  • This Spot Can't Be Beat

"Honestly, we stayed in two wonderful locations, but this one can't be beat. First off, the apartment is great. It was very clean and spacious. Wi-fi, cable, and laundry all inside. Location was phenomenal. No need for taxi. ATM, stores, restaurants, etc. all within walking distance. Also place was very secure (three locks to get in AND out). The Owner was great and flexible. We changed our flight to return to Medellin a day early, and he made sure we were taken care of. Even with us coming in very late, he still managed to accomadate us. We will probably only rent from this owner if we return to Colombia again. Aside from his properties being excellent, he and his staff are like the icing on the cake. For first time visitors, we had a great and problem-free experience."

  • Close to everything but away from it all

"La Casa de Curia is the absolute perfect homebase for exploring a bit of Ecuador's Ruta del Spondylus. The house is very comfortable and was ideal for our group of 5 (although it could easily accommodate more). It's location high on a hill allows you to take advantage of the refreshing ocean breezes, while being close enough to the beach to hear the crashing waves. And with access to a private and nearly deserted beach just a short walk down the hill, you might not want to leave the property at all. Once you do get motivated to leave, there is much to do and see within a short drive. Montañita's party scene - if that's your thing - is an easy (and cheap) cab ride away. Personally, we preferred the more peaceful vibe on the beach in Olón, where a row of beachfront restaurants serve up delicious fresh seafood and cold beers at unbelievably affordable prices. Don't miss the ceviche de ostra sold from the little cart - it seriously doesn't get any fresher. One of the highlights of the trip was watching local fisherman pull up their catch on the beach while the enormous frigates and pelicans swooped and dove to get their fill of fish. Amazing! But much more amazing than the house and it's incredible location are the people you will meet at Casa de Curia. Don Julio was incredibly helpful to us and I am so glad to have met him. He truly went above and beyond for us, especially when my daughter had a little surfing accident and split her lip. I was so worried that she might need stitches, but Don Julio knew just who to call (it seems he knows everyone and everyone knows him) and she got treatment within half an hour. I cannot thank him enough for his kindness. I would simply add that you can book this house with confidence, knowing that you will be in excellent hands during your stay. We will definitely be back. Thank you Bernardo and Don Julio."

Colombia Travel Tips

Attractions and Activities near Colombia Vacation Rentals

There are many cultural attractions, museums, historic buildings and cultural festivals that make Columbia an attractive destination to visit. Because of its location, Columbia has had many cultural influences, including Indian, Spanish and African influences. This is evident as you explore the many historic sites of the area.

Columbia is considered by many to be an adventure mecca. There is whitewater rafting, jungle trekking, horseback riding, and a variety of extreme sports available. The Pacific coastline is a favorite place for whale watching. Visitors can experience nature and wildlife tours in the Amazon jungle with experienced guides. The beaches are places where you can relax and simply enjoy the beautiful natural surroundings as you soak up the sun.

Colombia Travel Tips

For many years, travelers were warned of visiting Colombia because of the political factions that were regarded as dangerous. In the past decade though, the government has taken strong measures to improve security in order to attract more foreign tourists. Tourist numbers have increases significantly and many travel magazines rate Columbia as top travel destination because of the diverse landscapes and many natural and cultural attractions. It is nevertheless still a destination where you need to be street smart. Don’t leave baggage unattended and don’t walk around the city on your own at night. Take a taxi and have a map or guide book with you so you know where you are going. Don’t display expensive jewelry or cameras when you are walking around. On the plus side, you will be able to find colorful souvenirs to take home and be able to sample what is arguably the world’s best coffee. No doubt you will want to take some home with you but be aware of customs allowances.

Finding Your Way to Colombia Vacation Apartments

The primary airport in Colombia is the El Dorado International Airport in Bogota. The airport is a relatively modern structure and hosts a number of local, regional and international airlines. There are relatively frequent commercial flights to North America. The closest U.S. city is Miami which is a three- to four-hour flight away. New York City is four to five hours away by plane and Los Angeles is eight to nine hours away by plane. For travelers from Europe, there are regularly scheduled commercial flights from both Paris and Madrid. People traveling from other parts of the world can route via any of these hubs or major cities in South America, such as Sao Paolo or Buenos Aires. El Dorado’s central location in the region makes it one of the busiest airports in South America in terms of transporting both passengers and cargo. If you are traveling to another destination in Colombia, it is best to fly. While there are good road links, traveling times can be long because of the many mountain passes that need to be navigated.

Cartagena Vacation Rentals in Colombia

Cartagena is one of Colombia’s most popular tourist destinations. It has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site because of its strong cultural traditions, beautiful beaches and diverse range of historic architecture. If you enjoy photography and old architecture, you will enjoy the many different architectural styles exhibited in Cartagena. The buildings make excellent photo subjects. It is a city where there is plenty to see and do but you can just as easily spend your days relaxing on the beach and simply watching the passing crowds.
