  • Just How A Vacation Should Be

"First, off, my wife's family is from Mérida, Yucatán, so going to the Riviera Maya is not really an adventure, any more than is visiting our Colorado Rockies from Denver. What we were looking for was a relaxing getaway. However, we had seven members of our family in our group, covering three generations, which can make relaxing difficult. We found Villa Italiano to be a delightful no-hassles alternative to the all-inclusive scene, at 1/3 the cost. It is large enough that the seven of us weren't falling all over each other, and were able to relax and enjoy. The location put us close enough to Tulum and Puerto Aventuras that visiting attractions and making grocery runs was no big deal. Akumal is withing hiking distance for those who want to enjoy the restaurants and attractions (wear shoes, there is some rock scrambling involved). We spent most of our time taking in the sun and the surf. Swimming, snorkeling, and kayaking were daily activities (well, relaxing with a cold one and a good book was up there, too). The beautiful property is clean and well maintained. The kitchen is well stocked with all of the necessities for cooking and serving. As to attractions, I visited the Tulum ruins when Playa del Carmen was a fishing village and the Mayan Riviera was virgin beach. Otherwise, that's a must-do--but in the morning before the heat and tourists arrive. Xel-Ha has been Disneyfied and priced to the point of ridiculousness. Yal-Ku Lagoon in Akumal is a much better choice. Also the Xel-Ha archaeological site is very close by. It is not a major site like Chichen-Itza or even Tulum, but it is interesting (if you are into Mayan culture), and rarely visited (we were the only party on site). The site boasts two cenotes for those who are inclined to take a swim and cool off--no extra charfe. So, if you want a frenetic vacation activity with all the food and drink you can possibly stomach, and all the activities you can cram into the time available, go somewhere else. If your idea of a vacation is kicking back, relaxing, and enjoying the ambiance of one of the most beautiful stretches of beach on the planet, this is a good place to do it. Highly recommended, and we will likely return."

  • Great choice for amenities, service, location

"We arrived late at night and had no problems finding the condo or getting situated. Office staff was very helpful, unit was clean and nicely decorated. We loved the pool (we always had it to ourselves), Plank restaurant (office gave free brunch coupon and free drink coupons), secure underground parking. The Gym is an excellent facility. Indigo Beach Club is also a nice resource that's included and close, though the beach is not as nice as Tulum or hotel zone, as there are many wooden boats docked there with rope ties in the water. Proximity to 5th Avenue, pharmacies and medical care, restaurants, Mega and Walmart are all outstanding. I wouldn't hesitate to rent this condo again if I go back to Playa del Carmen."

  • Magic in Mexico!

"Casa Almaviva, from the first moment you arrive provides a haven to relax, renew and enjoy your natural environment. It was a perfect place for a birthday trip with friends -- weather it was a morning relaxing on our private beach (feels like you have your own private island!) or an afternoon using the bikes, kayaks, snorkels and fins to work up an appetite we were happy to do nothing or have any activity at your disposal. David and Miriam, the staff at the house are welcoming and wonderful. The food was lovely and fresh. My personal favorites: time in the hammocks by the ocean and sunrise and sunset on the roof deck with a wonderful cup or coffee in the AM and wine at night. AND the weather was perfect -- warm days and cools nights! No A/C needed (even if it is provided). An adventurous day trip down to Punta Allen to go on a boat tour to see amazing wild life and snorkel in the gorgeous water was also a highlight! We will definitely make Casa Almaviva a yearly tradition!"

  • Another BEST stay that was not long enough

"Thanks Kim and David for another great stay in your condo. We were very comfortable and slept extremely well. The weather gods were with us as well. We had rain on the last night we were there. The rest of the time was sunny and just the right temp for a pleasant stay. Really liked the new furniture and changes in the bathroom. We did miss the recliners on the patio however and the internet WIFI doesn't work most of the time. We really did not need to be connected anyway. It's a vacation. You just cannot beat the employees there. They are johnny on the spot if you need them for anything. Love them all. Our favorite place to eat this time was Limon'. You need reservations and if you want Lobster Sergio, you need to tell them when you make your reservation. A week is just not long enough. Until next time........"
