Great place

"Very nice place, quiet, spacious, well located. The people on site were very helpful with all our requests, and kept the place clean and in tidy. Some of the equipment wasn't working so well (some lights wouldn't come on, TV remote needed batteries, fridge condensation overflowing onto floor)... but only minor things and not enough to spoil our enjoyment. Watch out for mosquitoes, though: they come in easily at night, and some device id needed to keep them at bay. All in all, we would be happy to go back to Casa Lily!"

  • Quiet and Adult Oriented

"Casa Lucinda is situated within walking distance of Santa Cruz, Restaurants, grocery stroes and La Crucecita, all within a 20-25 minute walk. The unit was clean and nicely decorated. You learn to appreciate the shade in late afternoon as the unit faces a park and mountains not the ocean front. Sueno Del Mar itself is more suited to mature adult living. Overall, a great experience."

  • Such a beautiful place to stay...quiet...beautiful views...wonderful views...what more can I say :-)

"Villa Sol y Mar is the perfect place to stay if you want some peace & quiet...great views...& .wonderful hosts ( Wayne & Marcy & Ace ) who will help you in any way that they can. Their place is spotless & their guest rooms are very comfortable with plenty of storage for your items. You truly get to relax...no TV... no radios.. ( you do have internet service though ) .just the beauty that is around you that you can take in without the interruptions of your face paced life. You pretty much have full access to everything that you may need while staying at Villa Sol y Mar. There is a beach that is close by which is really nice...beautiful sand....trees for shade and some snorkeling...but you will have to hike to get to the beach. It is a great workout...lots of steps up the hill...and lots of steps down. Well worth the effort to enjoy such a beautiful area. Taxi's can be called to their home & arrive in about 5 min or less. The ride into Santa Cruz is about 15 min & will run about 50 peso's each way..well worth the money. Breakfast is served every morning which will include lots of fresh fruits..yogart..cereals..& the most wonderful waffle you will ever taste....thanks to Elsa's wonderful cooking :-). There is fresh squeezed orange juice & the best coffee ever too. We found that staying at Villa Sol y Mar was just perfect for us...we ventured out for dinner & found wonderful excursions to the other areas for us to explore. If we had stayed at one of the all inclusives we wouldn't have ventured out as much as we did and would have missed out on so much of the culture of their food & the beautiful areas that we saw."

Oaxaca Travel Tips

Staying in Oaxaca Vacation Rentals

Oaxaca is a city and region in southern Mexico. It is a delightfully cultural place to enjoy a vacation. The mountains and valleys in the area are home to a large population of Zapotec and Mixtec Indians and their pretty villages are well known for the beautiful crafts which they produce. The city of Oaxaca is a colonial city of plazas, courtyards and stone-built buildings. The surrounding area is dedicated to growing corn. High in the mountains is the ancient ceremonial center of Monte Alban, similar to the Mayan civilizations found elsewhere in Mexico. The region of Oaxaca also has a beautiful coastline with miles of sandy beaches.

Staying in a Oaxaca vacation rental is a very relaxing and easy way to enjoy a family vacation. A rental home gives more space than a standard hotel room, and a kitchen, cooking facilities and a full-size refrigerator are welcome amenities when catering for a family. Visiting the markets is just one of the local highlights, and it can be a great place to buy fresh fruit and vegetables, fish, tortillas and cheese for a cheap meal. Alternatively, use your rental home as a base and eat out at one of the reasonably priced restaurants nearby.

Condos in Oaxaca can be found within easy walking distance of the superb beaches. Enjoy beautiful views of the coastline or the mountainous backdrop, depending upon where you choose to stay. Vacation rentals can provide a quieter option for those looking for a relaxing vacation away from the bustling beachfront. With a vacation rental, the choice is yours!

Things to do Around Oaxaca

Oaxaca has some fabulous resorts along its coastline offering miles of sandy beaches, swimming and beach watersports including surfing. It is easy to rent a boat and go sea fishing or watch dolphins and turtles in the clear waters. A local traditional massage is a wonderful treatment, or try the temazcal vapor bath.

Most visitors enjoy exploring the area by car or bus. Tours can be booked to the main sightseeing locations. The area is also pleasant for hiking and cycling, particularly as it enjoys low humidity. Visit one of the many archaeological sites in the area or take a trip to the local craft villages. Museums, cinemas, restaurants and nightclubs are all available, although speaking Spanish may be helpful in the more local establishments.

How to get to Oaxaca Vacation Houses

Direct flights to Oaxaca International Airport can be booked from Houston, TX and via Mexico City. The main airlines are Continental, Mexicana and Aeromexico Airlines. The airport is located about 25 minutes south of the city and there is a transportation service available for either public or private transport.

Areas to Visit From Oaxaca Condos

The local fishing port of Puerto Escondido is a popular place to visit. It is famous for its surfing, sunbathing and local restaurants.

Chiapas is the central highland area near Oaxaca. It is renowned for the beautiful handicrafts produced by the Indians here. The center of the region is the colonial style town of San Cristobel de las Casas which has narrow cobbled streets and old adobe walls, giving it a very authentic air. A visit to the San Juan Chamula Church is a great place to experience the religious and social practices of this community.

The ruins of the Mayan city at Palenque is a fascinating place to visit. The burial pyramid of King Pacal was only discovered in the 1950s and revealed much of the Mayan culture and history of Palenque and its kings.

The Weather and Climate in Oaxaca

The climate in Oaxaca varies according to the geographic zone. It can be hot and dry along the Pacific coast but at the high mountain elevations, it is much cooler. The capital city of Oaxaca enjoys subtropical weather with temperate winter temperatures, ranging from 16 to 25 C. The rainfall is mainly between June and October and the area has low humidity.
