  • Our Best Mexico Vacation Yet

"After travelling to Playa del Carmen 4 times, we decided it was time for a change. Although, we enjoyed Playa, we would catch ourselves wondering if there might be a place that would combine what we love about Mexico (e.g.: clear turquoise water, white sand beaches, delicious Mexican and Mayan food, etc.) without sacrificing peace, natural beauty and authenticity of the destination. In other words, we were getting tired of 5th Ave with its pushy sales people, chain restaurants and most of all crowds and noise that are impossible to avoid in Playa. During one of our trips, we heard Akumal being mentioned as a great snorkeling spot. After doing some research, we thought: “Wow, maybe we finally found the perfect place!” And we were not disappointed, to say the least. Just one hour away from Cancun, Akumal is a hidden gem. Spectacular Half Moon Bay, amazing snorkeling, fascinating wildlife, relaxed friendly atmosphere make this peaceful and secluded destination magical. I could write a lot more about the charm of Akumal but I should get to the main reason for this review. What played the biggest role in turning our vacation into experience of a lifetime was the gorgeous condo that we stayed at. We loved everything about it! Whitney was a pleasure to work with. She made booking process seem easy, responded to all of our questions and even provided Welcome Packet filled with valuable tips and information. On the way to the condo, we stopped by Mega and stocked up on groceries. We cooked dinners in the condo every night and found the kitchen well equipped and even stocked with spices. Upon arrival to La Sirena, we were greeted by a staff member, who showed us to our condo, helped us with luggage and provided helpful information about the area, amenities, appliances, etc. Every day while we were out and about, the maid came by. Once low, drinking water was refilled right away. No matter who we talked to at La Sirena, they were always friendly and happy to help. For lunch, we usually went out. Seafood at La Cueva Del Pescador was amazing. La Buena Vida had a neat location, friendly atmosphere and a good selection of tasty food. Lol-Ha was right on the beach and my favorite spot for margaritas. We also spent a couple of days in Xel-Ha that had great buffets (included in price of admission ticket). For activities, we enjoyed snorkeling at Half Moon Bay, Xel-ha and Yal-ku lagoon. We had unforgettable time and are already counting down days to our next trip!"

  • One glorious month!

"We rented this condo for a month to spend Christmas and New Years with our adult children. The condo was extremely comfortable and clean. It is exactly as described, no surprises here! We enjoyed the rooftop palapa where you could see for miles all round. The unit was well appointed and the housekeepers were great and came weekly. Jordi the property manager was very helpful although we rarely required his assistance. The snorkelling was excellent, we pretty much went everyday, even snorkelled down to Chankanaab a few times! The grounds were lovely and the grounds keeper (can't remember his name) worked very hard keeping up with sweeping, cleaning pool and area as well as the beach. He also cut some coconuts from the trees and gave them to us to drink the milk inside! What a treat! It is next door to Playa Uvas Beach Club where you could grab a Marguerita and a bite to eat if you did not feel like cooking! Chankanaab was a short walk south where we spent a day. The Money Bar Restaurant was about a 10 minute walk North where they offered drinks and dining. They would have "Happy Hour" everyday from 5:00 to 7:00 pm offering 2 for 1 drinks! There was a live band on Thursday to Sunday evenings which was very good, lot's if people would be dancing! We highly recommend the rental of this unit and hope to be back again in the future. Thanks again Anis & Stella for allowing us to rent your beautiful condo, it was every thing we hoped it would be!"

  • Perfect vacation!

"Just spent a week at this condo in Puerto Morelos and it was amazing! It is in a great location. Puerto Morelos is a quiet town away from the craziness of cancun and playa del carmen, but still an easy drive to both. The building only has 9 units, and we were the only ones there that week, so we had the pool all to ourselves! The condo is very clean, well-stocked, and has good wireless internet. If you are on the fence between the mass-marketed all-inclusive resorts and a private condo, I highly recommend going with the private condo, and put this one at the top of your list. It is just as relaxing and much more authentic way to experience the area."

  • Perfect vacation spot for our family!!

