  • Beautiful view, dock, and house!

"We had a large family reunion of several of my grown children and their children (aged 16 months to 11 years). Everyone loved it! Perfect view of the lake from the living room and the wrap-around deck on the house. Great boat dock for jumping, diving, and swimming in a quiet spot. Good steps from the house to the dock. Nicely appointed, new-looking house with wifi! My youngest son wants to come back next year and bring a boat from Lafayette, LA! I'm having serious withdrawal from the pleasure of swiimming every day in wonderful lake water."

  • Our Week at Kate's Place

"We were going to Fairhope to look for a house, and needed some place to stay while we looked. I rented this house from vrbo as I have had three rentals myself listed on this site. The house is just off Scenic Hwy 98 which is a beautiful drive along Mobile Bay. The owner of the property, Mike, is very nice and accommodating. He makes a good "inn keeper". The grounds are spectacular, mature oaks and magnolias trees, flowering shrubs, etc. The house is large enough for a big group, 4 bedrooms, 3 baths. The short walk down past Mike's house to the pier takes just couple minutes and the owner allows his guests to use the pier and his crab traps. We caught cat fish, croaker and blue crab. This property is pretty much for adults and is not set up for persons with disabilities due to all the stairs. The kitchen has what you need. Also washer/dryer are a plus. Plenty of parking out the back door-also a patio with table/chairs for 4. Zoned Heat/AC was nice (thermostat for each floor). House is clean, grounds are neat. Damage deposit was refunded promptly. On the other side, we felt the beds (we tried them all), were a bit hard and squeaky. Bathrooms are tiny but serviceable. We could have used a second set of towels so we wouldn't have to wash just two towels in that large washer. There were console tables and corner tables and odd chests sitting around but we didn't find a chest of drawers or dresser in any bedroom for your clothes. Updated paint colors and updated furniture would make the whole place seem more attractive with a "beachy" feel. Certainly updated look would fit right in with the house and many of the other rentals along Scenic 98. We had a bad storm on Sat. afternoon and were without electricity for hours. There was one little flashlight over the dryer. I suggest the handheld lanterns from HD or Lowe's for each floor so guests can see. We used our cell phones to locate a restaurant with electricity and went there for couple hours till power came back. Kate's Place is probably 10 min. from downtown Fairhope. There are two good restaurants just down Scenic Hwy 98. Biloxi is about 1 1/2 hours. Mobile, Gulf Shores, Orange Beach, Weeks Bay, etc. are all close by. This is a handy spot from which to see south Alabama."
