"My family stayed for 3 nights at Sac Chich in March, and had a wonderful time. My wife and 4 kids (13,11,9,6) spent a lot of time at the pool, and the owners' dog Eva came over and played one afternoon (which was a huge hit with the kids). The grounds were beautiful, the building was unlike anywhere we stayed before, and it was almost more beautiful at night than during the day. The owners were staying at Casa Sisal next door, and we walked up one morning to check that out as well (very modern, very sleek, a great vacation rental as well). We'd stayed in Merida for a few days before this, so to have all of this open space was a real treat for the kids. We had the staff make breakfasts and dinners for us, and the food was REALLY good, and the "girls" (as Cyndy called them) were very friendly and helpful (it was fun testing our Spanish with them). All in all, we had a great stay, and were very sad leaving our hacienda."

KATHLEEN WHITE'S GUEST HOUSE IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED FOR THE SINGLE TRAVELER AS WELL AS COUPLES
"I stayed at the El Avenue Blanca for one month. April 14 to May 14, 2015. I was there for extensive dental work and was traveling alone. Being a 65 year old woman, it was difficult to stay in a hotel by myself. I would highly recommend this guest house, especially, for people traveling alone. Those who do not speak Spanish and do not know the city.
Kathleen and her family are very nice people. She was informative on places to visit and ways to spend the time I was not seeing the dentist. Also, she was able to call taxis for me - something I could not do myself since I do not speak Spanish.
Her inn is a reasonable place to spend time, and within reasonable walking distance to certain locations. If you stay with her for 1 month, you have your own bedroom and bathroom. You also have use of the kitchen, pool, CD library, garden areas and patios.
It was nice to have other people around me to talk to and share my adventures.
Again, I recommend her guest house for anyone traveling to Merida, Mexico for the first time."

"My husband and I just spent a week at Recuperacion. Our first trip to this area of the Yucatan peninsula. We didn't want to leave and can't wait to go back.
Terry (the owner) was so helpful. From our first inquiry about the property she provided valuable information and recommendations. Her insight and advice on everything from rental cars, to resturants, to the "don't miss" attractions was perfect.
The property has a fantastic local manager. Joan drove us around Chelem to show us the grocery stores, reaturants, where to buy the freshest fruits and vegetables, and of course the night life.
This is a "Lonely Planet," off the beaten path kind of place. The beautiful house is situated on the Gulf of Mexico in a small fishing village on the Yucatan peninsula. There is a fairly large number of ex pats in the area so if you don't speak Spanish (my husband and I don't speak a word) there are plenty of people to help translate. The local inhabitants are so friendly and helpful (to the point of drawing pictures for us if necessary ).
Chelem is not a resort town. Is a small fishing village filled with wonderful people. We drove all over the peninsula. We walked the beach and the village at night. Everyone we met was incredibly helpful. Chelem felt as safe as home.
So if you want to disengage from the rat race make this your next vacation. You won't regret it."

"My wife and two grown children absolutely loved our stay at Casa Sisal. Making the day trips we had planned became problematic for us as none of us wanted to leave the house. To say the house is beautiful does not do it justice. The layout, functionality and architectural design are stunning, and the house is even nicer than portrayed in the on line photos. The pool was gorgeous, as was the huge yard and large, open kitchen. The bedrooms and baths were large, beautiful and airy. We could not imagine a nicer place to stay."
