  • Akumal - Casa Palapa Get-a-way

"Pio, Fernando, and Norma take excellent care of the Casa Palapa and provide terrific guidance on what to do and what not to do. Pio knows this area very well and is very personable and fun to talk with. Residents of Akumal know Pio and even called him for us when we made a visit to Akumal. Fernando and Norma are always smiling and making sure your stay is comfortable. We are able to find the great place to stay and enjoy the Mayan Riviera. Probably the best highlight for our family of 5, all the kids being teenagers, is that we got to enjoy the sea turtles coming to the beach to lay eggs and baby sea turtles hatch and run for the sea. Many critters to enjoy while here: Iguana’s, hermit crabs, sea turtles, and regular crabs. Within 20 minutes of this spot were the Tulum Ruins, Dos Ojos Cenote, Chedraui (store), Akumal, Gas stations, and a golf course. We told Pio our vacation was to just come relax and enjoy the sun and beach, and he let us do, but let me add that Pio offers deep sea fishing, snorkeling, and will help you with anything you want to do. As you follow the directions to Casa Palapa and you stop at Chedraui to stock up, just know that this store will take American money and have the best exchange rates (12.98 P : 1 USD). I am recommending this Casa Palapa to my family and friends. I would give this 4.5 stars but don’t have the option to, so I gave it a 4. I do this because of not being able to turn the lights off on the outside at night."

  • Views and breezes

"My husband and I spent a fabulous two weeks i September on Isla Mujeres, in lovely Casa Flamboyan. The views from all levels of the house are spectacular. I loved watching the sunrise from the back deck in the morning, then moving to the front verandah to read a book in the hammock overlooking the Bay. Afternoons we would relax by the pool and watch the pods of dolphins play just off shore. Evenings would start on the front verandah watching the sunset, and end on the back deck watching the full moon rise over the Caribbean, washing the ocean with sparkling light, and cruise ships glimmering on the horizon. The huge waves crashing on shore provided the perfect musical accompaniment. We fell asleep many nights watching and listening to the surf. The cross breezes were beautiful and we only turned on the AC at bedtime when it was time to close and lock the doors for the night. The pool area and back deck were always comfortable even on the hottest days due to the breezes. Just beautiful. The apartment itself (Azul) is cute, with a small kitchen and sitting room, a bedroom and bathroom with a window overlooking the ocean in the shower. Lots of storage, amazing natural lighting thanks to all the neat cutouts and skylights, and great night time lighting with dimmable lamps and pot lights. There were ceiling fans in the bedroom, living room and on the front verandah. Real is a bigger unit with a proper kitchen. Keep that in mind if you plan on cooking a lot. We like Azul for its privacy. We were so lucky that no one else was renting while we were there, and we had the entire property to ourselves. We spent a lot of time lounging on the many decks and patios, and swimming in the refreshing pool. We beach combed and walked a lot. Proximity to town is excellent, easily walkable along the malecon with its beautiful views and breezes. The colonias are also an easy walk away. Cabs are plentiful and all you had to do was stand in front of the house and one would pass by every minute or two. There is off street parking for your golf cart, as well. Lupe was in every couple of days to tidy up and change sheets and towels; she was very thorough yet unobtrusive. She was easily accessible should we require anything at all. All in all, we had a very nice time and would recommend this house to family and friends, and would stay there again ourselves."

  • Beautiful Nah Yaxche!

"We spent 7 nights at Nah Yaxche in late April this year and it was wonderful. The house and property are exactly as represented here. It's a lovely setting on a protected, idyllic bay. There is a master bedroom and loft in the main house with the kitchen, and an equally charming smaller separate 1-bedroom house adjacent. We had two couples and our 12 year old son and it provided a great balance of community and privacy. The caretakers rake the beach and cleanup so everything looks good every day. Bahia Soliman is an ideal location close to Tulum, the cenotes, Xel Ha, deep sea fishing and diving facilities (Puerto Aventura and Akumal respectively). Tulum is 10 minutes away (with restaurants, grocery stores, etc. as well as the coastal ruins), the ruins at Coba are about an hour away, Puerto Aventura is half an hour, and Cancun Airport is about an hour and a half. You will need a car to get around. From the beach, you can paddle out to the reef on one of the three kayaks, and the snorkeling is amazing. Beautiful large coral structures, high biodiversity, and all an easy paddle (or swim) from the beachfront. We saw turtles, eels (at night), rays, skates, and loads of fish. The house is well supplied and cared for. The owner (David) was easy to deal with and quick to reply to questions and provide advice for our trip. He cares about the house and the community; he wrote a book about Tulum. I spent a lot of time hunting around VRBO, Trip Advisor, and other sites to find a place to stay. I had some level of concern that Nah Yaxche might be too good to be true and that we would be disappointed by reality upon arrival, but that wasn't the case. The photos on this site look exactly like my vacation photos from last week. If you're looking for a beach-front house on a white sand beach, with rich architecture and a great location, you will be happy here. It's a relaxed, low key setting for enjoying Caribbean tranquility."

  • Great property, relaxing time, well maintained

"Great location between Tulum and Playa Carmen. Lots of dining options in the area. Reasonable beach very close by. Good safe gated community. Great place to visit with kids. Pool is right outside the condo. The condo is well maintained. Has all the modern amenities you would expect. Good value for the money. Owner is very helpful, answers questions promptly and will explain area very well. Overall, a good vacation spot. Have rented several vrbo, homeaway, airbnb places before and this is one of our favorites."
