When traveling to Peru, it is a good idea to decide what you really want to see and plan your travels around that. Lima is Peru's cultural center and home to some fantastic museums. To get to Machu Pichu, Peru's most famous landmark, you need to fly to Cuzco. From there, you can embark on a multi-day trek up to Machu Pichu or you can take a day trip up there by bus. It is advisable to book an early morning tour as by midday the site is often swarming with tourists which in a way spoils the ambiance of this mountain sanctuary. To experience the Amazon jungle, take a flight to Iquitos. From there, you can embark on a jungle-trekking excursion. There are also many rivers in Peru that offer excellent whitewater rafting.

Peru has a wealth of attractions that can capture the interest of almost every traveler. Peru is most famous for its Inca ruins, in particular Machu Pichu. Each year thousands of tourists venture from Cuzco to visit the ancient site. The Andes provide excellent trekking opportunities and in recent years, many mountain biking tours have started which traverse the mountain regions. Mountaineers are attracted to the challenging peaks. Nature enthusiasts can enjoy the jungles of the northern regions. Peru also has some beautiful beaches that attract sun lovers from around the globe.

Getting to Peru Beach Houses

The main airport in Peru is the Jorge Chavez International Airport which is located in Lima, the country's capital city. The airport is the primary inbound and outbound hub for Peru and provides domestic links to other cities such as Cuzco, Iquitos, Pucallpa and Ariquipa in the south. There are frequent international flights to Lima from most major cities in North, South and Central America. There are also direct flights that operate from London and Amsterdam. If you cannot find a direct flight to Lima, you may consider a flight routing that takes you via one of the other South American travel hubs such as Sao Paolo or Caracus. Once in Peru, it's best to fly to your domestic destination. Road transfers can be lengthy and have many delays. There are some regional trains but they are not really suited for tourists. In the cities, you can get around using the local taxi services. Private cabs tend to be more reliable than the public yellow cabs. Taxis are not metered and it is advisable to negotiate the fare before departing.

Best Time of Year to Visit Peru

Peru has a varied landscape, ranging from the high Andes in the south and central regions to the tropical rainforests of the Amazon basin in the northeast. The climate is equally varied and the time of year that you choose to travel will depend largely on your interests and the activities you want to participate in. If you plan to visit the beaches around Lima or the historic sites of Machu Pichu, the summer months are the best time of year to visit. If you plan on doing a trekking excursion, most run throughout the year in the lower altitudes. Alpine treks tend to favor the colder winter months when the peaks are more stable. The jungle regions can be visited from May to November. From December to April, heavy rains are experienced which makes getting around difficult.
