  • What an amazing property, location, and staff...best all around trip we've ever had!

"We highly recommend a stay in Akumal at Casa Kukulcan under the ownership of Mike McGetrick… one of the best vacations we’ve ever had! Mike’s design of Casa Kukulcan teases out Mayan architecture into a contemporary building including a pyramid front and an entry reflective of a Mayan purification tunnel. ‘Purified’ is how you feel as you walk in the entry that produces a gorgeous home of tile floors, dark wood accents, and a full two-story glass visual out the back at the lap pool and ocean beyond, framed in by palm trees. Our extended family of 12 ranged from 8 to 81 and the house easily accommodated needs for all. The large kitchen and professional surfaces allowed for food prep plus hanging out space and the two dining table options easily sat us all. Large air conditioned bedrooms with individual temperature controls, and comfortable beds and pillows, provided your choice of sleeping arrangements. My wife and I chose to sleep in the master suite with all doors and windows open to allow the warm breezes to pass over us. We fell asleep listening to the surf (bugs not a problem) and awoke to the songs of the melodious blackbird and kiskadee. The sunrise was also available from our master suite bed or from the chairs on the veranda …with a full cup of a Mexican mocha in hand, it was indeed perfection! Casa Kukulcan offers so much that if we did nothing else during our stay, we could fully enjoy the property, swim in the pool, or snorkel in the ocean beyond. We did that a number of days including our first full day so we could rest from travel and fully absorb our luxurious spot. We drove a few mornings into Akumal beach (just around the back of the Akumal Dive Shop at 8am) to snorkel with an assortment of sea turtles and stingrays as they grazed on the sea grass. We visited Mayan ruins as well, but a highlight of our stay was a private tour by the owner of the Santa Cruz Cenote. Carlos was very helpful and made the arrangements, but I would advise making them well in advance. The owner knows his cave and cenote well, speaks great English, and is clear about his desire to protect it while also sharing this remarkable little piece of earth with others. Thank you Mike and staff for providing the back-drop to a magical vacation! The Vickland and Wilson Families"

  • Wonderful location

"My wife and I just stayed here for a short week in June. The condo has an amazing view of Half Moon Bay and if you open the windows you can fall asleep to the sounds of waves crashing on the reef. The condo is bright and clean with plenty of room to have guests over for dinner. You can walk straight out from the condo building and go snorkeling in the bay. There is not a sandy beach directly out front from the condo, but you can easily walk a short distance (100 yards) to the sandy beach. Yalku lagoon is a 5 minute walk from the condo. There are 3 restaurants (la Lunita, la Buena Vista and La Onda) within walking distance. Akumal bay itself was a longer walk so we usually drove (5 mins) to get there, although parking usually needs to be paid for. The condo unit has cheap rental bikes if you do not want to drive. The staff at the condo unit were very helpful. The area itself is wonderful in so many ways! Great beaches, snorkeling, cenotes, Mayan ruins... something for everyone."

  • Deserves the name 'Paradise in Akumal'!

"First off, we wish we were still there! 10 days in the glorious Mexican sun was not enough! We thoroughly enjoyed our time. We arrived almost a day late due to flight issues and even though we got to La Bahia in the middle of the night we still received a warm welcome from the security guard on duty. I felt very safe with all the security around, which is important for me because we have a two and a four year old. The condo was perfect for us; the kitchen was equipped with all the modern amenities you would desire, the TV was put to use on the one rainy afternoon we encountered, and the bedrooms were spacious, have room to unpack, and the beds are very comfortable. Being right on the beach really made our stay relaxing! We would put the kids to bed and still enjoy the evening outside and have our morning coffee on the patio and watch the kids play in the sand, 5 feet away. The daily cleaning staff were wonderful; dishes done, beds made, garbage taken out and our water was refilled regularly. The beach itself was nice. We enjoyed going for walks around the bay but be careful with all the rocks if you want to go for a swim, water shoes are a must. The area is great, the condo is wonderful and we definitely recommend this if you are looking for a quiet, low key get away! Tim and Raeanne"
