"Majestic. Artistic. Beautiful. Relaxing. Wildlife sanctuary. These are some of the words that come to mind after spending a week at Gracias a la Vida. I will review the (1) grounds,
(2) the house, (3) and conclude with four helpful recommendations.
-GROUNDS: The house is in a large property with beautiful gardens and hills, placed strategically to provide breathtaking views of the Villarica Volcano and the Lake. The gardens have been carefully designed with colorful flowers that attract bees, hummingbirds, and a variety of beautiful birds. Our kids loved playing with the cats. You will see Hindu and Buddhist statues that add an Asian flavor to the gardens. The caretaker’s house and the other rental cabin are far enough as not to affect privacy or the view. It is very peaceful and pleasant to the eye, and also a dream location for nature photographers!
-HOUSE: The house was carefully and beautifully designed with open spaces, large windows, and glass doors. When we woke up the first morning and saw the lake and volcano views, we could not avoid saying repeatedly “wow, how beautiful!” We loved waking up in the morning with a full view of the lake and wildlife. We loved taking showers while seeing the volcano as if it was perfectly placed centered in the window for our enjoyment. We also loved using the washer and dryer to do laundry while still having a nice view of the volcano. The wall colors and the art displayed in each room created an atmosphere that celebrated beauty. We even enjoyed small details like the handles of the glass doors and windows, the beautiful copper sinks, the double shower heads, and the wooden ceiling. The spacious deck on the flat roof provided amazing views, so we could have dinner while enjoying the sunset or relax in the Jacuzzi while enjoying the night sky. The house is in itself a piece of art. Indeed, an unforgettable experience!
-RECOMMENDATIONS: (1) If you plan to do face time, skype calls, synchronize files through dropbox, or watch Netflix, plan to double or triple the internet package. The internet access is not unlimited; rather, you have to buy a package that allows you to only use the amount of data you paid for. (2) Take ear plugs if you are a light sleeper like me. Windy nights can wake you up. (3) Bring extra toilet paper if staying for several days. The rental only includes initial supply. (4) Spend some days just enjoying Gracias a la Vida without having to go out. You’ll love it."
