  • Tired of the big all inclusives?

"We found a place where we could slide open the patio door and hear the waves hitting the shore. We also found a location close to a town where one could find all kinds of eating places as well as shop for our groceries for our meals. We rented bikes and rode them to town daily. The condo is safe and secure with an all night guard. There is a fantastic manager and staff to make your stay easy and without troubles. The guests are friendly and the view of the sea and the sunsets are sights to be seen. The beach can be used to walk or swim or just relax in the sun. The condo is clean and has everything one needs for an enjoyable stay. It will be one of our most memorable vacations."

  • Perfect vacation!

"Just spent a week at this condo in Puerto Morelos and it was amazing! It is in a great location. Puerto Morelos is a quiet town away from the craziness of cancun and playa del carmen, but still an easy drive to both. The building only has 9 units, and we were the only ones there that week, so we had the pool all to ourselves! The condo is very clean, well-stocked, and has good wireless internet. If you are on the fence between the mass-marketed all-inclusive resorts and a private condo, I highly recommend going with the private condo, and put this one at the top of your list. It is just as relaxing and much more authentic way to experience the area."

  • Total Relaxation!

"Family vacation for grandparents, kids, inlaws and grandkids. All adults came totally exhausted and in need of warmth and relaxation. Achieved both in roomy house, wonderful pool, proximity of beach and downtown."

  • What an amazing property, location, and staff...best all around trip we've ever had!

"We highly recommend a stay in Akumal at Casa Kukulcan under the ownership of Mike McGetrick… one of the best vacations we’ve ever had! Mike’s design of Casa Kukulcan teases out Mayan architecture into a contemporary building including a pyramid front and an entry reflective of a Mayan purification tunnel. ‘Purified’ is how you feel as you walk in the entry that produces a gorgeous home of tile floors, dark wood accents, and a full two-story glass visual out the back at the lap pool and ocean beyond, framed in by palm trees. Our extended family of 12 ranged from 8 to 81 and the house easily accommodated needs for all. The large kitchen and professional surfaces allowed for food prep plus hanging out space and the two dining table options easily sat us all. Large air conditioned bedrooms with individual temperature controls, and comfortable beds and pillows, provided your choice of sleeping arrangements. My wife and I chose to sleep in the master suite with all doors and windows open to allow the warm breezes to pass over us. We fell asleep listening to the surf (bugs not a problem) and awoke to the songs of the melodious blackbird and kiskadee. The sunrise was also available from our master suite bed or from the chairs on the veranda …with a full cup of a Mexican mocha in hand, it was indeed perfection! Casa Kukulcan offers so much that if we did nothing else during our stay, we could fully enjoy the property, swim in the pool, or snorkel in the ocean beyond. We did that a number of days including our first full day so we could rest from travel and fully absorb our luxurious spot. We drove a few mornings into Akumal beach (just around the back of the Akumal Dive Shop at 8am) to snorkel with an assortment of sea turtles and stingrays as they grazed on the sea grass. We visited Mayan ruins as well, but a highlight of our stay was a private tour by the owner of the Santa Cruz Cenote. Carlos was very helpful and made the arrangements, but I would advise making them well in advance. The owner knows his cave and cenote well, speaks great English, and is clear about his desire to protect it while also sharing this remarkable little piece of earth with others. Thank you Mike and staff for providing the back-drop to a magical vacation! The Vickland and Wilson Families"

Yucatan, Mayan Riviera Travel Tips

Mayan Resorts Along the Yucatan Peninsula

On your next trip to the Yucatan Peninsula, consider traveling to Mayan resorts. The Mayan Riviera in Mexico is one of the more fascinating destination spots in the world. You have tropical beaches, ancient ruins, and a myriad of marine and wildlife, all steps away from Yucatan vacation rentals. The Mayan Riviera is more than one city; in fact, it is about 11 cities. Popular destinations for Yucatan villas include but are not limited to Playa del Carmen, Playacar, Akumal, Tulum, Puerto Aventuras, Puerto Morelos, and Xpu-Ha.

Forested Scenery near Yucatan Vacation Rentals

As you drive along route 307 to reach Yucatan vacation rentals, you will discover the land is flat and the scenery is akin to a flat forested region much like Canada or Europe. Interspersed along the highway are boulder-laden cliffs that will lead you down to clean, white sandy beaches. Once you arrive at Yucatan villas, you are able to sit on a private beach all day watching the waves roll in or playing in the surf. Playa del Carmen is the most popular Mayan Riviera destination where plenty of Mayan resorts await.

Yucatan Villas by Fifth Avenue

If you elect to stay in Playa del Carmen rather than other Mayan Riviera destinations, you can walk down Fifth Avenue on the local strip and pet wild lions, play with boa constrictors, or watch Maruichi bands. Many of the Yucatan villas are situated on the strip to provide you the most active nightlife and access to the beautiful beach. Cruises dock close to the strip, filling up the town with new faces each Tuesday and Thursday. Because so many cruise ships dock there, you'll find many jewelry stores, arts and crafts stores, and other retail shops that offer wonderful deals.

Mayan Resorts Provide Whale Shark Sightings

Water sports are the most attractive attractions in the Mayan Riviera. From Mayan resorts, you can head out to sea on a deep sea fishing tour or scuba dive boat. If you truly want a diving experience you will never forget, make sure the dive boat is heading to the known locations where the whale sharks hang out. Whale sharks can be very elusive creatures but dive boats in the Mayan Riviera have managed to find areas where they tend to hang out. At the end of your day with water sports, it may be time to head back to your Yucatan vacation rentals for a home-cooked Mexican meal.
