"We spent 10 days at Playa Caribe #5 and loved it! It was close to everything and we got to see a turtle lay her eggs right in front of the condo. If we needed anything, all we had to do was asked. We also had our groceries delivered prior to our arrival and the was awesome too! Highly recommend this condo! Anne is wonderful to work with!"Guest: Arlynn W. "This was our 2nd stay in an apartment in La Joya in Akumal. We really appreciate all the comfort and quiet of this condo. The pool, the beach, good restaurants nearby and especially Yal ku lagoon next to it. After a month of traveling in Mexico, we always end our stay by a few days in Akumal and apartments at La Joya are very nice with appreciable services (daily housekeeping) , wifi, tourist information, bicycle rental, etc."Guest: Muriel B. "I needed to escape the dreary weather in the midwest and planned a trip to Akumal with my active parents. Could not have been happier with the apartment. It was so beautiful, new and clean. Well furnished without being cluttered. Wide windows with screens and shutters. Could keep the windows open all night and enjoy the breeze, but shutters kept the light out and screens kept the bugs out. Enjoyed cocktails and watching the sun set as well as breakfast on the deck. The bathrooms were well designed - the shower in the main bathroom was great - large and great water pressure. The location was blessedly quite, not many people about which I enjoyed. Also felt quite safe the entire trip. Was pleasantly surprised that great beach towels and snorkeling masks were available in the apartment. Nice touch. The WIFI was a bit spotty, but that was ok - this vacation wasn't about electronic communication, it was about enjoying company. The washing machine is for the maid to use - she will do a wash for $5. Didn't have any laundry to do, but others should be aware. If you enjoy cooking while on vacation, be aware, like all rental places, the chef knives are dull, but that is to be expected. Other than that it equiped enough for us to prepare a dinner or two and all breakfasts. We are not beach people, but did enjoy the walk to the beach and along the shore. Was not crowded at all in February. This place does require a car to get around, but would rather do that and not feel like I was living on top of people like it appeared in Half Moon Bay. Nothing was very far away and the roads are in fine condition and everything was easy to get to - restaurants, Akumal beach, Tulum, the grocery store, gas station, etc. If you want a quite beautiful retreat in the sun, this is the place for you!"Guest: Lisa D. "First, off, my wife's family is from Mérida, Yucatán, so going to the Riviera Maya is not really an adventure, any more than is visiting our Colorado Rockies from Denver. What we were looking for was a relaxing getaway. However, we had seven members of our family in our group, covering three generations, which can make relaxing difficult. We found Villa Italiano to be a delightful no-hassles alternative to the all-inclusive scene, at 1/3 the cost. It is large enough that the seven of us weren't falling all over each other, and were able to relax and enjoy. The location put us close enough to Tulum and Puerto Aventuras that visiting attractions and making grocery runs was no big deal. Akumal is withing hiking distance for those who want to enjoy the restaurants and attractions (wear shoes, there is some rock scrambling involved). We spent most of our time taking in the sun and the surf. Swimming, snorkeling, and kayaking were daily activities (well, relaxing with a cold one and a good book was up there, too). The beautiful property is clean and well maintained. The kitchen is well stocked with all of the necessities for cooking and serving. As to attractions, I visited the Tulum ruins when Playa del Carmen was a fishing village and the Mayan Riviera was virgin beach. Otherwise, that's a must-do--but in the morning before the heat and tourists arrive. Xel-Ha has been Disneyfied and priced to the point of ridiculousness. Yal-Ku Lagoon in Akumal is a much better choice. Also the Xel-Ha archaeological site is very close by. It is not a major site like Chichen-Itza or even Tulum, but it is interesting (if you are into Mayan culture), and rarely visited (we were the only party on site). The site boasts two cenotes for those who are inclined to take a swim and cool off--no extra charfe. So, if you want a frenetic vacation activity with all the food and drink you can possibly stomach, and all the activities you can cram into the time available, go somewhere else. If your idea of a vacation is kicking back, relaxing, and enjoying the ambiance of one of the most beautiful stretches of beach on the planet, this is a good place to do it. Highly recommended, and we will likely return."Guest: Almost a Local Date of Stay: July 2014 Review Submitted: August 25, 2014View listing
