  • A Perfect Getaway!

"There is something about Dauphin Island that just takes care of the stress. As soon as you start on the bridge, you can feel it going away. This beach house added to the relaxing environment- it is located in an ideal position- you have a water view, and you can access anything easily. The owners think of everything for your comfort- the kitchen was fantastic, and the nearby beach (we drove, but you could walk) was beautiful. Communication with owners was great, and we particularly enjoyed sitting on the swing under the house looking at the water during sunset. Would highly recommend for a girl's trip, family group, or just a couple looking to enjoy Dauphin Island beauty."

  • Spacious

"My family stayed in this home, 16 people in all. Plenty of room for all. Comfortable beds, plenty of bath towels and linens. Well stocked kitchen, only thing lacking really, was there were no kitchen towels. Lots of coffee mugs, but not enough drinking glasses. We used solo cups, paper plates and plastic flatware. Who wants to do dishes on vacation? Older home, definitely showing its age. Stained carpet and tiles lifting in places. Nice cold air conditioning, even upstairs. When we arrived for check in at 4, the cleaners will still at the house and we weren't able to check in until 4:30. The elevator was not working and we had to carry a weeks worth of stuff for 16 people up 3 flights of stairs. We called the real estate company on Monday and she talked us through how to operate the elevator, after that, no more issues. The trash can in the kitchen is in no way big enough to accommodate the amount of people the house is capable of. We had to empty it at least 3-4 times a day and there was only 1 trash can outside to put it in. Needless to say, it filled up very quickly and we had to contact the real estate company to get a special trash pickup. The views are great for sunsets. The walk to the beach however, brutal! You can either walk through the sand and over the sand dunes, which is a feat when you're carrying everything needed for a day at the beach, or drive to the pier and walk across that and then through all the sand. It was such a chore that by the 2nd day, no one wanted to go to the beach again. It wasn't until the last day that we decided to try the west end beach and that is so much better! From parking lot to water, it was maybe 50 ft. Highly recommend the west end beach, even if it costs more. With the cost of this rental, we were a bit disappointed with the condition of the home. Scuff marks on the walls, broken light switch plates, dead bugs in the light fixtures, stained carpet and couches, lifting tiles in the kitchen, burn marks on the wall behind the stove. Nice hammock on the back porch with rocking chairs to sit in. I would recommend this home to large groups, just wish the price reflected the condition of the home and the distance to the beach. Fairly nice walk to the lagoon, but it smelled like sewage and there was trash and dead fish on the shore. The island doesn't have a whole lot to offer, other than an overpriced general store and a few souvenir shops. Had lunch at a local restaurant, and it was ok."

  • Outstanding Family Get-a-way

"We had such a fabulous time staying at the "Porches" on Dauphin Island. It was the perfect venue for our family which includes 3 couples and 2 babies. There were a ton of toys, water paraphernalia, and everything that you can think of to make us feel comfortable. I especially liked all the towels and the fact that beach towels were provided. We were flying in so dragging all this "stuff" with us can be a pain, but the house included everything. It was such a pleasure to spend quality time with our children in this hectic world that we live in. There's only peace and quiet on this island and plenty of it, with an outstanding beach. I can't really say enough about the property as my husband and I have travelled extensively and have rented houses on several occasions but I was in awe at how it was outfitted, especially the kitchen--every tool that you can possibly use, and plenty of dishes and flatware. The porches themselves were awesome. We especially like the screened-in porch that allowed to have the babies out there without constantly fearful that they would fall between the railings. The owners were most accommodating, and very helpful in finding and returning to us something that we inadvertently left behind. I'm sure that we will be returning and I will not hesitate in recommending this property. Enjoy."
