  • Peaceful, comfortable condo with great beach facilities

"Spent 10 wonderful days in this condo- AC worked great.Plenty of hot water-just took a couple minutes to warm up. All appliances worked well. The Riviera Maya management team was very efficient. Check in and check out were quick and easy. Condo was clean and had wonderful breezes on roof top and balcony.Best part was the free access to Las Palapas Beach Club- the nicest section of beach in town! Large shady palapas and comfortable lounges. Great food and drinks available. Several nice pools on the grounds. Just a short walk thru jungle to beach. Will definitely return soon."

  • TROPICAL PARADISE

"We stayed at Aileen and Mark’s condo for 8 nights in early May, 2015. At this time of year there was enough activity in Akumal Playa to appreciate the small resort town with restaurants and beach activities but quiet enough to be a relaxing, slow-paced vacation. The condo terrace off the Living Area must have the best view of Half Moon Bay in all of North Akumal. Pelicans fly by at the same height as the deck. In addition, there were terraces off each of the bedrooms overlooking the beautiful garden and pool. The owners have provided all kitchen needs and appliances, as well as snorkeling equipment and comfortable beds and furniture. We had maid service every day. The supervising staff was very helpful and spoke English. We were able to get phone calls from the U.S., as well as wi-fi and TV. We were amused that we were watching Canadian satellite TV in Mexico. Akumal is well situated to visit other towns and activities. We had rented a car in Cancun and we drove to Playa del Carmen for groceries and a bank. Akumal has a couple grocery options but not a lot of variety. Akumal does not have a bank. The Centro Maya mall in Playa has a large, extensive supermarket, Soriano, as well as a bank, and it is located at the south end of town. We visited Tulum for Mayan ruins. There are many ‘adventure’ spots close to Akumal but we found we were very content to stay close to La Sirena, where we could swim in the pool or ocean, snorkel, or relax at the palapas. There are 3 restaurants close to the condo: Que Onda, La Lunita and La Buena Vida. Each had its own atmosphere and menu. We thought we would eat more meals at the condo but the restaurants were so good! We enjoyed walking to places for all our needs, including a tiny market for beer, etc. A wonderful snorkeling spot, Yal-Ku, is about two blocks distance at the end of the road. There is a fee to go in and the gardens have amazing bronze sculptures. Words of caution: Akumal is basically a cash society, credit cards don’t seem to be accepted. There are two ATMs in Akumal Playa but they were not working the day we wanted money. It was in the 90s and windy when we were there but the water and breezes made it easy to get cooler. The owner, Aileen, was a joy to do business with. She gave us helpful information before our visit and the condo met all our needs and more. This will not be the only time we stay at Akumal."

  • Couldn't have been any better!

"The Banyan Tree Mayakoba is one of those special places that you must venture out to. My Wife and I have been on some wonderful Caribbean vacations over the years but this one trumped them all. The hotel grounds are exquisite (and massive, we rode bikes all over the property)! The staff is as helpful and responsive as can be. We stayed at this villa with 2 other couples. While there is only one true master bedroom, the other 2 bedrooms are magnificent too and no one felt as though they got the worst room. We all had plenty of space for alone time and definitely did not feel as though we were on top of each other. The Beach is located right outside the villa and is steps away from the Sands beach club if you want hang out at a pool or with other people. The booking process was really great too. Susan from Playa Luxury Rentals was very responsive and answered all of our questions prior to arrival. Just do it!"

Quintana Roo Travel Tips

Quintana Roo has Perfect Beaches and Much More

The Mexican state of Quintana Roo is on the eastern part of Yucatán Peninsula. It is home to some of the best vacation areas in the country. Some visitors come seeking activity all day and dancing all night; others come for the tranquility of large beaches and warm seas. While the capital city of Quintana Roo is Chetumal, the state also includes Cancún, the islands of Cozumel, Isla Mujheres, and towns such as Bacalar, Felipe Carrillo Puerto and Playa del Carmen. Other places to visit are Puerto Juárez, Akumal, and Puerto Morelos. Remnants of the ancient Mayan civilization abound here, such as at Chaccbhoben, Coba, Kohunlich, Muyil, Tulum, Xel-Há, and Xcaret. And that is just a few! This is a large area, great for mixing relaxing on the beach with some water sports thrown in and day trips in an array of beautiful towns and ancient ruins.

Being geared to tourism, Quintana Roo is easy to explore and most people coming here take advantage of the many options to get around the area. Most choose to arrive via Cancún International Airport and many take a rental car option for maximum freedom to explore. Many choose Quintana Roo Mexico vacation rentals for the same reasons.

Beaches, Water Sports and Theme Parks Galore

Cancún, known as the Mexican Caribbean, sits on the Yucatán Channel and is a world-famous tourist location. Visitors here will enjoy some of the best beaches in the world with an exceptional amount of water sports, such as diving, swimming with dolphins and deep sea fishing. A short ferry ride takes visitors to the beautiful Isla Mujeres and one of the many attractions here is the incredible seafood! The island is a favorite for those who enjoy snorkeling and scuba diving on the many coral reefs. Another major attraction here is the facility for the rescue and breeding of sea turtles. Cancún has great shopping and a variety of theme parks, such as Xplor, Xcaret Eco Park and Xel-Ha.

For those who find the lure of exploration, the Riviera Maya will be a great experience. People come here for the archaeological sites, such as Coba and Tulum.

The town of Bacalar sits on a lagoon of the same name. This beautiful town dates from the 16th century and has a fascinating history of piracy. The 17th-century Fortress de San Felipe Bacalar is now a wonderful tourist attraction.

Those seeking quieter Quintana Roo Mexico resorts have many options to choose from. Puerto Morelos, with its mangrove swamp, or Akumal, meaning "place of the turtles" would make great options. There are many smaller resorts that are less crowded but with equally wonderful beaches and shopping. They are also within close proximity to larger towns for more lively activities.

Archaeological Sites to See

No visit to Quintana Roo Mexico condos is complete without exploring some of the incredible ancient sites in this region. Visitors will enjoy heading into the jungle to visit these sites. Bonampak is famous for its graphic murals of human sacrifice! Kohunlich, Dzibanche and Oxtankah are famous for the lush jungle, exotic birds and wildlife. Bring your bathing suit to Tulum, the "Walled City" where the beach is next to the site. Visitors can view the Fresco remnants before heading for a swim. Accessible by river via long boats is Yaxchilan. Deep in the Chiapas jungle, this site includes several Mayan ruins and is well worth a visit.

Make Your Vacation Perfect with the Perfect Accommodation
