  • a little bit of paradise

"Our family really enjoyed our stay at Nicte Ha. The decor was beautiful, the ocean views were outstanding, the house was clean and well-stocked. The house felt secluded and quiet, just what we wanted in a vacation. Maria prepared a delicious dinner for us, and the house was always clean. Jose, the gardener, was SUPER! Friendly, helpful and a really nice guy. He rinsed our rental car every day. Having said that, future guests should be aware of a couple of things: (1) although the house description lists a washer and dryer, the laundry room is locked, with a sign that says the housekeeper will do the laundry for a charge. We were disappointed, as we had planned to do laundry our last day (Sunday), which was the maid's day off. Rather misleading in the description. (2) While the house IS beautiful, it is a bit frayed around the edges. Just a few little annoyances with non-working fans, lights, cracked tiles inside and outside. (3) CHECK the HOUSE KEYS before you leave the house locked. Only one key fit the front door, and we could never get the second front door to unlock with EITHER key. (4) I wouldn't bring young children here; the tiles inside and out are extremely slick when wet, and the stairs to the upper rooms are steep and slick as well. (5) On Thursday, we left our beach towels to be washed, but we didn't receive replacements until Saturday afternoon. (6) The wi-fi is not reliable, and is spotty upstairs. Plus, the instructions we were given to log in were not correct. Since we needed to be in touch with family in the States, this was a bit disconcerting. Would we stay here again? Probably. Just be aware of the hiccups."

  • Perfect location

"This is the 2nd year we have stayed in this condo at El Faro and we love it. The location is perfect and the condo is very clean and comfortable! The owners make sure you have everything you need for a great vacation! Everything you could want is in walking distance. Shopping, great bars and restaurants and beautiful white sand beaches."

  • Great Location

"This condo is in a great location right on the beach of Half Moon Bay which is a less chaotic area than the more crowded Akumal Bay. We loved that we had the ability to walk (or take a short drive) to Akumal Plaza and the beach there but it was also nice to leave those more crowded areas behind and return to our quieter neighborhood. We had a car and I was happy to have it for day trips like Tulum, Coba and Rio Secreto(highly recommend the river tour). One of the smartest things we did was hire a chef at the owners suggestion. Daveed was fantastic to work with and we had dinner in the fridge waiting for us when we arrived - authentic enchiladas were heaven at the end of a long travel day. Later in the week Daveed came to the unit and we had a cooking lesson for the family which was fun for all. Bring reef shoes as the beach entrance is rocky - the upside is some easy fun snorkeling right on your doorstep. The lagoon is a 10 minute walk away with excellent snorkeling in more protected water. We found with all our excursions it made a HUGE difference to go early before the crowds arrive - especially snorkeling in the lagoon and swimming with the turtles in Akumal Bay which can get exceptionally crowded when the vans and tour buses from hotels show up. No laundry in the unit but you can get laundry done inexpensively across the freeway. Kitchen was well stocked. Owner is responsive. Daily maid service was nice option."

  • Clean and Stylish with Gorgeous Views

"We loved our time in Puerto Morelos and especially enjoyed the accommodations in Derek and Alice's condo. In terms of facilities, I'm not sure condos get much nicer than this in Puerto Morelos. It looked just like the pictures indicated, it was clean, stylish, and had the best access to the pool and beach area. My wife and I, along with our almost-two-year-old, loved hanging by the pool and swinging on the hammock on the porch at night as we gazed up at the stars to the soothing sounds of the ocean. The location was nice - set away from the bustle of town, but not too far as to make going into town too difficult. The walk to town took us about 15 minutes, and though it felt very safe even at night, it does wind through a dusty old trucking road and is not scenic. A minor drawback for me would be Palma Real (the condo complex)'s proximity to a large shipping dock. It's not an awful thing, but it did takeaway from the otherwise stunning vista from the chase lounges by the pool. That said, we got over that quickly and even learned to embrace the shipping dock at times. Overall, we had a wonderful experience here and recommend Derek and Alice's place highly!"

Yucatan, Mayan Riviera Travel Tips

Mayan Resorts Along the Yucatan Peninsula

On your next trip to the Yucatan Peninsula, consider traveling to Mayan resorts. The Mayan Riviera in Mexico is one of the more fascinating destination spots in the world. You have tropical beaches, ancient ruins, and a myriad of marine and wildlife, all steps away from Yucatan vacation rentals. The Mayan Riviera is more than one city; in fact, it is about 11 cities. Popular destinations for Yucatan villas include but are not limited to Playa del Carmen, Playacar, Akumal, Tulum, Puerto Aventuras, Puerto Morelos, and Xpu-Ha.

Forested Scenery near Yucatan Vacation Rentals

As you drive along route 307 to reach Yucatan vacation rentals, you will discover the land is flat and the scenery is akin to a flat forested region much like Canada or Europe. Interspersed along the highway are boulder-laden cliffs that will lead you down to clean, white sandy beaches. Once you arrive at Yucatan villas, you are able to sit on a private beach all day watching the waves roll in or playing in the surf. Playa del Carmen is the most popular Mayan Riviera destination where plenty of Mayan resorts await.

Yucatan Villas by Fifth Avenue

If you elect to stay in Playa del Carmen rather than other Mayan Riviera destinations, you can walk down Fifth Avenue on the local strip and pet wild lions, play with boa constrictors, or watch Maruichi bands. Many of the Yucatan villas are situated on the strip to provide you the most active nightlife and access to the beautiful beach. Cruises dock close to the strip, filling up the town with new faces each Tuesday and Thursday. Because so many cruise ships dock there, you'll find many jewelry stores, arts and crafts stores, and other retail shops that offer wonderful deals.

Mayan Resorts Provide Whale Shark Sightings

Water sports are the most attractive attractions in the Mayan Riviera. From Mayan resorts, you can head out to sea on a deep sea fishing tour or scuba dive boat. If you truly want a diving experience you will never forget, make sure the dive boat is heading to the known locations where the whale sharks hang out. Whale sharks can be very elusive creatures but dive boats in the Mayan Riviera have managed to find areas where they tend to hang out. At the end of your day with water sports, it may be time to head back to your Yucatan vacation rentals for a home-cooked Mexican meal.
