"This place is loved by its owner and you can feel it the minute you get in the condo. The local art makes you feel in Mexico, yet you fell like home. The kids enjoyed the pools while we marvelled at the sunsets. What a view! Being located at the end of Half Moon Bay, there are no seaweeds in front of the condo and that's remarkable for Riviera Maya nowadays. The place is at walking distance from Laguna Yal-Ku, which we enjoyed very much. Hector and Ana took great care of us.
A nice surprise was Akumal itself : it's small, enjoyable, colourful and feels like a community. We even preferred it to Playa or Tulum. The snorkelling right in front of Akumal Beach (5 min ride from the condo) is very enjoyable: we've seen a dozen sea turtles, very big fishes and a couple of stingrays. Kids loved it so much we had to return 3 times during our one-week stay!
Thanks Martin for all your support and great advice. We will remember you and Akumal for a long time!"

"The Banyan Tree Mayakoba is one of those special places that you must venture out to. My Wife and I have been on some wonderful Caribbean vacations over the years but this one trumped them all. The hotel grounds are exquisite (and massive, we rode bikes all over the property)! The staff is as helpful and responsive as can be. We stayed at this villa with 2 other couples. While there is only one true master bedroom, the other 2 bedrooms are magnificent too and no one felt as though they got the worst room. We all had plenty of space for alone time and definitely did not feel as though we were on top of each other. The Beach is located right outside the villa and is steps away from the Sands beach club if you want hang out at a pool or with other people. The booking process was really great too. Susan from Playa Luxury Rentals was very responsive and answered all of our questions prior to arrival. Just do it!"

"To preface this review I think it's important that the reader understand that we were in Mahahual at Casa Maria for 30 days during the worst seaweed (sargasso) invasion in at least 40 years. We were able to find ways to entertain ourselves and have a great time but I would not recommend anywhere in the Caribbean while the seaweed invasion is happening.
First off the house:
Casa Maria is absolutely stunning. The bedrooms are spacious and the beds exceptionally comfortable. 2 of the bathrooms are also quite large and very well equipped. My mother in law was raving about the decor her entire stay. It was very nice having purified water and ice from the fridge. The screen room was so nice for eating and playing games! Also the internet was very fast and Netflix worked which was unexpected!
We worked primarily with Suzanne who was wonderful. She provided us with pictures of the beach and lots of useful information. Upon our arrival and finding massive amounts of seaweed on the beach she was very helpful in providing us with options and putting us in contact with people for activities outside of the water.
Cladio is a great asset to Casa Maria. He speaks good english and was consistently checking with us. What we learned with Cladio is you need to ask him or it probably won't get done. Just ask! Cladio also kept us stocked with fresh coconuts which we kept in the fridge and were delicious!
Casa Maria is quite remote. It took us 4:30 minutes to drive from the airport in Cancun to Casa Maria stopping only for gas. From Casa Maria to the town of Mahahual is apprx 25 minutes depending on the condition of the beach road. The stars from the rooftop deck were unbelievable. And most importantly Casa Maria is relatively affordable.
This is a tough one for us. We rarely went outside during our time at Casa Maria. We found that the beaches in the town of Mahahual were having the seaweed removed with heavy machinery and were much cleaner. Claudio tried to rake the seaweed a few times but it always came back. The landscaping around Casa Maria is beautiful. The sand is the softest and whitest of any beach I have found in Mexico. We snorkeled several times from "The Point" which is a short drive up the road. We saw turtles on the beach! Sadly there is a lot of garbage on the beach in both directions from Casa Maria.
Overall I really want to come back when conditions have improved."

"This was our 2nd trip to Isla as well as our 2nd stay in Clyde's condo. Again, everything was perfect! The condo is in a great location; on the beach and steps from all the great restaurants & shops. The unit is well taken care of and Diana the housekeeper is a true gem. Hope to return for a 3rd time!"
