Santiago Travel Tips

Traveling to Santiago Vacation Rentals

Santiago is the capital of Chile and the main travel hub for the country. The Comodoro Arturo Merino Benitez International Airport is the facility that hosts both international and domestic air traffic. The national carrier operates most international and domestic flights within Chile. There are regular flight connections to Lima, Peru, Buenos Aires in Argentina, and Sao Paolo in Brazil. Travelers that are coming from Europe, North America or other parts of the globe can route via any of these cities to get a connection on to Santiago. Chile’s national railway provides transport to the country’s central and southern region. If you want to explore outside of the city limits, this is a good way to get around. In Santiago itself, the city is very congested in terms of traffic. Your best option is to use the Transantiago public transport system. You can purchase a travel pass which is the most affordable way to travel around the city. There are five main lines which intersect and provide easy access to the sites of Santiago.

The cathedral on the Plaza de Armas is a beautiful building dating back to 1745. The Presidential Palace was built over several decades and only completed in the early 1800s. Today, it is the seat of the Chilean government. Also on the Plaza de Armas, you can visit the National Museum which has more than 12,000 exhibits relating to Chile’s history and culture. The Fine Arts Museum houses an impressive collection of pre-Columbian era artworks. The city of Santiago has several parks which are open daily for recreation and relaxation. Just outside of Santiago to the east, there are several top-quality ski resorts. In the winter months, these areas become a hive of activity.
