  • Return to Casa Del Sol

"This was our second stay at this casa... and once again everything was great. Clean, comfortable and as other reviews mention, centrally located. We prepared our own meals (there are two grocery stores in Tulum with everything you need). Akumal beach is great for snorkeling... saw lots of turtles and beautiful fish and corral. Thanks again Jason, great place to stay!"

  • Comfortable home and great value!

"We really enjoyed our stay with our family in Chan Chemuyil. This house is older and in a typical Mexican neighborhood rather than a resort, and it is quite literally in the jungle, but if you are ok with that like we are, it's a great place to stay and make your dollar stretch a little farther! The house is cute and cozy and well appointed. The owners obviously take a lot of pride in it and have paid attention to details. The linens are good quality, as are the kitchen utensils and cookware, and there is lots of good beach gear (only thing missing was a functional beach umbrella). We really enjoyed having our own private pool and spent some lovely, quiet hours floating on the rafts with our books and drinks while our son napped! The rooftop deck and the front porch were also great, although it was usually too hot or too buggy to use them much in July. The AC units did seem to struggle compete with the summer heat--this probably wouldn't be a problem in cooler months. But the location is really what makes the house incredible. Xcacel, the beach right across the highway, is easily the most beautiful beach on the whole coast--and there are some beautiful beaches in the Yucatan! The water is surreally blue and clear, and the jungle meets the sand behind you as there are no hotels or restaurants. It was often empty or almost empty...just magical! Such a secret gem. The house is also very close to attractions like Xcaret and lots of cool cenotes, and it's a short drive to Tulum or Akumal or Playa del Carmen. I would strongly recommend a car, as it makes it so much easier to explore the area, and walking to the beach I think would've been pretty hot and tiring, even though it is doable. The pueblo of Chemuyil was also cool. We enjoyed walking into town for dinner a few times and experiencing the area's real culture, a refreshing alternative to the typical resort town. The people were very friendly! Overall, this home was a great choice for our family vacation. I would recommend this home to anyone who is looking for a bit of adventure away from the all-inclusive or the luxury resort, but still with the comforts of home."

  • Truly a little piece of paradise

"Bob and I were so pleased with our stay at Casita Paraiso and our adventures in the surrounding area. It was exactly what we wanted and needed! The neighborhood in which Casita Paraiso is located boasts an eclectic population of Mexican nationals and ex-pats. The neighborhood is quiet and pleasant. The house itself was clean, nicely appointed, and aesthetically pleasing...and air-conditioned! We loved the very private patio and spent a fair amount of time there when we were in our home-away-from home. The pictures on the website and facebook accurately depict the casita. Bob and I chose not to rent a car (unless we found we really needed one) and we didn't. We could get anywhere we wanted to go via the bikes, walking, colectivo, or bus. We prefer to melt into the local life when we vacation and we always felt very safe anytime of day or night we were out and about. Kathy and Mark were super helpful as was the property manager who resides in the neighborhood when we had a question or two. Kathy and Mark have put a lot of effort into compiling a book of local beaches, ruins, cenotes from various travel sites and interjected their own experiences and preferences which is helpful. While I think a car would be more convenient for carrying beach gear back and forth as well as storing valuables (like cameras) when at the beach, we managed just fine taking very minimal gear on the colectivo system. We loved the setting, the casita, the nearby pueblo of Chemuyil, the beach of Xcacel, the cenotes we visited, Tulum, the biosphere of Sian Ca'an, and Akumal. There is so much to do and see and so much of it is still unspoiled or undeveloped. I will definitely go back and I hope Kathy and Mark are still renting their lovely Casita Paraiso then!"

  • A great base for a family vacation

"The listing accurately described the location, appearance and amenities. It was clean and well-maintained, and Michele a joy to work with. The casa came completely equipped so we were able to take full advantage of Xcacel and Playa Akumal - the beach chairs, umbrella, towels, snorkel gear and boards. The location was very convenient to the ruins, cenotes and theme parks. We had one of the best vacations yet as a family. Thanks Michele for sharing your wonderful home. I would definitely recommend!"
