  • Casa La Barenda was our perfect Merida home away from home!

"My husband and I rented Casa La Barenda for two months and loved it! It is beautifully restored with many nice, artistic details that make it very comfortable for a short or long stay. We were so grateful to have the plunge pool and used it every day! The outdoor and indoor fountains were an extra-nice touch. The kitchen had everything we needed, but there are so many nice restaurants within walking distance that we did not need to do any major cooking. You can't beat the location. Situated in Colonia Santiago -only a few blocks from Merida's zocalo (square) - it only took us a few minutes to walk to many of the fine museums, theaters and restaurants in the Centro. If you need to catch a bus or taxi, both are very easy to find from the house. For a bottle of wine or some cold cerveza, there's a nice little store right across the street. For your daily produce needs, the neighborhood market is only two blocks away where you can pick-up fresh mango, papaya, plantains and other tropical goodies. A good grocery store for basic necessities is right across the street from Parque Santiago. If you're lucky, a local baker will be selling his pan dulces in front of the Super Aki grocery store. "Canela, Maiz and Cilantro" was my favorite place to go for lunch and it's only 2 1/2 blocks from the house. We were so busy exploring, that we weren't around much to watch television, but a nice T.V. with cable and DVD player are set-up in the beautiful, spacious living room. Wi-fi made it easy to work and stay in touch with friends and family back home. The owner and his property manager were wonderful to work with. They were attentive to our questions and needs. We can't say enough nice things about Casa La Barenda and the beautiful city of Merida, Yucatan! Enjoy your stay!"

  • It's all good!!

"This is my second stay in the Casa and I can't imagine staying anywhere else in Merida ever again. The location of the house is perfect - a few blocks away and you're in the heart of the historic district, yet when it's time to wind down, the house is so quiet. The house itself was designed so well - the kitchen has everything you could need, everything in the house works! The lighting and sound system is very cool, and there's a waterfall into the pool which is as soothing as life gets as you're sitting outside sipping a cocktail...I miss it already. As this house is connected with Luz en Yucatan, you have access to everything that the hotel guests have. Seeking advice about what to do, where to go, setting up a taxi pick-up or airport transportation, etc. The house is one block from the hotel - it's really a perfect situation with it's relationship to the hotel. Tom and Donard are the friendliest and most authentic hosts you could possibly imagine and they and their staff have created a culture that is very warm and "can do". If I could give 6 stars I would!!"

  • Dennis & Tony

"We loved Casa Paul and the location. The Casa is very comfortable, stylish, and well equipt. The location is minutes away from a wonderful local market, grocery store, and in walking distance to downtown and many great places to eat. The Merida English Libray is very close and the volunteer staff is very helpful. We attended the Libray sponsored home tour one morning and wine tasting one evening. The pictures do not do the Casa justice. We plan to go back next year for two weeks. We cannot say enough nice things about the owner, the Casa, or Merida. We are totally hooked."

  • weekend getaway

"The house was beautiful. I view was spectacular! We did have a small issue with the A/C there was a small deposit for the electricity. We stayed for 7 nights. We went to Xcambo Ruins (right there) and to Uxmal and then to Lo-Tun. My kids loved it!!"
