  • Tranquil Paradise

"The coastal town of Mahahaul has grown over the past couple of years from an isolated wide spot in the road to a quaint village with excellent beaches, hotels, restaurants and skin/scuba diving. Plenty to do but not overrun with tourists and at a fraction of the cost of Cancun/Playa del Carmen. Casa del Cielo de las Estrellas puts you within 10 minutes of the town yet offers a serene and tranquil respite from civilization if you just want to lie on the beach and read. The property itself is beautiful and well-maintained by the friendly and responsive caretaker. The house offers three levels of terraces and balconies from which one can see the ocean and enjoy the soothing sound of the surf. The main level offers ample living space and the upstairs bedrooms are large and well-appointed. (Caution: The narrow spiral staircase presents a challenge for larger bodies. I'm 6'4", weigh 250 lbs, and made it without difficulty, albeit slowly and ducking to avoid kabonging my head. It terrified our Labrador.) The kitchen offers only two burners, no stove, but the two outside grills compensate. In short, it's a wonderful place, we (two adults, 14 year old daughter) enjoyed ourselves tremendously, will return and can recommend it to anyone who wants to enjoy the Mexican Riviera without Cancun's congestion, loud bars and high prices."

  • A wonderful vacation.

"My wife and I stayed at the Casa Blanca Caribe for one month and laying in the warm crystal clear waters was a wonderful daily routine. The owners were extremely attentive to our needs and the communications before and during our stay couldn't have been better. The house is very comfortable and we were occasionally greeted by local fishermen who would sell us part of their daily catch (including Caribbean lobsters). The property surrounding the house is very clean and the trees are loaded with coconuts which we regularly opened. The sea is only steps away so we were in heaven for the month we stayed here. (our dog loved it too.) There is only one downside, they say they have internet service, and yes they do have the equipment but.... it seldom communicates with the Internet in any meaningful, useful way! Very frustrating"

  • Absolutely PERFECT Vacation-Celebration!

"Where do I start? From the very first email from Amanda, this trip was a dream vacation and celebration of my daughters college graduaton. Even though Casa Playa Maya is a distance from the Cancun Airport, the roads were great and the instructions and maps given to us were simple and easy to follow. And as we wanted 'off the beaten path', it was a perfect fit. The house was better than the pictures. The Caribbean Sea in front of the house is beautiful. Being able to walk to water in 30 steps is amazing and the snorkeling is awesome there too. The views from the bedrooms are georgous. The living areas and kitchen are roomy and well equipped. The ocean breeze keeps the house comfortable and sleeping with the doors and windows open was so relaxing and restful. Richard and Amanda (Honey and Zen) are so warm, friendly, and accomodating! They answered our many questions and gave us pointers as to local attractions and food. They also communicated with our snorkel excursion contact as we were traveling and secured us a snorkel tour to Banco Chinchorro, which we may not have been possible without them. Richard prepared us and awesome meal with local fresh fish that we will remember for always. This place would not be the same without this amazing couple who were brave enough to leave the comforts of Georgia and live in this somewhat primitive but beautiful area. Two turtles came ashore during the night and laid eggs while we were there. It was so exciting to see the trail from the water to their nesting site. Richard and Amanda marked the nests so that they would not be disturbed. I just wish I could be there to witness them hatching and making their way to the sea! I am so thankful for the eye openers we were taught as to living 'off the grid'. To conserving energy, water, and other resources and to the global issue of non-biodegradable trash that is washing up on these beautiful shores from all over the world. It is a problem that everyone needs to address in their daily lives. I want to recommend this property to everyone and no one! To everyone because of my personal great experience, and to no one, because I intend to go back and never want it to be spoiled!"

  • Magical Beach House in Paradise

"My husband and I rented Casa Costa Cristal for 4 nights in August 2014. The beach house is beautiful and the town of Mahahual is a welcome change from the busy over-developed tourist resorts in Mexico. We enjoyed our stay so much that we wanted to extended for a few more days, but unfortunately the house was rented. We live in Puerto Aventuras (near Playa Del Carmen) so it was about 3 hours drive on the Highway. Mary, the owner, gave us excellent directions and always answered my e-mails promptly and very friendly. Moises and his family seem very nice and they are taking very good care of the property. The house was spotless when we arrived. They were very kind and gave us some milk the first morning as we had forgotten to buy it. The property is beautifully designed and the location is ideal. The ocean breeze is delightful and we loved the privacy of the beach. It was wonderful being able to walk a few feet from the house and be in the stunning Caribbean Ocean. We brought our mountain bikes and the beach road was great for cycling into town. It took about 50 minutes and we enjoyed the scenery along the way. Mahahual town is also very bike friendly. There were no cruise ships in whilst we were there so the town was very quiet. There were some restaurants open but not many people around. We were very glad we chose to rent a beach home rather than stay in a hotel in town. Our visit was during ''rainy season’’ but we only had one stormy day, however this didn’t stop us from taking a dip in the ocean, and the lightening was very exciting to watch. The house is fully equipped with everything you need and the master bed is incredibly comfortable, something quite rare in Mexico! Internet connection was great. We didn’t use the TV but Sky channels were available. We can’t wait to return to Casa Costa Cristal and experience the magic again."

Mahahual Travel Tips

Experience Mexico in Majahual Vacation Rentals

For an authentic Mexican vacation, you can get away from the typical tourist spots and come to Majahual. Located in the heart of the Costa Maya region, Majahual villas allow you to see a beautiful part of Mexico that can never be seen from your typical Cancun vacation. Majahual is usually a very quiet town; it only gets busy when the occasional cruise ship stops by. And as the very center of the Costa Maya, Majahual is definitely worth the drive from Cancun or Chetumal.

Majahual Villas are more than Beach Houses

While the beach is a major draw in this town, Quintana Roo condos in Majahual give you access to much more than just the Gulf of Mexico. Majahual is an access point for tours to the Mayan ruins of Kohunlich or Chacchoban. It is also very close to the town of Bacalar, home to the Cenote Azul, a naturally formed deep water pond which is perfect for swimming or diving in calm, clear water. Also, only 25 kilometers north of Majahual is Uvero Beach Club, which advertizes the unique opportunity to go swimming with dolphins.

Mexican Food in Majahual

Because Majahual has only recently begun catering to tourists, most of the restaurants in Majahual are intended mainly for the locals. So, if you’re looking to vacation at a place with lots of authentic Mexican food, you need look no further than Majahual. Just as staying in Majahual vacation rentals will make you feel more like a native, so will the experience of eating real Mexican food, just like the locals. This is an experience that is harder to find in more commonly visited areas, where American restaurants are easier to find than Mexican. So, dust off your Spanish dictionary, and visit Majahual!
