  • Casa La Barenda was our perfect Merida home away from home!

"My husband and I rented Casa La Barenda for two months and loved it! It is beautifully restored with many nice, artistic details that make it very comfortable for a short or long stay. We were so grateful to have the plunge pool and used it every day! The outdoor and indoor fountains were an extra-nice touch. The kitchen had everything we needed, but there are so many nice restaurants within walking distance that we did not need to do any major cooking. You can't beat the location. Situated in Colonia Santiago -only a few blocks from Merida's zocalo (square) - it only took us a few minutes to walk to many of the fine museums, theaters and restaurants in the Centro. If you need to catch a bus or taxi, both are very easy to find from the house. For a bottle of wine or some cold cerveza, there's a nice little store right across the street. For your daily produce needs, the neighborhood market is only two blocks away where you can pick-up fresh mango, papaya, plantains and other tropical goodies. A good grocery store for basic necessities is right across the street from Parque Santiago. If you're lucky, a local baker will be selling his pan dulces in front of the Super Aki grocery store. "Canela, Maiz and Cilantro" was my favorite place to go for lunch and it's only 2 1/2 blocks from the house. We were so busy exploring, that we weren't around much to watch television, but a nice T.V. with cable and DVD player are set-up in the beautiful, spacious living room. Wi-fi made it easy to work and stay in touch with friends and family back home. The owner and his property manager were wonderful to work with. They were attentive to our questions and needs. We can't say enough nice things about Casa La Barenda and the beautiful city of Merida, Yucatan! Enjoy your stay!"

  • Cold Wisconsin

"My family of 8 including 3 children absolutely loved our stay in Chelem. The home was amazing and the sunsets were fantastic. Hopefully we can come back again some day. Shelley helped us immensely with any need. All the good things about the property include the pool, hot tub and bar."

  • A good deal for the budget traveler.

"We enjoyed meeting Kathleen, who has set up her house in this authentic neighborhood with the budget traveler in mind. She was very helpful in assisting us in every way in order to make our visit to Merida enjoyable and memorable. If you are the adventurous type and don't mind escaping from certain luxuries, such as tv or cd player, or even a clock in your room, then this is the place for you. Our room was large with a cozy en suite bathroom and the outside seating areas were welcome retreats after a day of sightseeing. This house allows you to meet other travelers from around the world, such as we did, two students from Germany who were here for several months studying Comparative Literature. We always felt safe in this neighborhood, even after dark walking back from the main plaza."
