  • Amazing!

"This was the best vacation ever and it was due to this wonderful property. We have stayed at many VRBO locations in the U.S. and Europe and this was the cleanest property for sure. Everything was perfect! Location, quiet neighborhood and walking distance to everything. We strongly recommend this VRBO. Carla was wonderful to work with! Thank you and we plan to return."

  • Paradise only 4 hours away

"We've been going to Cancun, staying at Villas Marlin for about 20 years. Due to retirement, property sales, etc we've stayed at multiple different condos. This was by far the BEST! Aileen's condo was not only spacious (twice as much room as typical Villas Marlin), clean, and very comfortable, it was steps from the pool and the beach. My husband and I are in our early 50's and traveled with his parents who are in their late 70's. There was more than enough space for the 4 of us to "live" together for 2 weeks. The location couldn't be better. Cancun's best shopping is either across the street or 2 blocks away. Kukulcan Mall (right behind Villas Marlin) has a new grocery store that is awesome! A couple miles down the road (north) there is a high end grocery store that rivals the best gourmet stores in the states. There are multiple GREAT restaurants within walking distance. This is the first year we didn't rent a car and we never missed it. Make sure you go to Lima (literally across the street) and La Habituela (right next door to Lima). Best coconut shrimp is at Fish Fritanga (next door north of La Habituela). Aileen's condo afforded maximum spoilage at a bargain price. Ledy is simply the best. If I could take home one souvenir, it would have been her! She kept the condo absolutely spotless and even did our laundry! She offered to cook for us and while her English is somewhat limited, there was never any problem conversing with her. The poolside grill was awesome too-many days we'd skip lunch at the condo and just order guacamole and a pina colada for less than 7.00 US! The staff at Villas Marlin was always friendly and courteous. I felt like they welcomed us as though we were owners. Aileen was awesome to do business with. She was timely with her responses, great at answering questions, and even emailed to make sure we got in OK and to see if we were happy or if there was anything she could do for us. We will definitely be back, and we will definitely be renting from Aileen again. If you have a choice-rent this condo! You won't regret it!"

  • Best spot on the bay for a fabulous beach vacay!

"Our party of 10 (2 families, 8 kids ages 4-17) just had the best vacation at Casa Playa Maya (CPM) and an adjacent casita. We will definitely be back! Over the years I've rented a home in Playacar (now hyper expensive and crowded), a condo on Half Moon Bay (N Akumal, now also very crowded and beach access can be difficult, IF you want to fight the seaweed invasion), and a home on Jade Bay (S Akumal, very pricey and the rocky beach access means you have to go elsewhere to enjoy that); CPM outshines them all. First, location, location, location... Casa Playa Maya is in an ideal spot on Soliman Bay--right in the center with direct access to calm, clear, warm turquoise water and incredible snorkeling. We saw turtles, rays, eels, and too many species of colorful fish to count. We were in the water or on it the whole time. The seaweed invasion plaguing the area this year is barely noticeable at CPM, while the mansions at the ends of the bay (particularly south) are inundated with the stinky stuff. Hardworking caretakers raking and hauling simply can't keep up. Second, you couldn't ask for more diligent, attentive, and kind caretakers. Pedro meticulously cleaned the beach and grounds early each morning, and cut coconuts from the trees for the kids to enjoy. Lidia's cooking is incredible--don't miss her mixed seafood ceviche and guacamole. We enjoyed it with dinner on arrival after a long travel day, and had her prepare it again a couple days later for our happy hour. She also does dishes and makes beds, cleans baths, and most importantly, gets the sand out of the house daily. Bill, the owner, is SO helpful, laid back, and accommodating--his one-page rental agreement is a true testament to his nature to keep things simple, as well as the trust he has in his visitors. The home is cozy, comfortable, clean, and well maintained. It's a beach bungalow, not fancy by any means but has everything one needs for a comfortable stay that provides the optimal beach experience. I love the local architecture and how the home blends in with the area; our kids thought it was SO cool to sleep in the loft right under the palapa. Kitchen is well equipped. Internet is mostly reliable. The bedrooms are air conditioned and HUGE, with great patios and fridges. Inflatables available to accommodate any sleeping arrangement. There is no "common" bath though, so everyone has to use the ones in the bedrooms. We simply loved it and can't wait to return. Highly recommended!"

  • Secluded Retreat

"We stayed at Casa de Suenos in early May, 2014. Note that when you rent this place you are renting a room within it, not the entire house. The upstairs has two bedrooms and a private kitchen. The downstairs has two bedrooms and shared kitchen. We were not told which room we were getting when we rented so you may want to know just fyi. When we were there the battery back up was not working so we were not allowed to use the ceiling fan in the bedroom. Most nights it was fine but on nights with no wind it was brutal. Check that this is fixed before you go. The caretakers are expats from the US and they were wonderful and very helpful. We loved them. Be aware they have some pets that wander the property which didn't bother us at all but you may want to know this if you are allergic or have an aversion to them. The grounds were very well maintained and the room was very clean. We snorkeled right out the door at the reef which was great. Diving was great with the XTC Dive Center and fishing with Costa de Cocos was very fun. Overall a fun trip to a beautiful remote part of Mexico."

Yucatan, Mayan Riviera Travel Tips

Mayan Resorts Along the Yucatan Peninsula

On your next trip to the Yucatan Peninsula, consider traveling to Mayan resorts. The Mayan Riviera in Mexico is one of the more fascinating destination spots in the world. You have tropical beaches, ancient ruins, and a myriad of marine and wildlife, all steps away from Yucatan vacation rentals. The Mayan Riviera is more than one city; in fact, it is about 11 cities. Popular destinations for Yucatan villas include but are not limited to Playa del Carmen, Playacar, Akumal, Tulum, Puerto Aventuras, Puerto Morelos, and Xpu-Ha.

Forested Scenery near Yucatan Vacation Rentals

As you drive along route 307 to reach Yucatan vacation rentals, you will discover the land is flat and the scenery is akin to a flat forested region much like Canada or Europe. Interspersed along the highway are boulder-laden cliffs that will lead you down to clean, white sandy beaches. Once you arrive at Yucatan villas, you are able to sit on a private beach all day watching the waves roll in or playing in the surf. Playa del Carmen is the most popular Mayan Riviera destination where plenty of Mayan resorts await.

Yucatan Villas by Fifth Avenue

If you elect to stay in Playa del Carmen rather than other Mayan Riviera destinations, you can walk down Fifth Avenue on the local strip and pet wild lions, play with boa constrictors, or watch Maruichi bands. Many of the Yucatan villas are situated on the strip to provide you the most active nightlife and access to the beautiful beach. Cruises dock close to the strip, filling up the town with new faces each Tuesday and Thursday. Because so many cruise ships dock there, you'll find many jewelry stores, arts and crafts stores, and other retail shops that offer wonderful deals.

Mayan Resorts Provide Whale Shark Sightings

Water sports are the most attractive attractions in the Mayan Riviera. From Mayan resorts, you can head out to sea on a deep sea fishing tour or scuba dive boat. If you truly want a diving experience you will never forget, make sure the dive boat is heading to the known locations where the whale sharks hang out. Whale sharks can be very elusive creatures but dive boats in the Mayan Riviera have managed to find areas where they tend to hang out. At the end of your day with water sports, it may be time to head back to your Yucatan vacation rentals for a home-cooked Mexican meal.