"Our family of 5 just returned from a wonderful stay in this very comfortable, spacious, and lovely condo. It was even larger than the pictures show! We like to get up and go, and that's why we chose Puerto Aventuras. It's such an easy trip to Akumal (where you can swim with turtles at the public beach, snorkel at Yal Ku lagoon, and eat a delicious and reasonably priced meal at La Buena Vida Restaurant), Tulum (more great beaches and Zamas restaurant), Playa del Carmen (for shopping and nightlife), and all the eco parks (Xel Ha is good for activities and Xcaret good for butterfly exhibit and the evening show). But even if you just want to hang out and have a truly relaxing vacation, you can't go wrong with this condo. Sitting on the large balcony, sipping mojitos, and looking at the ocean and pool was great. My kids (9-year-old twin boys and an 11-year-old daughter) loved kayaking, playing at the pool and ocean, and even just hanging out in the condo in the evenings, watching movies together. The owner was very helpful with great directions (we got a rental car) and useful recommendations. So was Oscar, the building manager. The AC wasn't working well in one of the rooms, and the problem was fixed right away. We liked the security of being in a gated community and of being one floor up from ground level. We got our groceries across the street at the Chedaui, but I must say, it was tough to stay hungry and select food in there with the strong fishy odor. The Mega or WalMart in Playa are easier on us spoiled Americans. We took the advice of other reviewers and ate breakfast at the Omni -- good food. We also ate at Café Ole (I think that was the name). This wasn't our favorite meal -- and they gave a bad exchange rate. It is a good idea to have your own calculator, because if you ask what something costs in dollars, many waiters, gas station attendants, and shop keepers will do the math on a calculator and then tell you a few dollars above that number. Do your own math and hand them the right amount if you don't use pesos. We would certainly recommend this condo to anyone we know!"

Yucatan, Mayan Riviera Travel Tips

Mayan Resorts Along the Yucatan Peninsula

On your next trip to the Yucatan Peninsula, consider traveling to Mayan resorts. The Mayan Riviera in Mexico is one of the more fascinating destination spots in the world. You have tropical beaches, ancient ruins, and a myriad of marine and wildlife, all steps away from Yucatan vacation rentals. The Mayan Riviera is more than one city; in fact, it is about 11 cities. Popular destinations for Yucatan villas include but are not limited to Playa del Carmen, Playacar, Akumal, Tulum, Puerto Aventuras, Puerto Morelos, and Xpu-Ha.

Forested Scenery near Yucatan Vacation Rentals

As you drive along route 307 to reach Yucatan vacation rentals, you will discover the land is flat and the scenery is akin to a flat forested region much like Canada or Europe. Interspersed along the highway are boulder-laden cliffs that will lead you down to clean, white sandy beaches. Once you arrive at Yucatan villas, you are able to sit on a private beach all day watching the waves roll in or playing in the surf. Playa del Carmen is the most popular Mayan Riviera destination where plenty of Mayan resorts await.

Yucatan Villas by Fifth Avenue

If you elect to stay in Playa del Carmen rather than other Mayan Riviera destinations, you can walk down Fifth Avenue on the local strip and pet wild lions, play with boa constrictors, or watch Maruichi bands. Many of the Yucatan villas are situated on the strip to provide you the most active nightlife and access to the beautiful beach. Cruises dock close to the strip, filling up the town with new faces each Tuesday and Thursday. Because so many cruise ships dock there, you'll find many jewelry stores, arts and crafts stores, and other retail shops that offer wonderful deals.

Mayan Resorts Provide Whale Shark Sightings

Water sports are the most attractive attractions in the Mayan Riviera. From Mayan resorts, you can head out to sea on a deep sea fishing tour or scuba dive boat. If you truly want a diving experience you will never forget, make sure the dive boat is heading to the known locations where the whale sharks hang out. Whale sharks can be very elusive creatures but dive boats in the Mayan Riviera have managed to find areas where they tend to hang out. At the end of your day with water sports, it may be time to head back to your Yucatan vacation rentals for a home-cooked Mexican meal.
