  • Needed some sun - found paradise

"I needed to escape the dreary weather in the midwest and planned a trip to Akumal with my active parents. Could not have been happier with the apartment. It was so beautiful, new and clean. Well furnished without being cluttered. Wide windows with screens and shutters. Could keep the windows open all night and enjoy the breeze, but shutters kept the light out and screens kept the bugs out. Enjoyed cocktails and watching the sun set as well as breakfast on the deck. The bathrooms were well designed - the shower in the main bathroom was great - large and great water pressure. The location was blessedly quite, not many people about which I enjoyed. Also felt quite safe the entire trip. Was pleasantly surprised that great beach towels and snorkeling masks were available in the apartment. Nice touch. The WIFI was a bit spotty, but that was ok - this vacation wasn't about electronic communication, it was about enjoying company. The washing machine is for the maid to use - she will do a wash for $5. Didn't have any laundry to do, but others should be aware. If you enjoy cooking while on vacation, be aware, like all rental places, the chef knives are dull, but that is to be expected. Other than that it equiped enough for us to prepare a dinner or two and all breakfasts. We are not beach people, but did enjoy the walk to the beach and along the shore. Was not crowded at all in February. This place does require a car to get around, but would rather do that and not feel like I was living on top of people like it appeared in Half Moon Bay. Nothing was very far away and the roads are in fine condition and everything was easy to get to - restaurants, Akumal beach, Tulum, the grocery store, gas station, etc. If you want a quite beautiful retreat in the sun, this is the place for you!"

  • What more could one ask?

"Everything about Casa de las Cupulas is well thought out. Located slightly off the beaten tourist path, the villa overlooks the Caribbean on the island of Isla Mujeres, a short ferry ride from Cancun, Mexico. The island itself is a quaint, friendly place with warm white beaches on one side and dramatic cliffs on the other where the Caribbean surf crashes constantly. The villa is located on the sparsely populated southern end of Isla within walking distance of the Mayan ruins on the southernmost tip. The elevated stone patio within the walls of Casa is an ideal place to sip coffee while watching the sun rise over the Caribbean. The architecture, furnishings, and decor of Casa de las Cupulas are beautiful, interesting and unique, creating an atmosphere of relaxation. The greatest feature of this place, however, is the service provided by David (the owner) and the staff. Amira, the cook/housekeeper, prepared wonderful dishes for us daily. Everything she served was made from scratch, including an endless supply of guacamole, pico, fresh squeezed orange juice and fresh fruit. Evening meals were works of art. I spoke to David daily and his advice about the island - what to do, where to go, who to call - was invaluable. I called him several times and he never missed answering his phone. I was with a party of ten, and the villa accomodated us generously without ever feeling crowded. To summarize, there are not enough stars to adequately rate the quality of Cas de las Cupulas."

  • Well traveled foursome over 50

"2 couples who travel together decided to spend a 30 day vacation in Cozumel. We know the island well and when we found this condo it was perfect! It's beautifully decorated, great cleaning and cooking service, not to mention the massages available in the condo. You need nothing when you arrive - the large patios are wonderful for sunrise and sunsets - so much activity to watch or take part in is just steps down the beautiful beach. We rented a car, did our shopping trips (they even have Sam's on Cozumel now) and loved every wonderful moment. At different times during the month our families joined us and everyone had a great time. The youngest member was 2 and all ages after that - The time went too quickly but we can't wait to come back. We even rented the beautiful efficiency next door for part of our family and that is equally wonderful. Washer and dryer, wonderful kitchen and everything you could possibly want - it's a wonderful, fully stocked vacation paradise."

  • The perfect condo!

"My husband and I stayed in the condo for 4 nights, celebrating our 25th anniversary. It really was the perfect place, a great location, gorgeous views and very comfortable. We had the pleasure of meeting Patsy when we arrived, as she was there to deal with the new TV system. There was a very nice basket full of goodies waiting for us upon our arrival, even a bottle of champagne. The condo is beautiful and has everything you need for your stay. Reef Residencias is in a great location and an easy drive to town. We had stayed 4 nights in Playa prior to our stay in Cozumel, but wished that we had planned more nights in this condo. We hope to return there again soon, Patsy was very helpful and great to work with! Thanks again for letting us stay at this perfect place."

Yucatan, Mayan Riviera Travel Tips

Mayan Resorts Along the Yucatan Peninsula

On your next trip to the Yucatan Peninsula, consider traveling to Mayan resorts. The Mayan Riviera in Mexico is one of the more fascinating destination spots in the world. You have tropical beaches, ancient ruins, and a myriad of marine and wildlife, all steps away from Yucatan vacation rentals. The Mayan Riviera is more than one city; in fact, it is about 11 cities. Popular destinations for Yucatan villas include but are not limited to Playa del Carmen, Playacar, Akumal, Tulum, Puerto Aventuras, Puerto Morelos, and Xpu-Ha.

Forested Scenery near Yucatan Vacation Rentals

As you drive along route 307 to reach Yucatan vacation rentals, you will discover the land is flat and the scenery is akin to a flat forested region much like Canada or Europe. Interspersed along the highway are boulder-laden cliffs that will lead you down to clean, white sandy beaches. Once you arrive at Yucatan villas, you are able to sit on a private beach all day watching the waves roll in or playing in the surf. Playa del Carmen is the most popular Mayan Riviera destination where plenty of Mayan resorts await.

Yucatan Villas by Fifth Avenue

If you elect to stay in Playa del Carmen rather than other Mayan Riviera destinations, you can walk down Fifth Avenue on the local strip and pet wild lions, play with boa constrictors, or watch Maruichi bands. Many of the Yucatan villas are situated on the strip to provide you the most active nightlife and access to the beautiful beach. Cruises dock close to the strip, filling up the town with new faces each Tuesday and Thursday. Because so many cruise ships dock there, you'll find many jewelry stores, arts and crafts stores, and other retail shops that offer wonderful deals.

Mayan Resorts Provide Whale Shark Sightings

Water sports are the most attractive attractions in the Mayan Riviera. From Mayan resorts, you can head out to sea on a deep sea fishing tour or scuba dive boat. If you truly want a diving experience you will never forget, make sure the dive boat is heading to the known locations where the whale sharks hang out. Whale sharks can be very elusive creatures but dive boats in the Mayan Riviera have managed to find areas where they tend to hang out. At the end of your day with water sports, it may be time to head back to your Yucatan vacation rentals for a home-cooked Mexican meal.
