  • Quiet Oasis for our Family to Explore

"We spent five nights at Casa de Paloma and loved everyone of them. The property is very clean and cared for. The property caretakers were on hand to help with anything that we needed and very nice. The location was postcard perfect. We loved the time spent on our little beach and snorkeling right out the front door. We had the joy of swimming with numerous fish and sting ray. Our fishing/snorkeling guide Victor was fantastic and the kids hauled in so many fish that fishing was not boring. We ate at a few restaurants, bought fruit and cakes from the trucks that drive right to your door. We saw a manatee in the mangroves and birds on bird island. Lots of outdoor activities to keep you busy. A good selection of restaurants. The people are super pleasant. We thought the road to the Xcalak would be undeveloped but it was a great narrow highway the entire way and no problems at all. The house is located just outside of town so it was quiet but with easy access to town amenities. We hope to return one day soon."

  • snorkelers paradise

"Caretakers Matt and Bethany were fabulous!!!!!!!!!!!!! After an 11 day stay, my wife was in tears for having to leave. Matt worked hard around the property, and made us feel welcome. We snorkeled, fished, 4 wheeled, and explored with Matt. He introduced us to other owners down the beach road. We usually vacation for about a month in Mexico, and Casa del Sol is always the toughest to leave. We particularly enjoy cooling off in the tide pools, and the vast diversity of sealife and wildlife in the area. I was lucky to see a panther at dusk, upon returning from evening flyfishing. Back less than a week, we have already reserved for next year. Tomas y Marguarite Butler"

  • Secluded Retreat

"We stayed at Casa de Suenos in early May, 2014. Note that when you rent this place you are renting a room within it, not the entire house. The upstairs has two bedrooms and a private kitchen. The downstairs has two bedrooms and shared kitchen. We were not told which room we were getting when we rented so you may want to know just fyi. When we were there the battery back up was not working so we were not allowed to use the ceiling fan in the bedroom. Most nights it was fine but on nights with no wind it was brutal. Check that this is fixed before you go. The caretakers are expats from the US and they were wonderful and very helpful. We loved them. Be aware they have some pets that wander the property which didn't bother us at all but you may want to know this if you are allergic or have an aversion to them. The grounds were very well maintained and the room was very clean. We snorkeled right out the door at the reef which was great. Diving was great with the XTC Dive Center and fishing with Costa de Cocos was very fun. Overall a fun trip to a beautiful remote part of Mexico."

  • All (almost) perfect

"My dream come true by coming to this house/location: an entire ocean front villa with an amazing turquoise Caribbean sea all for you and your family and nobody else around. And you can get all this with a nice price The villa in fact is very nice and pretty big and as far as I saw it is the most convenient of that area, in fact basically for the same price you can get the entire villa, whereas other houses I contacted they would have given only one of the two floor. Other important thing when you go to such wild heavens, you will have the house owner that is very kind and assist you in any question you may have about house/location until you get there. Everything was very well managed: you will meet there a local house manager (who speaks a perfect English) once in Xcalak other than a caretaker (who can arrange a rustic BBQ on request if you wish). From a scale 1 to 10 I would give 8,5 to this house just because with some small cheap details the house would be perfect: for example it could be provided a tent/big umbrella on the amazing terrace with a stunning view that villa has to stay more protected from the strong sun; because only like that you may have lunch/dinner/breakfast because without some kind of cover you cannot stay more than 10 minutes with Caribbean sun on your head (unless you are not like an iguana…). Also another table and chair/bed could be put on the terrace to better enjoy it. A BBQ could complete the perfection (even though it may be arranged the rustic one by the caretaker)… Other than this small details, my vacation was perfect more than expected (except the argue with a fisherman guide who took my fishing catch, a big barracuda, after he told me he would give to me as part of the package tour paid….but this has nothing to do with house, only an advice if you decide to come to Xclalak for fishing as well, just clear up with a guide very very well this point if you go fishing, they sometimes try to be smart and keep the catch if that is going to be very good) Definitely I would recommend this house and Xcalak to whoever would like to spend sometime in a breathtaking place and experience the sensation to have an ocean front villa…Caribbean ocean not a normal one …"

Xcalak Travel Tips

Reef Diving near Xcalak Vacation Rentals

Xcalak, located in the south end of Quintana Roo, is well-known for its reef systems which form a barrier between Xcalak and the major portion of the Caribbean Sea. Because the large coral reefs are easily accessible from Xcalak, there are several companies which offer diving trips to the reefs. This is better than most diving spots, as there are dozens of types of sea creatures around the reef which live only in coral reefs.

Only an hour and a half away from Xcalak by boat is Banco Chinchorro, an atoll with dive sites that provide an insight into maritime history. The east side of Banco Chinchorro is the site of at least 10 shipwrecks, due to the nearby reef which stranded unsuspecting Spanish ships on the coast. Banco Chinchorro is also the largest atoll in the northern hemisphere, and definitely worth visiting while staying in Xcalak villas.

Cenote Dive and Snorkel While Staying in Quintana Roo Condos

If you would rather dive in calmer waters, Xcalak villas are also close to several dive sites called cenotes. Cenotes are large, natural eroded inland caves filled with water. The largest of these is Cenote Azul, which is 600 feet across and over 290 feet deep. Cenote Azul is a mystical dive experience, with fresh water fish and a strangely eroded landscape, with nicely warm water.

There are also many shallow locations along the beach and near the reef where visitors can go snorkeling. You can even snorkel in a few places at Banco Chinchorro, so even if you prefer not to dive, you can see the shipwrecks of Banco Chinchorro. Xcalak’s many Quintana Roo condos provide an excellent place to stay while exploring this part of Spanish history, because they are both comfortable and convenient.
